The implication is that he is reacting to Chet saying "good", meaning he realizes that Chet also remembers. This means that he realizes Chet chooses to be closed off and not "friends" in the same way Will wishes to be. The reasons are up for interpretation and I think potentially have a lot to say about our relationship to alcohol and its place in our culture and why people go to bars in the first place .

I lost a great friend of mine about a year and a half ago. He was an old soul and smart as hell- but had some demons. We had many a blackout night like this in college reading poetry talking philosophy and having great times. This video brings me back- were we living a life that was destined to fade into oblivion? Looking back- it’s hard to tell where reality ended and drunkenness began. But I know it was real. Our friendship was real. Everything fades into memory eventually- but people live through those still here that remember them. RIP my friend- we’ll meet again, in this world or the next
