Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see how the technology is deployed in brownfield projects, particularly in copper mining operations, especially with regard to haul width in relation to the infrastructure required. Additionally, the impact of the battery’s extra weight on TKPH, maintenance, and cycle times will be worth observing. Most intriguing will be how this technology converges with autonomous trucks. Great job, CAT! 👏👏

assuming its as powerful as the trolley wires used currently, itll do well in brownfield projects, as the infrastructure cant really be built on greenfield mines(though these are smaller and cheaper, so maybe it could be used on newer mines as well) the impact of the batteries weight is almost certainly a non-issue, as the series hybrid trucks already have significant increase in producivity and reduction in maintenance over mechanical drive trucks, trolley wire systems improve both of those things even further a few ton extra weight is easily mitigated by all those increases, especially since the trucks already carry 4 tons of diesel, if you have a battery and wire connection you will be using drastically less fuel (for comparison, 1km of trolley wire cuts fuel usage by 40L per cycle)

yeah ok thats really quite brilliant, smaller and cheaper to install infrastructure, and a connection point that has more flexibility. whats the catch why hasnt this done before or instead of trolley wires? is it still able to put out 4.5mw like the trolley wires(you say trolley wires are 'limited' so i assume so)? is there an increased safety risk posed by the wires being at a height that haul trucks are able to hit, as opposed to hitting the steel poles of a trolley wire? does the different contact of the DET limit the speed at which the haul trucks can travel? doing 30-40km/h up grade while loaded is a huge benefit

You have to choose: "Green" energy or a stable energy grid.
@CuthbertNibblesАй бұрын
Europe's grid is both an order of magnitude more reliable and generates an order of magnitude less carbon dioxide than the mess of grids in the US. Additional green technology has nothing to do with stability, functional government regulation makes a grid stable and when that fails only fossil energy can compensate. So, you have to choose, either you get a dirty, expensive, unreliable grid, or you have to stop acting like cowboys who can't coordinate anything across a time zone...

You should think before you talk, silly.

Why? any mine large enough to deploy this is running their own grid.
