As a guy that saw this happen in real time, I have to agree with you. Back in 1992 or 1991, Shaq showed the world who he was against my Arizona Wildcats. This guy was gonna dominate forever we thought. Then seeing 2002 Shaq just made me sad. This guy should have been incredible for more years but once he got the rings, he just coasted. He should have retired a Laker rather than hoping some team would pick him up year end year out.

Nah! Shaq was exceptional, there is absolutely no doubt about it, but he would never be as dominant as the one center, the true GOAT which is Wilt the Stilt. If you would ever have seen him play, would ever have experienced what this man did, then there couldnt be this video. Wilt Chamberlain dominated the league like no one ever did and no one ever will. Of course you could bring some crappy Era-Argument or his only two Championships, but believe me, that wont do it. The guy could jump as high as anyone ever, ran faster than NFL runningbacks, once even led the league in Assists - and all that on Top of unseen Scoring abilities, unseen Rebound Abilities, unseen Blocking Abilities and Mind Blowing records(100 Points in a game, 55 rebounds in a game, 26 Blocks in a game, 50.4 ppg over a whole season, more than 48 minutes per game over a season due to overtimes, over 22 rebounds average over a whole fuckin season and so on). I mean, they changed several rules because of his domination! If that guy would have had the Team that Bill Russell had around him, he would have crushed the league, no doubt.

Hennything is possible yeah like leading the league in rebounds 3 times when this one guy kareem was putting up his best seasons.....yey wilt was 11 years older....
@mauricedavis17406 жыл бұрын
the thing that hurts wilt is his playoff performances. for whatever reason he wasn't as dominant in the playoffs as he was in the regular season, and that's putting winning or losing aside because it is a team game. Shaq dominated in the finals for three years in a row when it mattered the most, that's something Wilt could never do..
@SonnyK2485 жыл бұрын
It's hard to put Wilt over Russell as Bill had his number almost every time they played each other. Yes Wilt had the stats but they were very different centres. and Russell's team would almost always beat Wilts in spite of Wilt playing on a Lakers team with Elgin Baylor and Jerry West.
@sonofrobert5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. He would have won 20 titles with the Celtics. Most amazing athlete of 20th century. A real Superman
@JonnyLin76 жыл бұрын
Shaq in his prime was probably the best at his peak. Nobody could stop Shaq. Wild was similar in dominance, but Shaq was much heavier, and for guy 7 foot 1 and well over 300lbs in his prime his max vertical jump was 36 inches, which for context is only an inch and a half below recent dunk contest champion Terrance Ross. Underrated about Shaq is he had moves and much better coordination then pure athletic centers like Dwight. His baby hook was unstoppable. He moved incredibly well for his size and had a handle for a big man too. Players have testified in practice he had an incredible handle that we didn't really get to see in games as much.
@TheDudeAbides19986 жыл бұрын

11:54 It's actually scientifically proven that free throw shots are harder for big men. It has to do with the angle and arch etc. That doesn't mean there will be NO big men that shoot well from the free throw line. So your argument against that is a straw man.

Wilt was a better free throw shooter when he was younger. Maybe he got too strong and his huge hands may have caused trouble for him.

It's shocking how underrated Shaquille O'Neal has become. When I tell people that Shaq for a time was the best player I'd ever seen, they act like I said John Koncak or something. Which is funny because in the early 2000s relatively few would have had an issue it. There was even a poll around that time among NBA players and coaches about who was better between Shaq and Michael Jordan and most of them actually picked Shaq. But for some reason perception of Shaq has fallen off a cliff.
@spine--damaged Жыл бұрын
Very late reply but I think the obvious reason is that the overall perception of Shaq is that he didn't work as hard as he could to be the best player he could've been. He recognizes that. That alone is obviously going to take its toll on Shaq's reputation and legacy, as it should.

Paul Popoola it was, shaq and kobe could have won 6-8 titles had shaq took his health seriously. Kobe was just entering his prime so shaq can take less of a workload as he aged, but if he took care of himself he could’ve been somewhat a lesser version of his prime years and still be effective.

The league will never allow another Shaq! He’s the sole reason why they play zone in the nba now.
@RRRRRRRRR337 жыл бұрын
The league was always plagued by superstars taking advantage of 1v1 matchups. Shaq didn't had the same appeal of Jordan or Magic, that's why they removed this abomination for good. Zones are part of the sport, the US took too long to adapt it.
@SuperJoobers7 жыл бұрын
Rafael Teles bro the U.S. didn’t take to long to adapt. We invinted b-ball and the zone defense. Bro they were playing man to man defense over seas as well until the dream made fool out of any team that steped on the court with them. That’s why they started using it because they didn’t have the athletic ability to contain anyone 1 v1. And the nba didn’t adapt to it, Shaq left them no choice triple teaming him wasn’t even working.
@RRRRRRRRR337 жыл бұрын
Do you really think you know the FIBA level? Have you read my name? lol I definitely know international basketball better than you (which is not a great thing at all, the FIBA level is ridiculous). That being said, zones were fully adapted in Europe from a long time, even before Shaq was even drafted. The NBA stole some concepts from FIBA (and vice-versa), but in a very subtle way. Zones is a big change, so the "creators" didn't want something as drastic as this, they already removed it once, why bring it back? Shaq of course took advantage of the anti-zone rules, but he dominated just as much as Jordan, Olajuwon, Magic and Barkley posting up people for 15 seconds, etc.. it was a transition period, the NBA needed to evolve after so many years of boring dynasties and no golden boy to take advantage. Shaq didn't forced any rule changes because of his own offensive ability, in fact, rules changed because people were taking advantage of his horrid FT shooting. And lastly, basketball was created by a canadian, this is common knowledge... and a usual joke. It's like when people think that soccer was created by us.

Putting on 40 pounds of mass when he was with the Lakers was the biggest mistake there was no need for that. At 325 pounds before he was still way bigger than the opposition as it was and he could run the floor much better. Eventually all that weight he put on most likely with steroids turned him into a fat bloated mess if hed a kept his weight down his entire career his body of work would be much more impressive than it is. He also got a lil too comfortable after he won his ring he started to miss more and more games and his conditioning went down hill. The fact he didnt lead the league in rebounding scoring and even won dpoy at least 5 times is a major underachievement on his part.
@RRRRRRRRR337 жыл бұрын
To lead the league in scoring at least 5 times is a fair statement. But rebounding and dpoy.. I don't know. Not even Olajuwon was able to won 5 DPOYs, or even a specialist like Ben Wallace could get close to that. Rebounding it's almost fair, but Shaq shared space with prime Garnett, Duncan, etc.. Rodman when he was younger. Even if he was committed, I don't think he could outpace a freak like Garnett, no freaking way

Peak Shaq 2000-2002 was the goat. Now he wasn’t the goat for a full career. However, his peak was beyond anything outside of maybe Jordan, Wilt, Kareem, and Lebron and I would still probably take Shaq’s peak. He made the 2001 def. player of the year Mutumbo look helpless while Shaq shit all over him. Jordan went up against a def. player of the year in 96 in G Payton and Payton actually held Jordan below his averages. Peak Shaq was also a top 3 defensive presence and rebounder in the game, and an elite passer for his position. I don’t think I personally have seen one player warp defenses and control a game like peak Shaq was. Not even Jordan.

He should've stayed dominant for a much longer time. Instead he just bounced around league in the second half of his career.

I've always felt like Allen iverson didn't reach his full potential either because of his lack of personal ambition to do better. Iverson had the talent, just not the drive to be the greatest.

In my opinion Wilt Chamberlain was always better than Shaq, great video though, try to watch WiltChamberlainarchive on youtube maybe you will change your mind.
@sonofrobert5 жыл бұрын
I agree. I have watched alot of video. Wilt is the goat of centers. I just learned that Wilt was size 13 feet. This explains some of his incredible speed and agility. Shaq was size 22. Wilt, Kareem, Hakeem, Shaq ranking. Imagine if Wilt had played for the Celtics. They would have won 20 championships!
@angela-onesroman88737 жыл бұрын
Shaq's impact on the teams he played for was the number 1 reason they succeeded as well as they did, his unstoppable presence was second to none. The "G.O.A.T", more than debatable as far as the center position. Of all time, he can be mentioned in the same sentence with anyone. One thing is for sure, as far as dominance there was no one better.

i agree with you and you're probably right. and even shaq admitted in interviews. but he also said that he is satisfied with the career he had and that he wanted to have fun while he was in nba and he surely did that. so i guess it's all good.

Sorry, but Shaq couldn't carry a team by himself. He needed Kobe who was considered on Shaq's level. That's why when they got rid of Shaq from the Lakers Kobe still won championships. When Jordan left the Bulls for the first time they couldn't buy a championship until he came back. Shaq will never be the GOAT.

Great Videos TPK, I have an idea for a great and controversial video for you My argument is that Shaq was so dominant during the Lakers 3peat that, If you replaced Kobe with any other comparable player from the era...that Shaq would have still lead the Lakers to Championships Example players : Sprewell, Carter, Pierce, Jones, T-Mac, Allen, Finley, Stackhouse or Houston Those players are just off the top of my head Would be a great and controversial 'what if' type of video Kobe is a Legend no doubt but just how much of a legend would he have been if he didn't begin where he began
@itsjamie56 жыл бұрын
I personaly disagree with a lot opf thing you said " ego" for one shaq didn't let his ego get in the way ( in my opinion) there are accounts of him staying in the gym hours past his other team mates practicing free throws that's just one eg. overall though I enjoyed this video keep pumping out more content like this :)

Exactly why I say he's slightly disappointing...he was SO SKILLED...but his work ethic could've been SO MUCH BETTER...if he remained his Orlando weight...and put in the work...he would be the GOAT with NO DEBATE, surpassing MJ. He's still Top 5 though.

Great vidro. I just can't put a basketball player with no midrange game in the goat category. Imo you have to be at least adequate in every phase of the game.
@Sizdothyx6 жыл бұрын
I agree. With all my heart I do. This is the man who SHOULD have dethroned Jordan. In terms of pure, raw, unadulterated talent, he and Wilt are the two biggest mounds of it that the league has ever or probably will see. Unfortunately, BECAUSE he had such a large pool to draw from, he wasn't pushed to his limits. Phil Jackson himself has said that he wished he could get more consistency or, failing that, COMMITMENT from Shaq, but Shaq was more obsessed with his brand than he was with his game. Kazaam, his Reebok endorsements, a rap career. Why do you think Kobe was so angry with Shaq all the time? Kobe didn't even have a quarter of Shaq's talent. Yet, Kobe realized his shortcomings and obsessively worked on his game. I don't think that there's anyone in the NBA who could match Kobe for his bull-headedness and sheer workload. Coming into the league, he was crossed over left and right by everyone and realized just how much he had to push himself to break that barrier. Give me Kobe's hard work hours and Shaq's raw talent with a sprinkle of Magic's magnetic personality ... man, perfect player.

just imagine how much more dominant shaq could’ve been with a shooting ability. Though i do realize he was in a bike accident which badly hurt his wrist, leading him be a very stiff shooter, it’d still would’ve been crazy to see
@walterweir69916 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree with you I watched him since his freshman year at LSU He was a An athletic monster back then everyone new he was gonna be great he even got robbed An should’ve been on the dream team he could’ve made friends with Ewing an Robinson early an learn how to really be a pro Too bad his ego became to big for him

72-1 in 4 years in the high school level. Even at the high school level thats just crazy stats in my opinion. That coach waa abso-friggin-lutely genius with his "get the ball to Shaq" strategy. Absolute genius!!! 😅💯👌🏽🏀🏆🏆🏆🏆

Shaq would have easily been the goat if it weren't for a few obstacles in his career. After his 3 peat in the lakers, he was very injury prone and it led to a gradual decline in his game. His feud with kobe prevented them from being the greatest dynasty in NBA history. If he improved his career free throw percentage to 70% or more, he would easily avg around 35-40 points a game since no one in the league could guard him
@charlescooks93606 жыл бұрын

i think people are selling shaq short when they talk about this. he had 11 years of compete dominance with orando and la, probably should've been mvp his 1st year in miami, and still averaged 20 and 9 the year he won the title with them. that's 13 amazing years. if you look at the other dominant centers, most of them didn't stay that good for that long. wilt had 11 dominant years, hakeem and moses had 12, russell was never dominant on offense and his whole career was only 12 years...dwight had like 7 (being generous), so kareem was really the only one to stay at that level longer than shaq
@coltonw86867 жыл бұрын
Reason he was being handled in the post too was because they allowed the use of the forearm in post area. In 1997 however they took that away. Thats why I say him putting on all that weight wasnt the solution. That was just great defense on Dennis Rodmans part and Hakeem who are two of the greatest defenders ever they were able to tame the beast. With this elimination of forearm rule though it made it essentially impossible to guard him man to man. Ben Wallace still did a great job but hed a done even better if he was allowed to be more physical in post like Hakeem and Rodman were able. With that rule change all they could do was foul him and play that game.
