I love Amaurot's reveal so much. The music, at the time, already felt so nostalgic. It's as if we were where we were supposed to be and I guess knowing what we learned about the WoL the relationship the WoL has with the Ascians in the post 5.0 patch MSQ and Endwalker... That feeling was right.

Man, I never get over Emet's expression just before he swipes Alisaie aside. How he looks on at her attempts to break through his barrier as if he wants her to pierce it and he simply seems so sad that she is truly powerless against him, just underlining his point and rubbing it in his face that he is right about the difference in strength between himself and the sundered people of the Source.

Even without knowing its implications by the time 5.0 came out 5 years ago, I felt like Emet-Selch was entrusting everything to our hero before he passed. It became more impactful after finishing Endwalker and tying things up together. Boy, he endured so much all this time

I know it was said by chat, but I'm always crushed by the tiny detail in Emet's final moments atop the ruins of Amaurot, he's no longer hunched over; he's standing straight. The burden he's carried for millennia has finally been lifted off of his shoulders. He can finally rest now that there's someone else he can trust to carry on the legacy and memories of his people. Just perfect visual storytelling.

Everything in this Amaurot was made in Emet’s image so the fact that the Ancients dote on you like lost children isn’t how they would have perceived you in life but rather how Emet truly views you and the rest of mankind breaks my heart. It’s mentioned in passing so many times in the MSQ but Emet really did try to love us. He tried to live among us and held out hope for us for so long but ultimately never felt at home because he was constantly reminded of what could have been and what once was.

I think he let us win in the end, though. With all the powers at his beck and call, I think that final image, seeing his lost loved one in us finally took it out of him. He had to be sure, but I think his swan song was his final words, he passed the torch. Happy at long last

Something I REALLY loved about Hades was his trial card not having a title attached to it. Every Trial boss had their name and some title/feat associated with them. Like leviathan was "lord of the whorl." Hades just had his name. It totally discarded the titles and pretense: this was a fight between a world forgotten and an adventurer fighting or the next day of the present world.

Best FF villain, or best FF villain, is Emet? I played this part over a year ago and I'm still not over it. We had no choice but to crush his most desperate wish and that of a whole civilization, which anyone would naturally share, to see everyone again. Oof. I noticed his hunched posture as well. "Remember us" might be the two most powerful words in FF history. And EW followed up the story as perfect as could possibly be, enhanced it beyond expectations.

For me, the turning point of the entire story is the conversation with Hythlodaeus. That's the moment the Ascians transform from "evil black robe dudes cackling in the background" to one of the more tragic stories I've heard in fiction, and the entire backstory of the setting begins to fall into place.

Emet is one of the best examples of a sympathetic villain. What he is doing is evil, repressible, and deeply personal. He attacks your friends, your worlds, and tries to tear apart every life across multiple universes, for his people's desires. And yet, so many people are sympathetic to his story. They see him not as an irredeemable villain, but as a broken hero who - to quote a great series - in the effort to do great, failed to do good.
