Of course it's harder to make the US team, but once on it's a better chance of a gold medal is what I'm saying. Good for her, she followed her dreams and achieved her goal only at the expense of the present and future development of the national team in the country she was born in where she first learned the game and gave her every opportunity to succeed. So good for her for putting herself before her country. She could've been a hero to every Canadian girl and now the most hated.

@ponyvillalobos I think you are forgetting the fact that the women's team is without a doubt 100x closer together than the men's team. Men play in clubs all around the world for most of the season, then have a camp for a week or so to play national games and go back to their clubs. There's probably few Men's teammates that actually have great friendships like some on the women's team (Lindsey and Rapinoe as well) So stop making a big deal out of something that they clearly had fun doing!

Well for one you're coming at it from an American perspective. 400 million pop to 35 million pop. When someone good leaves the Canadian system they're a hell of a lot harder to replace. How does our national program ever improve if every person aspires to play for the USA? Are you guy's entitled to every player around the world? Who do you compete with when you have everyone? What about the classless Canadians who booed her when she got called to the field and whenever she had possession of the ball? That probably only fuelled her further. As a Canadian who witnessed the match I applauded when she scored. I think you're also being ridiculous, because unlike what you seem to think, playing at the National entails a number of personal and professional decisions, it's not just Patriotism. (See also te Boateng brothers... one plays for Ghana the other for Germany).

I will add that yes it is disappointing to have such talent leave the country for greener pastures, and hopefully that'll change in the future as funding becomes better and courting players becomes more tempting in Canada, but you seldom ever see anyone complain about talent in the entertainment industry for example. Some Athletes dream of representing their Nation. Some dream to reach the top plain and simple. You're forgetting in these sports, it is a job, a profession (vs amateur status!)
