Miles I mean it can be due to genetic inheritance, maybe both his parents carried alleles of phenotypes that involved stronger brain capability, memory or reactivity, or it could be due to his environment, like his mother actually did try really hard with teaching these kids, or something on tv or overheard conversations triggered their interest in academics, it may be something phylogenic, completely genetic, environmental or even a mutation but usually we like to refer to it as a gift, and yes that can also just be the answer, sometimes the simplest answers to the biggest questions and the correct ones.

@@TheohybridI honestly believe this phenomenon is just a kids willingness and eagerness to learn, I can remember understanding college level text book and lectures but and I learn "hard" skills/topics really fast, I didn't just push through which resulted me to not care enough. Many people are a lot, A LOT smarter than they think. And to the comments, yes, you can teach a kid calculus if you start from the basics, idk about anyone else but if I had the parents, I would have been one of this "prodigies" why? Because I was simply interested in the "bigger stuff" and already grasped my level of learning.

That boy actually makes that statement void. there are a lot of different factors that go into development when a baby is growing as a fetus. If we break it down by race we already see that certain races are definitely more intelligent on average than others. White Europeans are smack dab in the middle certain tribes in Africa are on the low end of the spectrum and the Eastern Asians (Japanese) and certain Jews on the high end. of course this is the average and there are exceptions and different factors when it comes to individuals.

Me too but at 15 I was also learning all the guitar parts on Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, The Yes Album, Aqualung, Machine Head and Dreamboat Annie while trying to copy Roy Clark's playing on Hee Haw. I believe these are gifts from God and that, in one form or another, we all have them. So now I can still play Cross Eyed Mary, The Musical Box and flick the heck out of bottle caps too.

This young man has definitely mastered the undergraduate things. He wrote equations for acceleration as a second derivative of position - that’s first semester freshman physics - and he wrote the Schroedinger equation in Cartesian coordinates using both differential and operator forms which is usually encountered in the sophomore year. The matrices describing electron spin are junior year stuff and those can be hard to conceptualize at first. TCU should be very impressed with their young graduate!

This prodigy couldn't be a product of the "love" of learning. A 3-year old boy doesn't simply understand how important learning is to them and randomly want to learn calculus.
