Meeting and Fighting Hydaelyn | Xeno Reacts to FFXIV Endwalker MSQ

Xeno and The Scions make their way down to the Aethereal Sea where they finally meet Hydaelyn face to face. After the Elpis chapter of the story we know Hydaelyn's past identity: she is Venat and this has been her plan all along. It's time for her to finally join the star. This is part of the level 89 quest "Her Children, One and All". Xeno gives his first, blind reaction to the Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker story (MSQ) cutscene.

You'll notice that Urianger notices her moving to safety on the first mechanic, and proceeds to follow her movements for the rest of the fight. Estinien still can't tell Alisae and Alphinaud apart. He shouts to Alphinaud to get back for an aoe, but he is back, standing over by Urianger. Alisae is the one standing in the aoe. XD

To be fair, her plans failed over and over again. She didn’t intend for the rejoinings, and she even failed completely in an alternate timeline with the eight umbral calamity and the death of the Warrior of Light. I think our survival and raise to power was also “the will of the universe” or “predestined” so to speak. I doubt reality would allow a being to extinguish all life in the universe.

She *needed* to sunder creation so they could fight Meteon. Her plan would only really truly have failed if all the rejoinings happened or Zodiark were freed.

One thing they did well in this story is humanize Hydaelin. Though we are her "Champion", by the time we met her it was not the over-saturated "CHAMPYUN" like WoW in BFA, but rather Venat's friend who can fight in her stead and hopefully save this world

I really liked the choice for Venat to frame the attempt to confront Meteion as a *threat* to Etheirys unless or until they prove themselves capable of attempting it, and therefore her obligation to stop them. Which is also kind of, IMO, a tacit acknowledgment that this is the real thing, this isn't sparring

Okay, so a lot of people still haven't figured this out. You aren't talking with Azem in Shadowbringers, in Amaurot. You're speaking with Hythlodaeus, Emet-Selch's companion in Elpis, in The Unsundered World. When he noticed Ardbert in the administrative center in Amaurot, he said most couldn't see Ardbert, but he could. As you recall, Hythlodaeus is unrivaled in his ability to perceive Aether, but admits he has no talent for using it. That's why he passed on the nomination to become Emet-Selch, and nominated Hades in his stead. He tells you that in his time, the two of you were one. He also tells you he was a friend. That's because YOU are Azem. The sundered, reborn version of Azem. Azem chose to become Venat's/Hydaelyn's champion, and wasn't afraid of a new adventure, and thus allowed himself/herself to be sundered, and become the Warrior of Light. As you recall in your fight in Elpis with Venat, she mentioned you're the only person other than her successor who managed to best her in single combat. Each time there's a Calamity, and a reflection is rejoined to the Source, those sundered fragments of peoples souls return to them during rebirth, just as all that aether does, throwing things out of balance. All those living in the Source are seven times rejoined with the fragments of their former selves. The Warrior of Light is the only one who is eight times rejoined, due to Ardbert merging with them to keep them from succumbing to Primordial Light, and to aid them in facing Hades. You are about 57% of Azem's original aetheric density, at this point in the story. The rest of the world, following the Seventh Umbral Calamity - and you, before Shadowbringers - are sitting at about 50% aetheric density. As well, if you've played through Pandaemonium, you understand that the only thing separating you from really "being" Azem is a combination of aetheric density, memory, and experience. Of course, unless the Ardor were to take place, and all the Reflections were rejoined to the Source, there would be no way to really "be Azem" again. The totality of memory, experience, and aetheric density are still spread across several reflections, and we aren't 100% certain what happened to the reflection of you in the Thirteenth, a.k.a., "The Void." There's a chance that your reflection in the 13th is still there, being that nothing in the Thirteenth can die. It's possible that Zero is "you" in the Thirteenth, though they have yet to hint at whether or not that's the case. And while being sealed in Memoria is a possibility, they've made it clear that nothing is ever so final and static that someone can't find a way to undo it. So, that's why you've never interacted with Azem. Unless you count Ardbert as Azem, being that he's another sundered fragment of Azem. But that's really not the same. However, the aetheric signature is identical, which is why Hythlodaeus and Emet notice it when they find you in Elpis, and why Emet sees "you"(Azem) in the light when you rejoin with Ardbert, during the finale of Shadowbringers. Hope that clears it up a bit.

I'm CRYING watching Xeno trying to get along with the trusts. I play at weird hours so I used trusts almost exclusively to level everything 80-90 and have probably yelled every single thing Xeno is saying here. I feel this so hard LOL.

and here i am never having any of these issues and actually finding trusts easier and less stressful than random players but then again i am a cautious player so my timings tend to match the trust AI's timings plus i observe my teams movements so i don't move back to a boss until i know they are about to so i don't drop shit in the path of a trust member.

@@naturelass not me, I like to stress my Trusts out and push their limits. If you can force your Trust into huge pulls and either juggle your cooldowns as a tank, or heal the party through it as a healer while those dummies single target each mob one-by-one... You will NEVER have an issue tanking or healing anything the duty finder can throw at you. I sent a screenshot of me, Urianger and Thancred passed out from aether sickness in Thavnair to my friend, titled "me and the boys after wall-to-wall pulling Mt. Gulg" muahahaha!

xeno moved half a second too soon so he dropped it in her path the fact is the AI has specific timings an he was moving before the AI determined it was safe to move so as far as it is concerned any decent player would not have moved when he did have to remember the AI's are programed to behave like newer players who are less confient about timings so they are more cautious once they "learn" the mechanics such as moving earlier than experienced players would to avoid stuff and not moving back to a boss until they are 100% sure it won't drop near the boss like xeno dropped his.

It's worth pointing out, the crystal's original bearer was Emet, not Azem. So those words Venat said to you were apparently something Emet said. Because these convocation crystals were made by Emet as a tool to try and restore the convocation based on what was remembered of them. It's how they awakened shards and raised them to seats. (For example Fandaniel's crystal was used to raise Amon to the seat of Fandaniel and awaken his memories.) Unless they retconned 5.3, the original convocation members would have all been sundered before they were made. I don't believe they ever tried to raise an Azem as an Ascian because they were ideologically incompatible (Or they were already in conflict with a version of us in whatever era), the original version of us refused to help summon Zodiark after all.

Emet made the crystal for azem, with azems magick in it. So i dont think its so cut and dry that "the original bearer" is emet. They didnt try to raise an azem, because emet kept the crystal a secret from the others, to my knowledge

Really disliked this part. Lots of parts of endwalker were flawed, good on paper but bad in execution. How is it even a thing that no one of the scions questions if/why they should kill Hydaelyn? All these years she has been this godly figure, hell even the planet was named after her before they retconned it. And now they enter a final fight against her saying cringy lines like "let's give them a show"? I understand that this is the moment in time when she decides to return to the planet but this isn't even mentioned here... I can't be the only one feeling like this could have been handled way better.

Wait.. I dont get it, you yourself understand that Venat chose to return to the planet after the fight and you, like the scions, already knows that Hydaelyn is not really a god, but a Primal. Also Alisaie says "No this cant be happening" when she notices that Venat is returning to the star just to make sure for those who didnt notice that the scions didnt planned to kill Hydaelyn. They respect/overrate our inteligence to remember info and not wate time recaping, like whe the WoL tells other scions of what he learned, they just skip with a black screen and we can assume that the WoL told everything that happend. Endwalker isnt perfect, but most of "could be handle better" arguments I see are about thinks we missed/forgot in the moment. I myself hated the teleport device in the end, and thought it was a "deus ex machina" moment until I saw Savix "endwalker" video and by the meme montage I was able to understand that Zenos wanted/hoped for his first/best friend to live, and since they were on a place with a rich concentration of dynamo, his will made the device be teleported to there so the WoL could live. I still dont like that moment, but wasnt a "deus ex machina"/"bad execute moment", it was consistent with the rules even if i dont like it.

It wasnt a game problem, they didnt had a "bad execution", it was consistent with all the rules of "Ultima Tule. I didnt understand/payed attention and blamed the game for it.

Just to add to this conversation. the "give them a show" stuff is just the npcs mid combat dialogue. Not tied to the lore. the mid fight text boxes are tied to canon though.

I'm actually having trouble with Endwalker. Not for any of reasons one would think. But just from the sheer stupidity within it. It starts of strong. Then... moon rabbits... and I could feel my IQ tanking as I played through it. Then back to normal, and it seems it's going to redeem itself. Then time travel. Great, now we're playing Star Trek. Let's do the time warp again! Another IQ tank. Then back to normal, and possible redemption. Then, Sea of stars, here my IQ tanks again. Everything here is waiting for oblivion, but here have some quests. Talk about stupid. I haven't made it through Sea of Stars because of this. As to where to go after this story. Well, you have a space ship now. So.. pick a planet out there. Or perhaps the the remaining shards like the first. 10 and 3, seven fallen. 13 - 7 = 6. Subtract the First and, you know have 5 left to use.

(THE SEA OF STARS PART OF THIS REPLY IS PRETTY SPOILERY, SO NO READ IF YOU CARE ABOUT THAT PLEASE) Personally, I didn't have too big of an issue with the Loporits. I mean, I think it'd be a bit better if they changed that part a little bit, but I think they added them in as a small, light hearted break from the very serious, world ending story. So, I guess that's all just down to personal taste. But, I do actually get what you mean, mentioning the Sea of Stars. For the most part, I thought the questing there was alright, because it's trying to make you understand with more depth, the reasons for Metion's answer to Herme's question. But they definitely could've handled it so much smoother.. It kind of drags on just a little bit too long, in the middle of Sea of Stars. And, the character deaths... Hooboi, those were so badly executed imo. They played it off so dramatically, and made it seem like they wanted us to be sad about it... And sure, for the first one (Thancred), I almost believed it... But then they were handing out character deaths like Oprah giving out free shit. It just became so blatantly obvious that it was all just fakeouts, and I really didn't enjoy that, too much. The last fakeout did make me a little emotional, but not because of the "death", but because of the dialogue and ideals brought into it. However... The payoff of the Sea of Stars... The full on ending of the game. THAT had me hooked and hyped out the wazoo lol just wish Sea of Stars was a bit better. So, I definitely understand you on that front

Mainly aiming to use chocobokeeps and airships. I even bounced from Famfrit on Primal to Sargatanas on Aether for it. And have a copy on Crystal as well.

It sounds like more an issue of personal taste. I actually enjoyed the levity that the Loporrits brought to such a heavy story, especially since they appeared right after Garlemald, and right before Thavnair pt 2, both incredibly bleak. I have to think that was by design. That's me, though. You have just as much right to dislike it as I do to enjoy it. It is what it is.

@@natebroadus8474 Don't get me wrong. The story is good. Just some of the elements aren't. Like the time travel. Had it not been for the MIB style mind wipe, after the time travel. You would have changed history. I know people are touting it as the best. But, yeah, in my opinion, looking at all the elements of it. I'd have to rate it as the worst. Granted the Trust system also annoys me. I get it from a story point of view. But, it effectively makes FFXIV a single player game, instead of an MMO.
