As Stace mentioned in the vlog, getting a puppy is like a life long dream for her. We’ve both been around dogs a lot but neither of us have ever actually found a breeder and got a puppy of our own, so we’re beyond excited to introduce Nalu to our world.
Nalu is a cavoodle, which is a cavalier king charles spaniel mixed with a toy poodle (or mini poodle, we think they’re the same thing?) - creating this beautiful caramel/caramilk looking dude. They’re tiny puppies and he won’t grow too big when he’s a full size dog either, maybe around 6-8 kilograms / 12-18 pound.
In this vlog we want to introduce you to Nalu and share some of what goes into actually picking up a new puppy, brining them home for that first night and adjusting to all these funny little things you thought would be perfect. We’re so in love with this lil dood already and can’t wait to watch him grow!

Been a breeder of dogs, here is a few tips . . . Playing soft gentle music he should settle down very quickly. If you have a tick tock clock, put that in his bed, that will also settle him at night. Take him outside every couple of hours to get him used to peeing outside on the grass. Never too young to house train them. if you allow him to pee inside make sure you clean the spots well otherwise he will always go back there. Leave him outside until he does it. Remember he has to learn to live with you rather than him being the top dog in the home. He has to learn how to spend time on his own, so use the soft music to calm him. Also stop jumping to his every whim. I know its hard but what you do now, is how he will turn out as an adult. Boundaries from an early age makes life a whole lot easier. Also play time when time fits in with your routine. I call it training time. learning to walk on a leash or having something around his neck, or teaching him to fetch his toys. A warning . . . Do not let him jump down from any height until he is at least a year old, to do so can cause elbows and shoulder problems.

Training takes time and patience. Especially the last 2 lol Congrats and say goodbye to carpets and chewable things. Especially important cables I would recommend getting all power/cables as high as possible to stop the puppy chewing on them.

I was clucky for a puppy for about 5 minutes but then realised bringing a puppy home for the first night is not unlike bringing a baby home for the first time, and I’ve done those sleepless nights already 3 times😂. Lol, welcome to what every puppy owner experiences with the good intentions vs survival mode. When we got out puppy, it was the beginning of winter (big mistake) and we were having to take her out at least every two hours in the snow and sleet. Miserable for all. But so worth it. May nalu have an incredibly long and healthy life with you two!

HAPPY DAYS.... When you take him out for a pee. Stand by the back door and say "Peepee out side." That way he will be trained to go to the door when he has to go. When he goes outside always give him a treat. Always go out the same door.. Cheers and best wishes from Ray Canada.

With the puppy kong - Id suggest filling it with just kibble to begin with, this way he can learn that rolling it around and moving it rewards him with the kibble falling out! Once he gets used to the idea that the kong = treats & fun, you can make it harder for him by using the peanut butter!

You are so welcome! You're going to love him, they are THE most beautiful dogs and so cuddly. One recommendation is you HAVE to train them to be alone from a young age, don't let them get attached or too dependent on you leading to anxiety

Whst a beautiful bubba. You both look so happy. I had to giggle when you said we thought it would be this way and it all went out the window. 31 years ago I was pregnant with my son. Thought I would have time to cook lovely meals, bake etc. Oh how wrong I was. A good day I got out of my pjs for a while. We didnt eat at the same time for months. One would hold. One would get dinner straight out of the pot nice and hot. Like Nalu he was a crier. Who am I kidding. He was a bloody screamer. Lol. Turns 31 in a few days. Still remember like it was yesterday. He will settle very quickly. Puppies do.

Hey guys. I don't know how big your dog already is as I'm writing this, but one thing you can do to make him understand the place where he will pee/poo, is to make like a trail of those pee carpets. You set them apart at some distance, directing him outside for example. When he gets a little bigger he will be able to hold longer, so you start to put only one or two carpets, and then start moving each day closer to the place you want. You can give some treats when he gets it right. At least that's what worked for my dog when he was puppy. The vet said at the time that dogs like to do their needs at soft surfaces. We don't live in a carpeted place like yours, but my dog peed a lot on the bathroom carpets over here, and even on his own bed a few times. But they get it after some time. This sounds crazy, but I think we own Nalu’s sister (same litter) and also her half brother from an earlier litter. Is Nalu’s mum called Bonnie? A ruby red cavalier King Charles? If true, then we are also good friends with the owner of another sister of Nalu (again, same litter) called ‘Luna’. (I know, same letters in the name as Nalu) We, like yourselves, are all based in Auckland and bought our 2 Cavoodles from a breeder in Tauranga, near Omokoroa around the same time. Too many similarities to be a coincidence?

Some commercial brands of peanut butter may also contain trans fats, and added salt, which should be avoided.
