This was such an awesome insight! As a freelance live sound engineer looking to get on the road it was great to hear someone else's experience.

I don't know about $20 but I definitely buy Gary a pint when I see him at the next MW gig.

My day job is occupational psychology so I can relate to the need to recruit people on the basis of what they can do rather than what they look like or what tattoos they have. Often companies focus more on the personality or skills exclusively rather than both of them. I design recruitment processes for some big companies across the world including designing psychometric tests.

Sounds interesting mate. In music you'd have a hard job finding someone without tattoos or piercings, they're a rare breed these days! Haha. Colour, creed, beliefs, it doesn't matter in our book. If you can do the job and are a decent person, that's all we ask for.

i used to do the sound at gigs of my dad's cover band, also drove myself crazy with trying to get "that sound" in every corner of the venue, hand signalling the band member to adjust their volume because they didnt have a simple mixer 😂 great fun, but what a mess!

Haha yeah, often the band don't help themselves.. always slyly creeping up the amp volume. I never do that of course... 😉
