If course he will get all the right guidance. He is black. People will be jumping over each other to give him the best chance at really making it in the sport. If he were white or Asian even, all of a sudden there will be barriers, temptations and handicaps galore blocking his path to success. Hirakawa Kiryu found that out the hard way. He still ran sub ten a few times though.

Athing mu, Gout Gout, Peter Bol, Lopez Lomong, all find their roots in South Sudan. Superstar from the 100 meters to the 10,000 meters. I pray peace comes to South Sudan for many reasons - but I bet there are hundreds just like them whose families are either in Refugee camps or caught up in the awful cycle of tribal warfare. Pray for South Sudan.

I'm a teacher from Kenya, and kenya is known for long distance running.. South Sudan might be a hidden unexploited gem in athletics, even tougher than Kenya and Ethiopia.. there are South Sudanese refugee students in Kenyan schools.. recently, there were Highschool athletic sports in Kenya, one south Sudanese female student would overlap Kenyan students, yet Kenya is usually dominant in such sports..

I definitely agree that the important thing is that Gout Gout is well guided, so that he can steer clear of the hype, stay healthy, and focus on becoming the world-class athlete he surely will become. Even if we notice: His capability of achieving record-breaking times at such a young age His stance, strength, stride and speed at 100m and 200m (which are all unnervingly reminiscent of another certain record breaking sprinter) The fact that the 2032 Olympics are due to take place in Brisbane...

I’m not sure he will get invited to a diamond league meet until he competes internationally at a world level and does at least fairly well. Knighton didn’t appear in a diamond league meet until 2022, the year after his break out 2021 season. If there was a Diamond League event in Australia, he might have had a shot getting 1 spot because I think each Diamond League event is required to leave at least 1 possible space for an athlete of their own country, but since there are no Diamond League meets in Australia, he will have a tough time getting a spot at such a young age. Once he starts beating professional athletes, he will get noticed and will eventually get invited to the Diamond Leauge.

In my day you were lucky to sprint the 50 yard dash on concrete ground or cinder track. They ran 100 yard dash and 220 yards no meters in USA high schools. 440, mile, 2 mile, etc.. Long jump , high jump. , etc.., was all in feet. I see him having a great future in track n field. Another Bolt in the making.

That is a wonderful and very responsible appraisal of this young sprinter/runner. I think you are correct on all counts and a cpl of days ago he just clicked a 20.77 in the 200 and he seriously looked like he just cantered over the last 30-40 meters, I'm almost positive had he pushed he could have broken the world record for his age group. I'm looking forward to seeing how he progresses over the next 12 months and if all goes well we could have a world champ at the ripe old age of 18-19 yo. I like you hope he is enjoying every minute of his newly found success and hope even more the press leave him be and don't presure him out of the sport like they have so many others. Cheers and keep up the great work.

That’s fast for a 16yr old but it looks super fast because of the field he’s running against. It would look the same if you had someone running 11.25 against a field running 12s.

I remember running against super talented sprinters. It was like they had a V8 and you had a V4. You tried harder but they won from better lungs and body. I never was bitter about that, just hoped they made something of their gift.

The only athletes they compared this awesome athlete to were Australians, who are not exactly at the top of the track rankings. There were no actual world rankings listed, but only Australian sprinter rankings. He's not even in the top 200 in World all time U18's, but he is ranked 5th in the current '23/'24 world U18 rankings. Still quite impressive.
