I was with my father at the end. He said "I'm tired of being tired". And the realization that the end was near brought a sense of peace to him. He was calm in the knowledge of where he was going. I miss him, but I know he isn't tired anymore. So I'm happy with that.

As my dad started to go into a coma with lung cancer in the ICU I was speaking to the doctor I looked back and thought my dad was in his coma...we knew it was close to the end As I looked at him in the bed his hand came up slowly towards me and he waved goodbye...he died 2 hrs later.

Death is the doorway to the “next place.” Susan knows that. And she knows who he is. She accepts him. Listen to their choice of words, look at the expressions on their faces. Susan knows and Joe comes to realize that she knows. And Joe knows why he was created, to help people to reach the “next place.” It took Joe’s falling in love with Susan for him to understand.

After a seeming long slow trip and a wait with a bunch of other "souls" I was told "not yet" and then suddenly I'm on a towel soaking wet and crying. Amazing feeling the whole time. Hard to describe. Like petting a happy puppy. 50+ years ago. I like it here too despite the pain, but I'm also looking forward to "yet".

It's a job that needs to be done. He is fulfilling the purpose that the Lord made him for. This film is a loose remake of DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY from 1934, with Fredric March as the angel of death. He played the role in a very similar way to what Mr Pitt has done here.

He showed her the next place, she smiled, ever so blissfully. He said "soon". This is an almost magical scene. Both actors brilliant. The background score & carefully timed piano notes just lift the whole movie up, like a wave carrying a surfer. Pitt is vastly underrated, his intense acting & wide range of genres - action, historical epics, drama, crime thrillers, fantasy movies is hard to match. I feel sometimes his looks get in the way, shadowing his talent. His eyes do a lot of the acting.

I was left speechless. This scene is remarkable, watching Brad Pitt reminds me how incredible of an actor he is. I love how Death talks to her in the accent she's familiar with, it shows off Brad's range as an actor and it just feels so real as odd as that sounds. If Death were a real person, it seems like he would change his speech to match those around him as a way of comforting those who are about to die.

Every now and then folks who are dying give us a glimpse of the other side as they pass , Allen Conway in Jasper TN, had died during routine surgery, woke up on life support with a tracheotomy , he asked them to remove it "you'll die" the nurse said , he motioned to remove it, after they explained to the family in front of him , he still wanted it removed, his brother asked him "have you seen mom and dad" he shook his head yes, they removed it, he cleared his throat and said I sure do love y'all, and died

I refused to see this movie when it first came out, my father’s death only three weeks prior still fresh in my mind. It hit too close to home and I wasn’t ready to let go. Now, almost 25 years later, I truly understand and appreciate this as a cinematic masterpiece. Both Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins and Claire Forlani work together seamlessly in an almost waltz of emotion. The music is timeless and the storyline not only now soothes my soul, but assures me that my father is in a beautiful, happy place. Yes, I still cry at the end, but it is my hope that he had a guide such as Joe Black to help him cross from Earth to Heaven.

Pain is part of the journey. It seems harsh, but you're only given what you can handle. Some can handle a lot, it's meant to teach the living. The only place to feel it is in a physical form. The Twilight Zone episode with Robert Redford playing Death is nicely done too. For anyone who hasn't seen it,an elderly lady tries to keep people away,fearful "he" (meaning death) might come in. She takes in an injured policeman, not realizing he is death. A great episode.

This movie, after it ended and I saw it was three hours, my brain was like what?! It was the most immersing three hours I've ever spent in a movie at home. It's really not even talked about much either. A three hour movie before movies that were even 2.5 hrs became common. This movie is also where Claire Forlani became my favorite actress. And the sound track!!! Oh the sound track! Just perfect.

One of the most perfect scenes in any movie- the score for this whole movie is beautiful, but in this scene- the two actors play their parts delicately and incredibly, you are drawn into Deaths compassion, to the suffering of those with terminal illness. It’s beautiful and makes tears well up every time I see it.

One thing I can say as a linguist i that Brad Pitt definitely had the ear for accents and pronunciations. He did so well in this movie as well as those concerning the Irish, the Scottish, and the English lowland peoples. He's very good at it, I've yet to see another actor from America do as well with these types of accents as he does. IT's very impressive because it's not at all easy to do, and you not only have to have an ear for it, you have to learn how to use your tongue properly in order to make these pronunciations the correct way.

Nah maaate! Was and is a great movie. Not seen for a while, but is based on an old man of money who's lost his eye for whats truly important I.e those close to him... and when faced with the reality of death, he is given the opportunity to look at the outcomes of his actions and given the chance to have sight for all the important things he didn't see. The relationship between Death and his daughter has probably been lost on me a bit but that part hasn't.

I have watched this movie so many times, and have the DVD, which I purchased as soon as it became available, after seeing this film in a theatre. The entire movie is masterpiece of modern cinema, and showed Brad Pitt in yet another emotional movie, after 'Legends of the Fall', 'Seven', '7 Years in Tibet' and then 'Meet Joe Black'. These were the good years of cinema such as the movie 'Gattaca', another movie filled with such emotion...and memories for those of us who remember the release. When times are bad, we should ALL, remember the near ending of the film, as well as the actual ending. Both are so very poignant.

If I remember correctly, when this movie was being advertised there was a scene in the trailer in which Anthony Hopkins confronts Brad Pitt as Death and tells him to stay away from his daughter. Death asks, "Are you threatening me?" Hopkins answers, "I certainly hope so." It hooked me immediately. A parent standing up to and threatening Death in fierce defence of his child.

The thought female patient was a very good actor. The music was horrendous. I really hated the music. And it detracted from the action. It made me want to go away so that I would not be forced to listen to it. Acting aloof and detached doesn't seem to me to be a very challenging acting job to do. Good script though. Brad says "she's in a great deal of pain" and the nurse says yes, and then changes the subject. No morphine for you old lady? Our lord suffered for us so you shouldn't mind suffering for him. That's the way our medical system thinks.

The scene that gets me is when Sir Anthony is saying subtle goodbyes to his daughters. He tries to apologize for favoring the daughter like himself and the other sister says, "It's okay that I wasn't your favorite, because you were always mine." The way she delivers that line, and his reaction to it! I only hope to have that sort of healing resolution when my time comes! ❤

This movie my friends, its one of those movies that you just start it once a year for the heck of it and the next thing you know you're crying or laughing or contemplating your life and on and on and then its 3 hours later and you're drained emotionally. Its a rare gem that somehow everybody knows about but no one talks about . How can a movie make you have empathy for "DEATH". There are many movies i love, i think about them, find them and turn them on and soon i start skipping to the good parts and its over in 20mins and i got my fix. But this movie, you just never fast forward a second bc you can learn something new each time you watch it.
