I'd like to offer a different perspective. I grew up in church. Went 1-2 times a week minimum. My older sister (by 10 years) alienated herself from all her friends and family after, ironically, having a stroke. She needed her religion to explain her body failing. I was 18 and still very religious. Her strict rules and Bible spitting became overwhelming to have a regular conversation. Something as simple as deciding where and eventually going out to eat became difficult. I don't want to negate your feelings, but I wanted to say I understood his verbiage.
