I think the one thing that I appreciate is they're doing their research on the characters and they're extremely excited to play the characters and I love it! The staff seems like they're really trying to be consistent and faithful and I appreciate that alot. That's one thing I wish other live action shows did. They seem to care a lot I mean look at the Strawhat ship its beautiful.

Zoro is almost definitely going to use three swords at least sometimes and it wouldn’t be that complicated. Just have a hilt with teeth groves specifically made for him and cgi the blade in. It’s to important for him to have 3 swords I think. And in that same vein Usopp probably won’t have a long nose because it’s not important and would look silly. I’ve already seen girls crushing on usopps actor. They’re not gonna make him look all freaky lol

Yeah. I agree. They should use his 3 sword style sparringly, but at least he should be using 2 swords mostly. That's mostly the bulk of Zoro's moveset in terms of looks because I see Onigiri and Tiger hunt/Tora Gari and think "he doesn't need a sword in his mouth for these moves." Also for Usopp, they don't have to make it super long, but maybe a little longer than usual.

If we're being real they're going to tone down the exaggeration to make it work in a realistic setting. Sanji will still be suave but his perverted nature like Melloroine~ or Nami~swan will just be flirty gestures or casanova plays. Expectations need to be kept in check.

Taz is not only directed Multifacial, but he himself plays in it! I'll definitely recommend it to everyone to get a good idea of his acting range. The guy is incredible and I'm sure he'll be amazing as Sanji, I'm really hyped for him!

Like even if he plays Sanji perfectly there are so many other things that can go bad. But I have faith atm, I just really hope it won't be crushed.

I think the best way to do Usopp's nose is when the group is in log town (if they do the filler arc) have Usopp buy a pair of "disguise" glasses, that use the long nose, and that way if they do more than the east blue arc, he can use that whenever he is hiding from someone/somthing and use it as a series of gags

The best thing we can do is keep an open mind and support the creation. The interviews with Matt Owens have been incredible. The nonstop comparison to live action anime movies is a horrible - this is a tv series with a large budget and a great team. Let's see how Bebop goes since Tomorrow Studios is also behind it before we drag the actors - who are real people - through the mud.

Most manga readers hate his cringy gag anyways that's why he gets bashed so much. But it wasn't that bad pre timeskip. The rest of the woke topics like race discrimination and LGBTQ are part of the story already.

Emily Rudd was really great in Fear Street! Her character in it wasn't really anything like Nami (except maybe acting scared and screaming), because she plays a very honest and well-behaved character, but I guess Nami acts like that aswell! But you can clearly see that she is doing a good job, most of the Fear Street Actors do in fact. So I'm thrilled for Emily Rudd as Nami!

The main writer is matt owens. He did an interview in Rogers reverie stream about 2 years ago. TLDR is that he is at least very passionate about it and it's very personal to him. And Oda has trust in him.

"Santoryu isn't a real style, you can't train with that" Dude, did you even see Rurouni Kenshin? That whole series has some pretty goofy and unpractical sword styles and they made it work. If Zoro doesn't use santoryu in the live action that's just gonna be hella dumb. Isn't goofy stuff what One Piece is about?

I don't think it would be too hard to have 3 sword style portrayed in live action. Aside from what Tekking mentioned, they could also just have the actor use two swords as real props and the one held in his mouth is just the handle. With the blade being CGI

But without the exaggeration of manga/anime I think it would just look lame. Arms can swing which makes hits impactful and Zoro is stylized so that he can hold it in his mouth while looking badass. A real human just looks stupid doing that. I just feel this is all a bad idea. Without the stylization and exaggeration One Piece just doesn't work.

The cast looks good overall, I agree. I think they could get away with the goofier elements of the series being goofy cgi moments. Like when Usopp lies have his nose grow in cgi but have a normal nose overall. I think having a ghostly/haki phantom 3rd blade animated when Zoro lands hits in serious fights. So not a physical blade and worrying about practical effects. Overall it’s a goofy series and I think adding that goofiness to the LA would be fine. I think we’ll probably see an attempt at a more practical OP, but I think without the goofy nature the show (especially East Blue) won’t have the same spark.

Bad history mostly passed down via secondhand opinion though. Like I know there are standout bad live actions are there but from all of the Live action I have watched The ratio of good ones are higher than the bad ones. And all npc "live action is bad" comment only can ever reference Dragon ball evolution or Netflix Death Note as examples. Like any people can immediately name you more good live action than those 2. Like its funny how anime fans evolved. Like anime fans back in the days are the ones who gets into anime even though people in general has a bad notion about anime. And its funny how the typical anime fan fears live action just because people has a bad notion towards it.

Yeah you can have a good one like Rurouni Kenshin , but samurai x isn’t as well known an anime as dragonball. Nor are a lot of the other good ones, but on the other hand the bad ones are a lot more mainstream like dragonball , death note , FMA , Avatar and AOT. Those are mainstream as hell lmao. So yeah you can have a really good one like jo jo , but not many people know jo jo or Joseph or Jonathan or any of the Joe stars let alone Dio and stands lol , but more people are likely to know Goku and therefore that live action sucking has a higher impact the same way the other mainstream movies sucking have and will continue unless Oda turns around the opinion and blows our minds with this live action cause one piece is about the most mainstream anime out there so the impact of a bad live action this time will never go away. I hope he succeeds tbh 🤟🤷‍♂️

Most fans like some anime even though they are aware of how shitty that particular series and that is where the fun is as an anime fan and where these clashing opinions thrive. Some people like the shit that some people shit on and that is fine. But now just because a thing is deemed bad, everybody becomes Yes man. Nowadays people tend to be over critical that is why they shy away from diving into something just cause of others apprehensive thoughts on it. Back in the days, even if you get bullied for it you will still watch anime. My point is the fanbase kinda lost their guts to venture the uncharted lands.

Part 6 coming out has insane hype around it. A much much better example would be something like Alice in Borderland. It's decently popular, but no where near mainstream. And from what I've heard the live action version was really good.

Sure it got plenty of hype for a few years , and it came back when “stardust crusaders” came around , but it still never reached the level of mainstream adoption as something like Naruto , dragonball , bleach , one piece or even death note. If I ask an average person “whose dio” “tell me about the stone mask and the pillar men” “what’s your favorite stand power” they’ll be like “who” “what??” , but if I ask them “whose naruto” “whose goku” they’ll most likely know immediately lol. That’s when you call the anime “mainstream” even demon slayer and fairy tale TOUCHES those levels of main stream. I would say jo jo didn’t sorry 🤷‍♂️ Alice in borderland is just way more obscure along the lines of something like “promised never land” where you REALLY have to be a fan of anime to know and have seen these anime’s because they branch off from the normal.

Mackenyu said that he got this role who was love by so many people for his upcoming project through audition. So he did do audition to get casted. Not like Oda asked him to lpay Zoro. And it's great how Mackenyu actually really want to play Zoro and did the audition! The universe help Oda lol

I’m hoping this will be good but there’s a lot I’m worried about translating from 2D to 3D Zoro’s Santoryu, Sanji’s personality towards women, buggy, Usopps nose, the fishman (mainly how they’d look with CGI) This is only really my east blue worries, the more you get in if they have more seasons, the more problems arise

Dont forget about the script. Netflix has a nack for making terrible scripts for live action adaptation. There's also the meager 10 episodes to condense a multiple chapter arc, but that's the least concerning part to be honest.

Given the 10 episodes, should go: 1: Romance Dawn to Alvida and Coby 2: Zoro, Captain Morgan, and Kuina via flashbacks intercutting 3: Orange Town Pt 1 4: Orange Town Pt 2 5: Syrup Village 6: Barate Pt 1 7: Barate Pt 2 8: Arlong Park Pt1 9: Arlong Park Pt2 10: LogueTown

The solution to santoryu is to have the grip of the sword be unusually long. Like a single hand blade with a two-hand grip. Making a prop sword is not an issue, and clever editing can help with the action (as obviously it would look very silly if the thing keeps getting knocked out of his mouth like would actually happen). You can't do Zoro and not have him put his sword in his mouth.

So you mentioned that connection between Luffy and Usopp. Eichiro Oda said that for Luffy, Usopp is that "friend in trouble". Like if Luffy is with Usopp he acts like a kid, and makes things, moves that normally are out of his character. They're just having fun. For example I remember a scene from One Piece where the guys from the crew saw Nami taking a bath or something like this. And Luffy was like super excited. Like Uuuuuuuuu. And we all know that it is out of his character. But as I mentioned it, Oda sensei explained it. Edit: Another fun thing. I think I saw a post posted by Zoro's or Sanji's actor. I hope Zoro has the santouryu the entire time. The way I would handle it as an action director would be to have him fight using a two-sword style, and then I would make three tools, 1. a realistic "hero prop" of his third sword, which would only be used for a reference photo of him getting ready to fight or for extreme close-ups. 2. a "blank" sword, one that is ONLY a hilt and is designed with a mouthpiece so that it's easy to hold in the mouth and would not swing around too much. No blade at all. This would be used in most fight scenes, with the blade CGed in. Then there would be one in between, a hilt like the #2 one, but with a very light weight blade to it, similar to prop lightsabers, so that they can reference the full length of it. This would mainly be used in _slow motion training_ for the fight scenes, to make sure that their choreography would not cause the blade to clip anything (like in that infamous Rise of Skywalker shot with the vanishing dagger), and for portions where the blade might clash with an opponents, but would probably be impractical to use in actual filming, since the mouth blade could be a safety risk at full speeds. I do agree that he should be two-sword _most_ of the time, but he should use three-sword attacks in most combat-heavy fights for at least one attack. It's core to his character.

As a taylor I'm very interested for the costumes and the design. What kind of fabrics will be used? None of the characters have much money except Nami, though I would think she has clothes that seems expensive. I like to think that Luffy, Zoro and Usopp wear a lot of cotton and linen. Sanji is a little difficult, general his design. We love his eyebrows!!! But when someone sees the live action and knows nothing about the show, I would say he would be irritated. A good middle ground for me would be a tattoo, it could even seem like a scorpion tail. Which would be hilarious if you think of his background as a prince of a royal Assassin-family.

I couldn't care less about "diversity" in and of itself, but I am very happy that they are using the nationality of the straw hats in the casting. I want the characters to be as close to the "real" ones (lol referring to manga as real) as possible. The little details matter and so far this looks like it will be off to a great start. Let's all pray that this live-action won't end up like Dragonball evolution or, worse...avatar, the last air bender live-action movie.

The difference between Dragonball Evolution/Avatar Live action and One Piece live action is first and foremost Oda was involved in the casting and has input on the production it seems, the same can't be said for Toriyama when it comes to evolution and I have my doubts the person who made Avatar worked with Shyamalan too but I'm too lazy to check that for sure. An adaption will only be as good in as far as the people making it love the product, Alita: Battle Angel was great and it was great because the guy who made it was a massive fan of the source material.... I say this because we have plenty of fans on the production side like Matt Owens. I think at the very least even if the result is a disappointment I think it will have been trying it's best even if it failed.

Omg Tekking you have GOT to watch Rurouni Kenshin 🥲 I used to hate live actions and I still dislike a lot of them, but Rurouni Kenshin blew my mind. Pushing the quality of the movie aside (which was great), I absolutely loved the action there, especially in the installment where Mackenyu played! And Mackenyu's fighting scenes, I have no words for it, it was AMAZING.
