not really the kid breaking the game, the game broke itself. that line clear crashed the game because it couldn't calculate the score fast enough before the next frame. obviously, doing that for 157 levels is still very impressive regardless. you should check out alex t's record on tetris too, he made it to level 235 on modded no crash cartridge, got the game crash twice, beat scuti's record by a little, and got highest ever score in the game. the tetris scene is awesome.

Basically how pacman works is you have a grid of spaces that determine where pacman and the ghosts are at any given moment. You die when pacman and a ghost occupy the same space of the grid at the same time. However, if you run at the ghost with perfect timing so that pacman and the ghost are in the spaces right next to each other, they will both move to the next grid space in the next tick at the same time, which means they switched spaces with each other rather than ever occupying the same space, and without having occupied the same space, the game doesn't kill pacman. It requires perfect timing though, which is why it's so impressive that he did it.

So it is only 30 fps, which is 1/30th of a second. Still difficult, but tens of thousands of people can consistently do this on old Mario speed runs, or 1/60th of a second reactions on newer games.

Actually he isn't. The word cheating implies that you knew what you were doing and knew it was against the rules. It's not his job to inspect the mechanical boards. It's the people who are holding the tournament. And the 1 thing Billy has been consistent on throughout this whole thing is he does not know technology. I mean his son had to set everything up so he can do twitch streams. Plus people say it wasn't on official hardware. Well what constitutes Official Hardware? Does it mean shipped from the Nintendo Factory? Because he did that. Is it a mechanical board from that time period? That's gonna be tricky because all arcade cabinets have been modified over the years. Be it the interior or exterior. Trying to find a pure one that has not been modified is easier said than done.
