I HAVE driven 5 trailers across from East to West and return many times....... the various points raised here are FACT.... long hours at the wheel... days and sometimes WEEKS from home.... a one way trip Sydney to Perth and Return took just over a week..... Hook on in Sydney with full tanks... top up in Port Pirie to make sue you have enough to get to at least Kalgoorlie... and away you go... one day in Perth to unhook have a shower and rest then hook on again for the long trip home...... the CB and CDs being the only sounds aside from the drone of the engine.... IF you are lucky you could have the HF longer range "Flying Doctor" Radio.... these are great.... first you get some additional chatter but most importantly if needed you can call for help....... something I had to do ONCE following a breakdown.... was a hard life but very VERY satisfying

Simple economics. An articulated "Semi" uses one driver and a unit consumption of fuel determined by weight and wind resistance. A second trailer will still have a single driver but consume 15% more fuel - for double the load. A third trailer takes the fuel consumption to about 30% more than a single trailer but now three times the load and still only a single driver.

A few things. It’s not just the type of cab. It’s the Rig itself. Certain rigs have different t pulling characteristics. My old man was a trucker for 40yrs. He preferred a Mac or KW. other rigs especially over seas models weren’t up to the task or power needed. As well not just heat. But bull-dust it gets into everything which is a problem for maintenance

Correction: They aren't semi-trucks, but semi-trailers. The vehicle with the engine, cabin, & driver is known as a tractor, the job of which is to pull the trailer(s). The first trailer, with part of its load weight being bourne by the tractor, is the "semi" trailer (so called due to this distribution of load bearing). Any trailer(s) being fully towed by the lead vehicle and bearing all of its load on its own axles, is a "full" trailer. This is where we get the differentiation of tractor and trailer, tractor and semi-trailer, and truck and trailer combinations. EXAMPLES: Truck/trailer - a large, commercial, dump truck, drawing a full trailer, bearing a piece of heavy equipment (such as a backhoe, bulldozer, or excavator). Tractor/trailer - a commercial road tractor, drawing an office trailer, to/from a construction site. Tractor/semi-trailer - the vast bulk of commercial tractor/semi-trailers seen on the roads, be it a simple box van, a refrigerated trailer, a flatbed trailer, or a "low-boy" trailer.

I stopped driving in 16 after a road rager complained to my company. Never looked back. Crap roads , abusive car drivers and DOT and overzealous police is why a lot of us are retired early. Oh and how dovyoubpass them. The roads in some areas are miles straight so get on CB which most car drivers in the outback have, pull out when clear and communicate with truck driver and put the foot down. In WA you could pass 10/20 of these in a 100 kilometres
@neilburns8869Күн бұрын
You would think that there might be some international standards that prohibit the length of the truck from being so long, because I sincerely doubt it can be that safe for just one person to operate.

It's hard to believe these giant beasts on the roads in Australia! 🚛💨 The road trains are not just transportation vehicles, but symbols of resilience against harsh nature. Pulling up to 7 trailers across bumpy roads, under scorching heat, and facing kangaroos at night is truly a feat! 😲🌞 It's not just superior engineering, but also the unwavering spirit of the drivers - the unsung heroes of the Outback. Not everyone can take on this challenge. What about you, would you dare to take on the journey of these "road trains"? 💪🔥

Australia needs a Mag-lift train built across the entire country and you wouldn't have to have those gas guzzling trucks. Since you hAve a shortage of drivers why not switch to newer technology that runs on magnets??? Zero Point Energy!!!
@Franky2A313 сағат бұрын
Do you have any idea how big Australia is? Building a gigantic magnet for a train will definitely shift the Earth's magnetic poles. You need more than just magnets to create Zero Point Energy, and if you need did, you won't survive.
