Part of me thought they would go the Disney face character route, but this kinda just makes more sense logistically. They would have to audition and screen girls who look like Peach, and they would probably deal with creepers as well. This mascot route makes it so that anyone can dress and act the role, and the voice lines keep things from going too off course. And it's cohesive with the other mascots.

Then again, Fiona from Shrek did make her appearance in the park in her human form rather in her ogre form. But in Singapore, she sometimes change between her Human form and Ogress form for Meet and Greet sessions with guests.

I can't tell if Toad is a bipedal animatronic or if they actually just stuffed a child in a costume. Either way it's so derpy I love it! Edit: I think it's a small person who has access to a mechanism to move the arms. That will explain why toads movements are like someone in a costume, and why the arms look robotic.

Yeah I don't think its a child, but I don't think its a small person either. My first thought was that it was similar to a few Kirby designed costumes where it was was a small or smaller person, but Toad's size is much smaller then most Kirby's costumes I don't think that's the case. My guess is Toad is part animatronic or puppet animatronic where it is still a human inside controlling it, but the person is more on their knees and Toad's arm movements are controlled by a rig or possibly someone near by. It's not actually a smaller person, but a person more or less walking with their knees or using their hands to walk...which still sucks.

Toad has similar structure to old Disneyland costumes: the arms are rods, the head is up in the top part of the head, and not the actual head itself.

These are incredible. Universal easily could have just gone with simple mascot costumes, but they went above and beyond with speech, blinking, mouth movements, and even getting Toad’s height accurate. I hope more are to come. Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Wario would be amazing to see. Can’t wait for Orlando’s version.

I am glad that Universal choose to have a meet greet where you can talk to the characters and they can respond. I don't think Mario and Luigi do, probably seeing that even in the Japanese versions, their voicelines are mostly the same Italian voice they always have. Peach however might have or get a Japanese mode.
