The JLTV is a U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps and Special Operations Command program to partially replace the Humvee fleet with a family of more survivable vehicles having a greater payload. Early studies for The Next-Gen Badass Military Vehicle program were approved in 2006. The JLTV program incorporates lessons learned from the earlier Future Tactical Truck Systems program and other associated efforts.

The JLTV is perfect, it has MRAP level protection, can resist mines, missiles, and bombs, and small arm fire, and a suit of sensors to give US ground troops an advantage on optics, and incoming fire. Its literally perfect. Its the future and there are multiple versions designed for command and scout variants and the ability to be upgraded and have heavy armor.

I generally agree but it does look top heavy, check out footage of the gunner for HMMWV vs this footage. The gunner sits really high and up. I think thats the price we pay for the V mine protection 🤷‍♂ I am also of the opinion that while this has a great suspension its too heavy to match off road. HMMWV performance. Trade offs everywhere but OMG all our vehicles are too heavy.

The vehicles needed more armor for mine and IED protection but... the OG humvee cost 70k, this costs 395k? The OG humvee was insanely overpriced and they have taken the price to a whole new level and beyond. 18 tons and 395 thousand dollars? JFC what a Sheesh show.
@SlevenKevin7
@SlevenKevin7 Жыл бұрын
@@Thickcurves I do agree. On most fronts our defense spending is way too overblown. But you also got to understand our humvees were getting decimated in the Middle East by IEDs and RPGs. They just weren’t design to withstand all the duty they were eventually doing. But I also agree near 400k for ONE truck is absolutely ridiculous. It’s a double edged sword. As someone else pointed out, the JLTV is oriented for survivability rather than a “can roll over anything and keep on driving type of vehicle.” Once one does encounter an explosive, it’s back to the shop or possibly fubar. I understand how branches could want this vehicle to fill the hole for lighter armored vehicles, which we have to have. Hopefully unit cost will go down as production volume increases, but yeah, not everything scales. The JLTV is nearly 6x the cost of the humvee, but is it 6x as capable? Probably not. But we also don’t want to have a weak military. Maybe we should interview the crew that’s actually going to be operating it.

It’s a nice vehicle to drive around in but, they need to do something about the transmission whine or more like scream. You can hear it coming further away than certain heavy vehicles. I love JLTVs so much. Slapping heavy armor upgrades on and running full sprint into electric power consumption limits with new tech packages in HMMWVs was unsustainable. Being able to sleep in a warm, airtight box in the field is underrated. Once they figure out their hydraulic suspension reliability issues we'll be set for decades. I don't feel like I'm risking death driving up or down a steep hill with a loaded trailer and the engine's power is ample.

@nancynobullets85
@nancynobullets85 Жыл бұрын
@@arthurofalsen2110 depends on the use. I can roll ANY mrap with lite use. Yeah it can take a hit. Big ones even. I've seen buffalos, rg's, and maxpros get blown up, have their entire front ends in the air as high up as the back section would allow an upward pivot on the back wheels. Then come down and the only damage was to the axle and wheels and whatnot. But the body. Totally fine. The matv? Blown to smithereens. Smithereens I say. I promise. No less. The HMMWV has a huge parts list for specific modifications. And believe it or not? Fairly easy to upgrade on defense and engine power. You're never gonna go fast in either. But you'll be able to move your own weight with a fair amount of ease. All trucks are clidesdales in reference to power. But the HMMWV is the lightest and hardest to roll. Obviously the larger trucks grant you more space. Damn near enough to live in. But for travel use? Outdoor use? The HMMWV. For safety and travel and everything else? Rg, buffalo, Maxpro. Hell even an lmtv or fmtv will net better usage. The matv? Deathbox. But it looks cool. I would personally use the back "porch." On the buffalo as a nightly bathing space. No joke. Biggest truck with the most space and most room to add junk/internal modifications for luxury.

@@arthurofalsen2110 oh. The navy had some big ugly one. Looked like a brinks truck. Special operator use. The cougar or panther I think. Plenty of space to move around in the back. @@arthas640 JLTV is the most capable “light” vehicle the Army or USMC have ever fielded. Superior protection, superior reliability, superior performance all around. JLTV can run circles around ANY HMMWV; the original HMMWV or the current up-armored ones, in soft soil / sand or on highways. 3,500-pound payload (4-door) or a 5,100-pound payload (2-door); a JLTV trailer completes the family. (HMMWV trailers were destroyed when towed behind the JLTV…they aren’t designed to negotiate the terrain JLTV can handle.) JLTV is built for the current conflicts - AND for the future, anywhere in the world. 10Kw onboard power & 10Kw exportable power, fully NET-ready & VICTORY compliant. Transportable by C130, C17, C5, CH47, CH53, and airdrop certified.

China: you cant invade up we are to large and we have mountains... America: We air drop our shit new choppers new light armor America is getting ready for a fast paced hard hitting war....
@arthas640
@arthas640 Жыл бұрын
That's a big reason that while i view China as a growing threat it's hard to really consider them a superpower. The US can airlift vehicles up to an M1 Abrams (around 10 tons heavier than China's MBT) to anywhere in the globe and train for things like difficult helicopter airlifts. In many conflicts since WW2 it's not unusual for the US to have men, light vehicles, and even tanks behind enemy lines before the main invasion force even meets the enemy battle lines. Meanwhile China's biggest threat is their inability to push past their own borders, they'd need a full scale war just to force their way past the first island chain, parts of which are so close to China's coast you can still see their shores from those islands. It's like if the biggest hurdle the US faced was making it from San Francisco past Alcatraz or making it out of the Puget Sound with the fleet intact.

They already are kind of, they sent over some MRAP's and Humvees. Cutting edge vehicles make less sense to send over there though, not only are they untested but Ukraine needs reliable tech and Ukrainians have been training with Soviet made equipment and Humvees more than JLTVs or MRAPs. Ukraine also has a desire for light weight vehicles due to terrible roads and muddy/swampy ground so vehicles like the Humvee work better, the JLTV is roughly 3 times the weight of a Humvee. The fact there's also more than 10x as many Humvees and the fact that even new they're a fraction of the price (used they're either free as aid or dirt cheap) makes them far more available, far easier to scale up, and far easier to replace. The JLTV is superior but Ukraine, much like their Soviet ancestors, places more priorirty on numbers and reliability than cutting edge tech and precision engineering; a bunch of reliable, cheap, rugged, proven vehicles will be more desirable than a much smaller number of unproven, untested ones.

I used to drive the older MATV, I'm hoping they improved the hood latch design. I found out in Afghanistan that if you hit water fast enough, it will break the hood latches. And you'll need the gunners eyes and the reflexes of a mongoose to stop hydroplaning and not hit anything. Shit used to get a little squirrelly in RC south \m/

Hmm. Ideas on how to stop it on the battlefield? Blind the drivers view, use molotov on the turret, if occupants exit from the fire they are immediate targets. It's an expensive tank on wheels. Looks like a fuel hog. Provides good IED protection. Definitely a good security, patrol and VIP escort vehicle.

Belgium has ordered 322 JLTVs to replace the Iveco Lynx, the first will be delivered in 2023. Of these 322 JLTVs, 135 will be equipped with a remotely operated DeFNder Lignt 7.62 cupola from FN Herstal. In addition 20 copies will be assigned to the medical component, the other models are not specified. in any case, I'm curious to discover the first JLTVs, probably during the military parade on July 21.

The vehicles d chassis is great but the air suspension will fail more times than a coil setup. I’ve repaired too many air lines under fire to keep similar vehicles driveable.
