Wow she really is a small B&G! At first I thought she was a baby until I saw her face feathers and eyes. Having a plan for one’s bird should something happen to it’s owner is an absolute must! People forget how long these birds live and how the owners lifestyle changes. I used to be the adoption chairman for a large parrot club and have seen tragic situations because the owner never planned ahead. Emma has grown up so fast. She’s a cutie🥰

She is tiny! She was practically weightless and sat on my shoulder so easily. I’m not a small person but Cookie struggles bc he’s so big. I’ve seen Jamie (BirdTricks) talk to a lot of people who received a rehomed parrot from a family loss. We believe this is how Cookie also was moved out, but I’m not 100% they were being honest. And thanks lol Emma is growing like a weed!

Your videos are always a pleasure to watch ❤️ I feel like you're one of those people that are destined to have birds, some people just buy them to show them off and treat them as decorations instead of living beings but you seem to have a connection with them, it's amazing to watch

😭 aww that’s one of the nicest things anyone’s ever said to me! Thank you so much for the kind words. I truly love all animals, horses first actually. Since having horses isn’t really possible for me, birds seem to be a really great alternative for engaging and challenging me!

What a gorgeous B&G macaw! I’m also glad to hear she’s upgrading her diet. What part of South Carolina? I live about 20miles away from Charleston. 😃

Strangely enough I was thinking of naming my parrot Oliver if I ever got one. Either that or Loui, if its a boy that is.

@best flocking Friends - GIRL, OK, I have 2 small kids and my heart wants a b&g macaw.. (yes I have bird experience).. BUT, how do you manage? Are you ever worried with your young children and bigger birds? How do you ever let your guard down? The forums only tell horror stories and it makes me nervous..

It’s a LOT!! I struggle to separate time for my birds from my kiddo, and now that they’re familiar with her the Suns land on her from time to time which scares her. I’m very aware of things like doors being slammed being an issue especially for sam who bolts back and forth. I just make a diligent effort to be aware and consistent with her and the behavior around the birds etc. One day at a time!

Crazy how they will bond with one person and really NOT like someone else! I’ve seen them come in between a married couple! It’s you or the bird hun! Lol. They are cool but WAY too nervous for me. I don’t think I would have the patience to handle all the fear. I could see things going bad really fast. Ya can’t train em like a dog! They perfect for a housewife or someone who works from home but from what I hear and read you need to spend like 6 hrs a day with them if you want a well socialized bird that isn’t a complete basket case.

They really don’t require that much attention. I maybe spend a total of an hour a day interacting with my birds. Sam, I can’t say I do much with him at all. My birds aren’t mean and RARELY ever bite me or my husband. Hormones are a major factor in aggressive behavior; and personally they’re a bit easier to train than a dog but no you cannot train them the same way. Once you learn to read their body language and habits you’ll see the aggressive behavior coming.
