Some schools they play most likely don't have great coaching or as much money to work with. He's at a D2 school which means they get to play shittier teams all season long until post season. The real solution to this is to move them to D1. If they are as dominant as said then they have no business beating up on teams that are so far in terms of skill. Second if he thought it was a matter of conditioning then he should've done more of that in practice. It's a cop out to say he needs to have his starters blow out a team 91-0 to build their stamina. All that preparation is done in practice and everyone whose ever played knows that. I think he just wants to pretend that it's impressive to dismantle teams he KNOWS are weak. It's not impressive it makes you look like an ass. It's known and commonly accepted in the YOUTH football community that if you are dominating you let your 2nd 3rd 4th string get some field time and participation and that's less about score margins and more about letting less experienced or talented kids getting to have some fun too. Its selfish and bad etiquette to just play starters because the only sense of pride you get is living vicariously through 16 year olds.

@@stevensonx9 'bama would have 2 or 3 more national championships had they just kept their starters in, risking injury to star players by keeping them in far longer than necessary? That's just idiotic nonsense, it literally doesn't even make sense considering 'bama doesn't have those national championships recently because they get beat by one of the other 3 CFP teams, not because they bench their starters too soon in games that are already won. Besides, 'bama's bench is so deep due to their first dibs picks of the cream of the crop in terms of high school football talent that's out there, that their 2nd and even 3rd stringers are better than the starting squads - except maybe a select few players on each team - even within the SEC with the divisional teams they play.

@Krystal Giove I don't know that much about Texas football, but where I played the size of the school determined what class the school participated in. To put a small school in a higher class than they qualify for does not make for good competition. The way to compete with this particular school is to make your players better by good coaching. The schools all have a set numbers of students that determine what class they play in, so all should be fairly equal. Coaching makes the difference.
@jamespaugh5686
@jamespaugh5686 3 жыл бұрын
@Krystal Giove I did not know that this school is a private one. Where I played there were no private schools so recruiting was not an issue. I do not believe that private schools should be allowed to recruit athletes. If the parents want to pay for their child to go to a private school then so be it. Private schools should only be allowed to offer scholarships based on academic achievements and then on finical need. I know there will be some coaches who would use that to get players and that is unavoidable. Where I played the coach, or athletic director, of the school made their own schedule. If no school would schedule these private schools who circumvents the rule about recruitment then that would keep the playing field level.

Once upon a time I was an assistant principal at Refugio Elementary School and while on bus duty one day, I witnessed Coach Herring do the following: One of our elementary students was going to be picked up late from school because his parents had a flat tire outside of Victoria. The student was crying quite a bit and we all tried to do our best to console him. Coach Herring heard about what was going on and drove to the elementary school at about 3:45 PM, right before football practice. He hit a knee in front of the student and asked him if he wanted to be one of his assistant coaches during practice for the day while he waited for his parents to arrive. The student stopped crying and smiled from ear to ear. I can remember asking that same student back in 2013 what he wanted to be when he grew up and he replied “I want to be the starting running back for the Refugio Bobcats”. This week, I got to see that same student play running back for the Refugio Bobcats. These are the kind of memories I have of working on the leadership team in Refugio, Texas. It’s leaders like Jason Herring that make hero’s out of young men in Refugio. Congrats to the Bobcats on their state title win this week!!! Go Cats Go!

As a CT native myself, I know that small schools are able to move up in divisions and compete with larger schools for their regular and post seasons if the small school has a good enough roster. However, large schools cannot go down in divisions if they aren't very talented. It seems to me like this small school should be competing with the larger more competitive schools throughout the regular season instead of the smaller less competitive schools.

Hey Texas. I'm from Illinois. For quite a long time- decades- Illinois football was divided into 8 classes, each of which is awarded a state championship at its level. It is still that way, actually, but it used to be far more rigid. School enrollment determined which level a team would be at, and that didn't work out so well with private schools. Joliet Catholic (known for a guy named Rudy) was at the 4A level (out of 8 total) and here's a fun fact, JCA has produced A Lot of NFL talent. Rudy just happens to be the one that got a movie made about him. Providence Catholic played at the 3A level because that's where their enrollment was at. Both of those schools are private. Both of them recruit talent from a Really Wide Range, covering 5 or 6 school districts. Both of them have excellent coaching staffs and great development of talent all around them. Both of them blew out their competition within their class on a regular basis including playoff games, but they never played the biggest schools so we would only wonder which teams were really the best. That all changed back in the early 2000s, and for the first time in almost 50 years Providence Catholic played a game against a nearby 8A school (and by nearby I mean less than 15 minutes away). This was also the start of movement between divisions. Student enrollment became a general rule, but not a hard and fast one. Private schools moved up a division or two based on past performance, and then some of them moved around a little more after that. The school district that I went to high school in saw each of its three schools in different divisions for a little while, then a fourth one opened at a lower division to start with while the biggest one dropped two divisions and then moved up one. Quite a few schools moved around multiple times, and a certain amount of mobility became the rule rather than the exception. So hey there, Texas. Would it really be so difficult for your state to start moving teams between divisions? Make a series of special exceptions. Maybe some of these pushover teams actually need to be in a lower division. This dominant team certainly needs to be in a more challenging division, but let's not get too crazy right away. Consider moving them up one slot at first, or two at the most. Plan on making some additional moves later on, further down the line. This is a public school, yes? It just happens to be small and also very good at developing talent? Okay, fine, it's Texas. Everyone should be able to respect that. Work with what you've got and move the program up a level or two. Put them up against better competition. That's it. It shouldn't be all that hard to get that done. Cobble together a football conference that is a bit more far flung, schedule some of the longer travel near the end of the season, and maybe at the beginning you keep a couple of the nearby punching bags on the schedule just to keep things easy at the start (and you do want a nice blowout for Homecoming, right?) Otherwise just put them at a different level and make a bunch of changes for other schools too, based on performance and actual level of play rather than strict categorization according to the size of the student body.

To their opponents: get good. And I understand them worrying about how their players will handle a loss by 70, 80, 90 points, but that's life. Stop trying to shelter kids from the inevitable emotional ass-kickings they're going to receive later in life. I'd rather learn how to deal with negative emotions after losing a football game by several touchdowns than learn how to deal with them later in life when real life issues arise.

Tomm Watson okay lol yeah Its broad but I’m talking about for this scenario that your team is very good beating teams by that many. And you could have pulled your player lomg time ago(and someone who actually has a future in the sport, not just “anyone”) happened plenty of times in California, Texas and Florida. And that’s just football alone.

This isn't a recent development. Opposing coaches and teams have been complaining about other much talented and better teams running up the scores on them for decades. Woody Hayes & Ohio State would run up the score during their rivalry games (especially against Michigan)& that was in the 60s & 70s. It's an unwritten rule & a show of respect to call the dogs off during a blowout. I personally don't have a problem with it. Like the narrator said, the coach noticed his players were gassing out before halftime during important games, because he was benching them early during blowouts(which was almost every game)so he kept them in and kept their momentum going. I put myself in his shoes & I would have done the same thing. It's all about winning, and winning championships. & if you have a problem with that,then deal with it. Get better and beat them,keep the game close or closer & quit your fucking whining!! *"THERE'S NO CRYING IN FOOTBALL"!!*

I have no problem playing the starters for the full game. Successful programs like this have lofty goals that can only be achieved if the players get the playing time and experience they need to be ready come playoff time. I played a lot of football, and the more you play and the more you see on the field, the more comfortable you become and the less anxious when the game gets tight. If I were in this coach's shoes I would do the same thing. When I was up comfortably though I would stop throwing and just work on the run game.
