This is one of MANY positive adoption stories out there and I hope it helps inspire my fellow adoptees to stay strong in your search. I found my birth mother 10 years ago and it took me another decade before I was able to find my birth father. It is not always an easy journey, but today it's a thousand times more likely that your dreams will come true than ever before thanks to DNA testing.
I sent my DNA off to both 23andMe and Ancestry to find my birth father with ZERO information about him. If you're interested, you can get your own DNA kit here (my special referral links):
♥ 23andMe DNA Kit: refer.23andme.com/s/michellecehn
♥ Ancestry DNA Kit: refer.dna.ancestry.com/s/miche...
You just spit in a tube, mail it in, and in a few weeks you'll get your results and instantly be connected to hundreds or even thousands of family members (distant cousins and beyond). If you're lucky, you might get some close and very helpful matches! For me, one day a 1st cousin match popped up and I was able to figure it out from there. And if not, you'll still learn a lot about yourself and where you come from geographically.
I also want to share that my entire experience as an adopted child has been amazing. I always knew I was adopted, and loved that unique little fact about myself. I truly have the best parents in the world and I'm so grateful for the path I got to go down in my life because my birth mother had the courage to do what was best for me.
I grew up not knowing a single person who was related to me by blood. I had a single photograph of my birth mother and her name, and zero information about my biological father, who never knew I was born. I have always had a hunger to know my birth parents, and ever since I was a little girl I wondered if I might have siblings somewhere out there.
It's crazy that now, just a few weeks after I wasn't sure if I'd ever find my biological father, I have met, hugged, and hung out with nearly my entire blood family. I know that as an adopted child, knowing your birth family is not something you take for granted. If you get even a glimpse of where you came from, you are incredibly lucky. So right now, I feel like the luckiest person in the world.
To my mom, my dad, my birth parents, and my entire huge ever-growing family, I love you to pieces and can't wait for all the adventures that lie ahead.
And to all the adoptees, parents of adopted kiddos, and birthparents watching, don't hesitate to reach out if you need support. I'm here for you!
♡ Michelle Cehn
P.S. If you're moved by this story, please share it, especially if you know anyone who is adopted, has an adopted child, or had discovered a new relative in their life: michellecehn.com/adoption

UPDATE: It's with the deepest heartbreak that I share that my birth father (b'pa) Greg Hicks passed away suddenly, and unexpectedly in November, 2019. Just a few months before the birth of his grandson. We had the most intense, incredible, connected two years together and could not have made more of every moment we had together since connecting. I put together a memorial video in case you want to see all that adoption reunions can be: • My Birth Father Memori...

Your story sounds virtually identical to mine except I left it too late to meet my mum as she died in 2014 and I started searching in 2016. I was so heartbroken. She would never say who my father was and I don't have any details at all. Through searching Facebook I managed to track down my second cousin and other family members which was amazing but I would love to know who my father is. Watching this has really made me so sure I want to do a dna test. I need to know before it's too late. I also have two half brothers somewhere in the world. Thank you for sharing your story xx

But after searching for all these years I found her 4 months ago, and we talk every day. I so happy you found your birth family. My hope is that you and all your family enjoy the many years to come. But after chatting all week and then talking with her mother I couldn't be more excited! She reminds me so much of you with her attitude towards everything that's about to happen. I meet her tomorrow for the first time and I haven't slept a good night since this started. The instant love I feel for a child I've yet to meet in person can't be put into words! Your story made me tear up! About 25 years ago when I was only 14 my half brother reached out to our family looking for my mom and it was such a blessing! Unfortunately his biological dad wanted nothing to do with him, but when he found my mom she was beyond loving and welcoming to him. My mom was only 16 when she had him and so was forced by her parents to give him up. He grew up as an only child with his adoptive parents and when he found my mom he learned that he had 4 half siblings. I love him to death and am so thankful he took the risk to search for my mom, especially after being rejected by his dad. I'm so happy you had such an amazing reunion Michelle!

That's a great story that you have! I just reunited with my daughter a couple years ago. My girlfriend and I, who were both VERY young at the time and were nowhere near ready to be parents, made the decision to give her up for adoption. I had already enlisted in the military and couldn't back out when my girlfriend found out she was pregnant 26 years ago. But after speaking to her by text, we spoke thru FaceTime and had a great conversation and then met face to face at a nice restaurant and I was just floored, she was so beautiful, polite and well spoken she just melted my heart and I think I spent most of the meeting watching her mannerisms and looking at her hands and hair and face which may sound weird but I just wanted to know she was healthy and had all her fingers and toes 😆. There we're deff lots of similarities and we were very much both on the same frequency on just about everything. She was just............wonderful and I had this incredible feeling of just being so blessed and lucky and overwhelmed that this little girl that I had loved and thought about nonstop for 23 years was now sitting in front of me and that I can simply pick up my cellphone and text her and talk to her after spending so many years hoping and praying that she was healthy, fed, warm and in a good place with a good family which she absolutely was, her adoptive family is awesome. Again, the overriding feeling was one of incredible gratitude and that I had been given a gift from the heavens.

What a blessing for you to find your father 💜I was adopted at age seven on Okinawa. I had excepted that I would probably never know who my father is. I miraculously reunited with my mama in 1990 but lost contact in 1999 later to find her through Facebook in 2017 .People heard about my mama and started searching all over Asia . I live in Kentucky. She was in a government sponsored nursing home because the family had disowned her and she practically became homeless. My blood pressure sky rocketed to 200 over 100 and I wasn't able to travel to Okinawa before she passed 💔 I took a DNA test with 23 and Me and much to my surprise I was able to find a first cousin/close relative on my fathers side and I texted him. Told him my story and was wondering who in his family was stationed or on Okinawa in 1957 since I was born in 1958. My cousin seems not interested in helping me in my search for my father. I was able to find out that my fathers side of the family is congregated around Indiana, Ohio and wouldn't know.....KENTUCKY....where I've been for the past 41 years. I cried and cried when I saw your KZbin video, reunion with your dad💜Someday maybe....just maybe 🙏Bless you and your family 👪 I know that missing your father and wishing.........

I cried tears of joy watching this video! Thank YOU. I have a beautiful granddaughter somewhere, and I hope she will find us. Her story is a bit like yours. My son is her birth father and her birth mother was a beautiful and precious girl. They were still in High School when she was born. I was there at the hospital with them and I got to see her and have a little time alone with her. I was able to hold her little hand and tell her how much I would always love her. By God's amazing Grace, she was able to go home with her adoptive parents straight from the hospital. I know my son wants to meet her someday. I pray they will have such a wonderful reunion as you have had. BTW, the kids gave her adoptive parents a photo of them together, and she will have their names as well.

I understand why you let this Baby go to a better home (we were all told that) but don't count on her having been told any part of the story by her adoptive parents - because we (350,000 original MOthers) in Canada were virtually all told that our Babies would come to know the truth - and guess what??? Not a one of us that I know about was - come time to tell the Child anything about us - and out comes all kinds of stuff that has nothing to do with any of it - Hang tight - and hope for the best, but you can be fairly sure that whatever they promised you did not happen

@janetmackenzie-cohen5142 5 жыл бұрын
Best you know that all of us (I'm a Mother) were told that our Babies would have a much better life and a University Education and piano and ballet lessons (long list here) and that it would be selfish for us not to give our Babies a head start in life by giving them to a family who would cherish and pamper them - and Mother's today who are giving their Babies to adoption are still told the same lines -
@janetmackenzie-cohen5142
@janetmackenzie-cohen5142 5 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything you say here, and also remember that the lines some Mothers are told about "doing what is best for the Baby" meaning a 2 parent rich family and all the luxuries of the good life (which is nonsense of course) but how is a young and desperate teenaged Mom supposed to sort that all out ??? You are so lucky that your Mom stayed behind you - because a lot of them do not!!!

CONRATS Michelle!!! I can’t believe how much I cried watching this video, lol. You are truly blessed to find your parents and such loving relatives.🤗🤗🤗 SN: Austin is your BROTHER(not half). When I was a child I would always introduce my brother as my half-brother as that’s what most people did, he was my father’s son not my mother’s. One day my mother sat my brother and I down and she asked me which HALF of him was my brother. I was puzzled and confused to say the least. She told me that ALL of him was my brother and from that day on he’s always been my BROTHER.🤗🤗🤗

Sofia Calista So what if people are confused! I’d rather they be confused than to hurt my brothers feelings! My dad raised me since the ripe age of 18! He’s always referred to me as his daughter and I as my dad...because, he IS my dad, and not ONE person has ever questioned that fact!

I have to completely agree with Tonie Joellen on this Michelle. Never refer to him as your half-brother' my sweet, he is you BROTHER! I have children from a first and second marriage, and I have brought them up to be full siblings. "Half" does not exisit as far as we are concerned! One day my little boy of seven came home from school crying because one of his teachers kindly explained to him that his new sister Jessica was not a "full sister" but a "half-sister". I went to the school and explained to this idiot not to butt into family matters. They still all share this closeness to this day. Genetics is only "half' the story, the rest is LOVE

I always thought my mother was a long haired hippy type ... I was right ...and as for my father we are twins 18 years apart ! lol They met in school and my mother played trumpet in the band and french horn in the orchestra and my father played saxophone .... in high school I started music on trumpet, then switched to sax and took french horn as my second instrument ! my mother went to the same summer camp as I did ! My father and I sang in the same church Christmas choir in grade school with the same Grade 6 teacher 18 years apart ... and I have a brother and sister ten years younger that are twins !! I am so happy to see you video of finding your Birth Father ! I too am an adoptee, but much older ! 19 months ago I found my biological family! I had just turned 60 !! Yes...60 ! All my life I've wanted the same as you, those missing pieces. I've searched since I was 18 years old with the blessings of my Momma and Daddy that loved me unconditionally. But, I hit wall after wall. No names, no photos, just my name before it was changed after adoption. So, like you, I did DNA test. My top match happened to be my Uncle. At that point I wasn't sure if it was Father or Mothers. Until I received a message back from him and we talked. Fortunately he was one of 4 brothers and knew instantly which of his brothers was my Father ! My Father knew nothing about me. But...he did as your Father did. Asked questions, verified info I had by then found about my Birth Mother. Long story short, I was finally held in the arms of my 85 year old Poppa !! I have 4 half siblings from his side. All welcomed me with open arms ! Unfortunately my Mother had passed 3 years prior. But I tracked down cousin's who also did DNA testing to confirm. I have since spent time with my Mother's family. My Grandmother was one of 15 ! So you do the math how many cousin's, Aunts,Uncles etc that I have !! I also have 2 half siblings from her side! I have been forever changed and forever grateful! To those looking on either side of the adoption spectrum.... don't give up !!!!

How are your adoptive parents doing and feeling about all of this? As an adoptive parent, please know, although we say we're okay. We're not. A part of us is dying and feel as if we are losing our baby. You are our whole world. It's very hard to accept that we aren't yours. We are truly happy for you and want this for you. We are also grieving a little and fear that we will lose you. Please. Reassure them that you love them and how important they are. Just a little will go a long way. Congratulations. We are not even the same skin colour but we are so alike in expressions and mannerisms it’s incredible! If one day he would like to try and find his “tummy mummy” I will help him even though my heart will be in pieces , if it will be important to him that’s what matters. We don’t have any information at all on the tummy mummy and we live in Thailand so using a dna kit would not be an option. For now he is not at all interested about his past but that might change. I’m also very happy for Michelle that her reunion turned out so well, as it’s not always the case.

Chloe has no desire, right now, to have any contact with them. I get it. Maybe someday her heart will change and she'll be open to meeting them. As an adoptive parent, I would love to see that closure for Chloe. She's an amazing young lady!
