Meet the biohacker who wants to teach everyone how to edit genes
Josiah Zayner is a biohacker who thinks everyone should be able to change their DNA with biotechnology called CRISPR. That’s why he founded a company called The ODIN, which sells do-it-yourself biotech kits that teach people how to genetically modify bacteria and frogs. It's DIY gene therapy.
His company has sold tens of thousands of experiments using CRISPR, an inexpensive and precise gene-editing technology that has revolutionized the field.

We don’t yet have it narrowed down which genes are connected to greater IQ, but I guess we could take some samples from mensa community and some from the test group to check for significant corellations. Also, we already have it narrowed down that there are certain hemoglobin modifications that increace stamina and also there is an athletics gene, so I guess, if not for the controversy, Your request could actually one day become realistic for our grandchildren. 😁

Nope you can use uv light to activate dendrimers with a lentivirus that creates a chain reaction turning on and off certain genes 🧬 creating the perfect body more on this later but to do this you need a weakened immune system which is possible for this I will say the subject has been eating a lot of fast food and not been eating healthy and then a 2nd injection of dendrimers (no specific order) that carries important vitamins and minerals like vitamin c vitamin c and parathyroid hormone testosterone (now back to “first “ injection) mutation of the acvr2b gene allows proteins such as myostatin to be suppressed while increasing production of follistatin leading to to growth in muscle mass allows proteins such as myostatin contractile proteins like actin and myosin need to be significantly heightened enhancing strength a higher expression of the actn3 which encodes a member of thalpha binding protein line increases the volume of fast twitch muscle fibers. the lrp5 gene 🧬 is changed resulting in denser bone formation without sacrificing functionality this gives him incredible strength estimation that he can lift 3 tons easily The body produces protein chains mainly consisting of glycine and alanine blocks weaved through his skin muscle and organs giving him superhuman durability in addition his body makes excess of mg53 proteins giving him super healing peters cardiovascular system is overhauled with genes altered for higher production of blood for better hydration and higher concentration of oxygen automatic metabolic responses that regulate body temp and higher mitochondrial count all of this increases his stamina and endurance genes changed for higher production of glial cells And a mutation of the rutabaga 🧬 allowing for improved neural pathways to store memories longer and a general neural plasticity improvement greater strategic thinking and instantaneously calculate and the dec2 gene is altered allowing the subject to function on fewer hours of sleep. And switching off the p21 gene to slow aging. What do you think?

I see a lot of people aren't listening to what he's saying, but are either assuming things when they know nothing about the person in the video or talking about dangers of missuse. People die from staircases as well but he's trying to learn us how to use it whereas the institutions are telling you to stay at your place and call them whenever you need to use the stairs and pay for the help crazy sums of money so they can learn more and you just stay locked inside the whole time.

Arguably, it’s better having more people interested and able to participate in any scientific field. A lot of scientific, and life saving discoveries were made by accident, and by people willing to take risks. Shake things up, maybe the next grand scientific discovery will be by someone who loves running experiments in their garage. The scientific field isn’t a private club, it’s something everyone can get their hands on if they apply themselves and everything we know to get results. (Results may vary, of course)

With a degree in Molecular Bio, I think the idea is great but the execution is bad. I like people like Josiah that push the boundaries of science and ethics. In large, the ethical component to research hinders the progress of humanity. So this approach breaks down those walls. But it's unsafe to allow people with little to no knowledge to inject themselves. Also, Crispr isn't perfect, so there is a risk of causing severe genetic damage that could inadvertently be passed on to future generations

Not only animals and people but it could also help with pollution, if we could modify more bacteria to eat what we want them to like plastic, yes i already know we made a bacteria that eats plastic but we need to make them better and be able to programe curtain things to eat what we want them to eat there is just so much good this could do.

As a man with some medical background, I can say that sensibilization and all other consequences can occure, especially if you keep in mind that this stuff is not FDA or other control organization approved and that it can't be purified properly and sold for such amount of money. Also if you want real changes, you should extract the right type of cells (stem ones, usual won't work in 99%), purify, transfect them (add the CRISPR-Cas9 system inside, it is actually very complicated to perform even in a lab), then pick the successfully transfected ones and after deliver to your body (even this is VERY simplified explanation of the process). But why to think about all dat egghead stuff if you can just order some strange substance from biophysician (I don't even know if his education allows to do such things, it is area of molecular biology/medicine) and then inject it into your abdomen, thinking that this will prevent HIV?

Well here's a question. Should the FDA be allowed to slow things down until life saving medications get stalled in the pipeline and people die as a consequence of their not being made available? Take a look at how long it took for the current rabies shots to be approved in this country. It was decades after it was being used in Britain. The Pharma/academic/FDA research complex needs a complete revision because medical progress is far too slow as it stands. Every time an administration says they are going to focus on solving some medical condition (like cancer) the whole things grinds to a halt when it goes into the approval "system." That needs to be changed because it is killing people. One way to change it is to create a new group of biological researchers who augment the current system. That is what I believe we are talking about here. It's a new concept that needs time to work itself out, but don't crush it before it blossoms.

Look how fast we got COVID vaccines to market after we broke down barriers. I dont support just throwing treatments at people. Obviously doing dudillgence and studying the gene being edited would have to happen first. But if we can identify specific mutation and know which gene needs to be replaced, that's where this technology fits in. There are multiple companies working on cancer mutation genome mapping in mice. Where they can create the exact mutation we see in human cancers in mice using CRISPR (like you said, it can create cancer too). Now they're learning how to treat those cancers. Before they couldnt replicate in mice the same cancer we see in humans. Thats why there was never much validity in the mice experiments because it would never transpire to humans.

Getting dipshits like this that are goign to give you cancer is the problem, medicicne and scientific research shound't be decentralised, leave it to government regulation (this includes fundings of studies to stop companies from coercing researches into fudging studies to prove a certain hypothesis) leave that to bit-coin and bit-torrent, things that actually benefit from being free.

@terrysuk5077
@terrysuk5077 5 жыл бұрын
@@casey-gt8nl well CRISPR/Cas9 has only 1 function - to cut DNA. To target a specific gene you would at minimum need a synthesized piece of RNA for Cas9 to use to recognize a gene to cut it. Therefore two pieces are required for CRISPR to simply cut, but you cannot just inject Cas9 you need an entry system such as a plasmid to express the Cas9 AND the RNA for cutting. Let's just say he has this stuff if he injects it into his muscle the DNA will not likely pass through the cell membrane and nothing will happen. IF it is able to (by some miracle) and it does make it into the cell it will simply cut the targeted gene and the cell will continuously try to fix itself until the gene becomes mutated which could have deleterious effects such as increasing risk of cancer. If you wanted to actually edit genes you would need to additionally synthesize a piece of DNA to use as a template to be edited in which is an extremely rare occurrence in general let alone trying to do it on a human. And at best case scenario this would only happen to a few cells at the injection site and not the whole body as that is a current limitation in science is being able to target EVERY cell in the human body which is required for this to work properly (even if it was possible our current knowledge of CRISPR only allows for a 1/10000 chance of editing without mutations). So realistically all this man is doing when injecting himself is making himself susceptible to infection from the injection.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think genetic modifications work well on a cellular mature subject; I mean if anything the changes wouldn't be showing until after several months or years. The virus would need time to spread and then the GMO cell would then take time as well to fully proliferate & replace the body as a whole and then maybe the desired traits would start manifesting itself. I think that's the reason why most geneticists works with bacteria/single cell organisms because the results are almost instantaneous due to them being single cell,therefore observable by their next cell cycle. Other larger organisms/specimens were either insinuated at birth or during fetal development to give proper proliferation of the desired GM cell. So if I were to inject myself with a myostatin inhibiting gene for massive muscle growth, I don't think I'll be reaping the benefits anytime soon but my descendants probably will because they were born with it; but that's a maybe...

When genetic engineering was first invented in its earliest form, all the scientists got together and volunteered to have moratorium on all such work, pending a public debate and studies on safety. A few years later, responsible people started to apply these techniques to serious projects which had a worthwhile benefit to them. I think they would all be horrified to see the genetic modification of organisms, which is at the best of times ethically questionable, become a fashionable toy for people who have little idea what they are doing. I mean what sort of modifications do they want to make, and how do they think they will actually make them? It is like giving a tool box to someone with no skills and no materials to work with. Gene editing is a means to an end not an end in itself.
