Oh good god Robert, you get to have far too much fun in your job! Flying planes at Duxford, testing future tech in China… where does it end!?! What a fantastic experience. I’ve been admiring Esmont frames for a while now. So glad someone like you is now championing them. Can’t wait to see some. Bravo!

I know, and to have clients like you 😉 I'm so lucky. Dream job. BUT - some life advice for people who read this - I would say I made this into my dream job... When I started in my industry, it would have been absolutely insane to suggest an optician could do all the things I get to do. I made it my mission to change our industry, to try to inspire people to see glasses differently and, like you, to truly enjoy collecting and wearing them.

omg Robert... this so reminds me of my flight school training days in Bankstown airport in Australia 😂... Did you feel nauseous on the flight? As it is a small aircraft that you were in. My favourite frame in this video is the rimless (sterling silver colourway)... I do have to say that their styles appear to follow the likes of JMM and Chrome Hearts (derivatives of these 2 brands) ? Or is it just my imagination? 🤔
@esmontofficial2 ай бұрын
The plane is a 1967 Mooney M20F. Robert handled it incredibly well despite some challenging weather and turbulence, and on the return, we faced VMC minimums with rain and strong winds landing in Blackpool. As for your observation, while Esmont shares a dedication to exceptional craftsmanship and premium materials with the brands you mentioned, our designs and storytelling are uniquely rooted in the spirit of aviation, exploration and adventure.
@thespectaclefactory2 ай бұрын
I definitely see similarities with those brands, but for me they are distinctive enough. For example, the embellishment detail on the Black Angel is akin to Chrome Hearts, but if anything it is more original coming from Esmont because it has a clear point of reference in its inspiration. I didn't know you flew! We'll have to chat when you're here!
@karenvater16342 ай бұрын
@@esmontofficial Thanks for sharing that. I too am amazed that Robert took to the skies well in a small aircraft, considering his ´fear of heights´ 😅

@@thespectaclefactory 😂 I recalled in one of your past videos of your ´fear of heights´.... kudos to you that you still took to the skies in the small aircraft. 😅 I found a couple of pics of me and my even smaller Cessna... we can have a good laugh at the pics when I see ya! 😂

We love Bremont too, so thank you for the feedback! It’s a shame they’ve taken a different direction with their brand story in recent years, but their legacy still resonates. We’re inspired by that same dedication to craftsmanship and heritage, and it’s great to know it comes through in Esmont.

Seems like everyone is making handmade sunglasses in Japan is the quality control Upto the mark then ?
@esmontofficial2 ай бұрын
@@agnesolsvik Unfortunately, you’re right. In the eyewear industry, transparency is often lacking, and many brands don’t fully disclose where their frames are actually manufactured. Similarly, “Made in China” doesn’t necessarily indicate lower quality-it often just reflects a different price point. However, it’s true that Japanese craftsmanship in eyewear is exceptional, and a significant factor is the quality of life and fair wages for workers. In Japan, workers enjoy fair treatment, regular holidays, and a five-day workweek, compared to the six-day workweeks often seen in Chinese factories. This level of care results in a higher production cost, and in our experience, frames need to meet a high price threshold to be made in Japan. This is a brief overview of some industry insights. Rest assured, our frames are crafted to the highest standards you can expect from the best workshops in Japan.
