Gowda food is such a vibe seriously. Growing up in a Gowda household this food was our gateway to heaven amongst all the ups and downs in life. And today when I look back there is no other cuisine I enjoy the most, that I cook it everyday (P.S Gowda food is not just non-vegetarian food, we have bassaru, uppusaaru, moolangi uli, molake kattidha saaru, thambittu and so much more) And Kripal sir and Ashish sir were such a cool DUO

But Gowda is not a caste, it’s a designation. Most of them confuse Gowda as Vokkaligas. There are Kuruba Gowda, Kumbara Gowda , Gowda Saraswath Brahmin even Lingayat Gowda. Just like Heggade in Malenadu region. (Eg - Siddarta Heggade was Vokkaliga, Veerendra Heggade is Jain and Ananth Kumar Heggade is Brahmin). So when they say Gowda food it ‘might be’ restricted to some dishes surely not for Veg because Molake Saaru and Tambittu are typical south Karnataka foods.

In Uttar Pradesh we call the calf/shin bone part as 'Kareli'. The word is used to distinguish it from the fore leg which is called 'Dast'. Only traditional meat eaters in Hindi belt know this terminology. Nice to hear that the Gowdas use almost the same terminology as us in the North. Love from Lucknow.
