Meet the USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79): the second Deadly Gerald R. Ford class aircraft carrier
On January 5, 2009, Northrop Grumman Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) Shipbuilding was awarded a $374 million contract for design work and construction preparation for the John F. Kennedy. On September 30, 2010, Northrop Grumman announced that preparations were underway to begin construction. On February 25, 2011, the Navy held the First Steel Cutting ceremony at Northrop Grumman in Newport News, marking the official start of construction for the John F. Kennedy.
