The first time that I saw a LAFD Dozer was on an episode of Emergency. Johnny Gage got bit by a rattlesnake and they had to take him back up the hill on the Dozer. Then he had to treat himself on the way to the hospital while riding on the back of the fire truck.

Idiot, you don’t know what your talking about. You don’t understand the story seen by your comment, just saying without thinking moron. M.H. Wouldn’t be proud of it being smaller and lighter, than the lack of power and not capable for urban surroundings. You don’t have no idea what it would take to do it, you have no idea what it would take: the drive, the balls, the knowledge to put it together or the intelligence to either come with such a plan. Your just a stupid kid that sa a video or a clip (tik or insta) saw the chaos or destruction and chuckled (in a lame way) and thought uh cool, “I like dozers” 🐢 Have some respect and at least try to understand the story instead of posting 💩, not fully developed or brainless 💩.

What do you expect from California? Rules for thee, not for me!! They know emissions controls on diesels are unreliable but force the strictest emissions standards on "WE THE PEOPLE". Biggest scam. You can delete your 🍆 but not a diesel.

I think is BS that they don’t have emissions equipment on their stuff but the rest of the state and US is forced to have it on their own cars/trucks. They should have to deal with the same headaches that are associated with that stuff as the rest of the state and US.

I wish we could remove it from our dozers. Sucks to be on the head of a fire and the dozer goes into limp mode because of the emission system.

“It weighs more than a tank” is incorrect a D8 R fire dozer weighs approximately 90,000 pounds while an M1 A2 sep V3 Abrams is significantly over 140,000 pounds. and even the lightest modern day MBT’s are still over 100,000 pounds.

Yes, spotter, navigator or helper. During crisis I believe two trained men in the cab would be better off fire fighting and communicating with air support and so forth.

The second seat is for the swamper. The swamper can ride in real hazard conditions. But can walk near the "Tractor", which they are called, to be eyes on the ground. Looking for obstacles & holes, covered by underbrush, that could cause the tractor to roll over.

The second seat operator runs all the radios in the dozer so the dozers first operator can drive the dozer and the scene seat operator is the look out guy

Fire dozer?? Really, manually operated angle blade, should be hydraulic, no rippers, that winch should be mounted on top of the rippers. The whole top of the front section of the ROPS should be covered with heavy plate steel, to help protect from falling debris. Catching chains should be fitted from the front of the dozer to the top of the blade to stop debris falling in behind the blade, (yes it happens) BUT mainly the biggest issue is that high track Cat dozers are useless in backing up steep country

California & the US Forest Service have tens of thousands of acres designated as NO Mechanical zones for firefighting. No, chainsaws, engine companies, portable pumps or dozers are allowed to operate in those areas. Now you know why we firefighters have a very difficult time getting large fires under control in California. The politicians throw up roadblocks.
