He treats trees that have oak wilt (a fungus). Check out texasoakwilt.org. Trees people want to save are injected with a fungicide and the trencher is used to cut the roots to stop the spread from tree to tree through the root system.

If this guy lived frugally for ~5 years, he could save up $5 million and live comfortably off $200k/yr but he wants immediate gratification, thus only has a net worth of $1.4 million instead of much much more.
