Every time I see your videos with locals I smile! The guy at 7:40 cracked me up 😂. For context, he was suggesting tishreeb (stew and meat with pita to be eaten with hands), dijaj (chicken), simech (fish), pacha (head of cow/lamb), he proceeded to say we put it murgah (stew). Love how he grabbed you close and was like "walk with me to the city, we will eat!"

@12:31-12:32 that’s actually Al-Abbas ibn Ali (العباس بن علي) Imam Hussein’s paternal half-brother, who was also killed along with his brother during the same battle in what is today Karbala, and his shrine lays opposite to that of his half-brother Imam Hussein.

when you were talking about the rings, at 20:20 they said it was 'asli' - means original or genuine (i.e by good or bad I think they meant real gem stones vs imitation), they didn't say much in arabic (and I don't know anything about gem stones and jewelry anyway) but seemed after that they were pointing to the properties of such gem stones. the one you picked up is Indian citrine.

I always loved no matter how hot it was the locals would always offer us tea. It was always very good and very sweet. They were very hospitable to us despite the circumstances at the time. Did you by chance ever get to try their juice? I remember my favorite drinks they would offer was some sort of canned juice and at the bottom of the can was a real piece of fruit. Very good. I spent 7 months there during the war.

Dear Yves, your family in Iraq, the country of history and ancient civilizations, I would like to tell you an important piece of information for the police and the army in the case of photography, there are no military orders to prevent photography. There are places like holy shrines that can be forbidden to photograph in the camera except with official permission but on the phone it is very normal welcome to Iraq
