All the best of luck with your research and life. You have a great mindset. The goal of having a friendly and complementary environment rather than a competitive one is extremely kind and wise. You deserve your success. :)

acceptance rates for a PhD at MIT are about 5% - like their undergrad - but instead of the all the wannabe HS seniors applying, you are dealing with the best undergrads and MA's around the world applying - I think you are dreaming - but good luck

MIT is where the alphabet agencies pluck the best and brightest for global psyops. I don't think you understand just what it's all about. You are in the hands of the industrial military complex.
@l.w.paradis210818 күн бұрын
Do like they do for admission to Oxford or Cambridge -- present a well-developed thesis proposal, one that you thought about for at least a year. Whether MIT requires that or not, do it anyway. You can change your mind, that's not the problem. They are looking for people who WILL complete a thesis and publish it, with a very high quality publisher. No ABDs/"terminal Master's" allowed; that infuriated Admissions. I remember when Paris wouldn't accord a doctorate in the sciences to anyone absent a published paper based on their thesis, accepted by a major peer-reviewed journal. They considered that added assurance of academic honesty and originality. Thesis defense was no joke, either. Granted, that was 40 years ago, but standards were very high. Good luck!!!

Wow. Sounds so easy, like going through a drive-thru, choosing something from the menu. You smart ones don't forget the rest of us when you are slogging through the trenches of your academics. Remember us & take us with you on your ride as you endure your studies. In hindsight you'll remember that it was extra-additionally worth it because we were along the ride with you.

@@DhairyaMehta20 well all depends on how much money I have, if I can get some scholarship coverage I’d like todo a phd in either neuroscience or biomed engineering, if not I’ll prob go masters is aero like you said, I do have a friend doing MechE with focus on aero who shows me stuff he learns and could learn some stuff from him (supposedly Elon would borrow books from a friend in school and that doesn’t sound like a half bad idea to me lol)

I used to think about being a university professor to do something scientific and innovative while being in academics, but then I realised that becoming an inventor businessman is a smart choice. in this way I can become rich and continue more innovation without waiting for government grant or some funds from other rich people. becoming a rich businessman from innovation is better because that way I can help others and provide funds to other researchers. 😏
