is anyone going to mention how beautifully shot this documentary was? it feels like a real cinematic piece - the music, the framing, the colour grading, the overall cinematography. for instance, in the part where he's consulting his spreadsheet on his laptop with two other cruisers, the lighting is incredible - the golden gleaming of the table centrepiece and all the glasses and drinks on it. seriously, kudos to the director. i would love to see more documentaries like this from this channel!

He IS exactly as depicted!!!! As a cruiser on RCI I've been looking for him for years. I finally found him, on the smoking deck, sitting in his "Office" with chair, computer, desk, sofa, an occasional chair, beverage on hand and smoking a cigar. So, I asked to be seated and he invited me to sit on the sofa. What an experience!! Cordial, pleasant, courteous, friendly, funny with many interests. We visited for quite a while, like old friends. We were on a 12 day Trans-Atlantic cruise. I said "Hi" to him a few days later and he called me by name. A 3rd encounter as I sat wth his Pinnacle level friends at a Trivia Game.What fun! I spoke to a crew member about him and he said he is wonderful, super friendly, respectful and gets every perk and we will get anything, if possible, he asks for. For a serise of full interviews search on YT Life on a Cruise Ship.

Watching this in 2020 and it seemed so well shot but I think what I took away from it is happiness is subjective. To me this lifestyle seems like a nice escape maybe even for a year and the joy of always seeing people celebrating and partying and the fancy lights and sunshine on the water and its sort of romantic in a way but also lonely in another to me. Regardless it really is an interesting piece and is interesting to see the way one wealthy man is choosing to live his life. I wonder if he has been on land since this was shot in the COVID times or if he had to dock breaking his quest for 20 years of cruising.

I believe one can live life alone and not be lonely. The impression I got was that part of the "package" of being a top cruiser, he sort of "owns" the ship and the crew are his staff. Everything is done for him and all he's doing is using his disposal income from good investments 20-30 years ago to pay their wages. :) He even has his own office assigned for him so he can run his internet business too. I liked it when he said, when the timed comes he'll go for one last scuba dive at 400 ft! Good humour right there.

Marc made the comment of how this man is pretending he is ‘the happiest man’ - but we can ‘feel’ the fakiness that comes through. I went on several cruises once & tbh - after your fifth week....it gets a little ‘same “ole same ‘ole.”Family & unique experiences - even a few not so fun things - keep my mind full & my heart happy. Life is better with variety - the gentleman knows that no children & grandchildren is a big part of life that ‘stuff’ will not replace. To each his own. Each human needs to do what is the best for them.😎✌🏽❤

bawfuls I can see why you'd say that, but as an introvert, I disagree. It's easy to stay by yourself when everyone else always leaves. There's no permanence on a cruise so there's no one looking for you. Sometimes it's easier to feel alone in a crowd where no one knows you or acknowledges you. Still, I feel like he does it more to avoid daily responsibilities like cooking and cleaning more so than to avoid relationships.

Well there are a lot of people all over the world who come home lonely from work with no family, no connections, for whatever reason it is what it is. This guy probably just found a comfort zone, even though not ideal, it brings him some sort of peace of mind...it's almost as if he owns the cruise or something. One week turned into one year turned into 20 years. Some people don't really have the need to be intimate or it's really difficult for them, or they are not interested, but this guy was a successful business person -- so you never can tell the strengths and weaknesses of a person. Besides loneliness is relative. From the outside, going on social media (facebook, instagram, ...) all the time trying to find validation from other strangers seems strange too.

I've worked on cruises as a musician and have met a few cruislings, they haven't lived on a ship to this extent, but cruise consistently, and I get a lonely vibe from them. Like when Mario said all his friends were there as he walked in the dining area, but there were just staff there, paid to be civil to him, not saying they wouldn't either way, but you're kinda obliged to listen and befriend passengers, it's your job. I personally find the engagements forced a lot of the time, and I understand Mario when he says he not interested in being involved in the group dynamic. But yes, beautifully shot, I think it lacked some humorous anecdotes, interactions, and a bit of info as to why he is able to afford his lifestyle.

I hate his scuba dive comment, someone would be held responsible for a death like that and it would not be him. Seems like he is hiding depression when he regurgitates that he is the happiest guy in the world.
@TobyCowles

Oisin Willis yeah he seems really depressed and empty. A wondering soul with no goal who tries to cover it up by reminding people how happy he is. Also with the scuba thing if he did it in a state that allows 'death with dignity' or whatever those bills are called and sighned a waiver it might be fine but he really needs to figure out the legality of it before risking ruining someone else's life

Im going to presume that if he goes ahead with his scuba diving plan he will do it on one of the scuba diving excursions that each cruise ship offers. At least they'll have this video as evidence of his planned suicide.

IOozeAwesomeness Oisin Willis is criticizing him because his method of "sleeping with the fishes" could possibly jeopardize someone's career as a dive instructor. It's the selfishness of that choice, not his logic of wanting to leave this life peacefully on his own terms, that's abominable

Really interesting. I've always wondered what it would be to live life on a cruise ship permanently. I wish they went into more detail on how he manages things you do routinely from land. So many people commenting on how he is so lonely, sad etc. but I disagree. He may very well be happy living this lifestyle. I've heard stories about how living on a ship is actually less expensive than living on land. This may very well be the retirement community of the future.

No one's saying he shouldn't have the legal right to live on cruise ships, we're saying that his life is filled with superficial pleasure that will not bring him happiness in the long run, and constantly saying otherwise like he is: "I'm the happiest man in the world" is indicative of not actually being happy. I have the legal right to make fun of a blind person I see crossing a street, but that doesn't mean it's ok if I do. Likewise, he has an absolute legal right to live the rest of his life on cruise ships, but that's definitely a selfish and short sighted thing to do that warrants scathing criticisms

You are missing the point of living. To me, he is the happiest man in the world. That's his happy world. Sounds to me like he 's reached self actualization. All his needs are covered. This is what makes him happy. Understanding that this is how he wants to live his life is what makes him happy and once you start seeing their reality you realize what a great story it is. We all have a different perspective of happiness and we all have a different reality. Every thoughts, every interactions and every experiences you have ever had, have shaped your reality to see this video today. So if you keep your mind open and see his point of view, you' ll see that he truly is happy and the point is to let him be and he will let you be. He found the best place that suits his needs in this reality. Every one is depressed. He is not saying he never gets depressed. He is saying that because he chose his own reality, he is content. Content with the way he is living. If you feel depressed about the idea of living on a boat, then clearly it is not your reality. So go find your own. That is the message. Find you reality, what makes you content, and just live in it. He is not immune to feelings and emotions, he's just a human being. Living.
