Meeting Tiger Woods - NEVER Been This Nervous

When Erik Anders Lang met Tiger Woods he had no idea how nervous he would be. Sweaty palms and all, Erik asks Tiger Woods for a photo and they even share a brief chat about watches - specifically his Rolex DeepSea and Erik then tells the story of Tiger's Tudor Watch Partnership and the Tudor Prince Chronograph with the red letters spelling TIGER on the dial.
Erik became curious about Tiger Woods' watch when he interviewed Ben Clymer, CEO of Hodinkee, and they discussed whether Tiger's watch was a stock watch or customized. Rumor has it that it was a special watch - but Tiger denies that claim in this interaction. After Tiger and I said our goodbyes, our photographer Simon showed me his digital watch with heart rate monitor - it had a warning that said "Unusual Heart Rate Detected". It was at 130! I think we were all just as nervous....

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I caddy for my 10 year old son in his US Kids tournaments, and during the winter season this year, we got paired up with Charlie Woods for an event. Tiger showed up to caddy as well. I could not have been more nervous, because I did not want to be a creepy stalker, or bother him while he was there with his own son. Tiger could not have been more polite and encouraging to all three boys. But I was a nervous wreck the entire time, wishing I had something clever and new to say to engage in a conversation, but never finding the right thing. Instead, at the end of the round, he shook hands with the other two boys, the two dads/caddies, and thanked us for the round. He politely refused a picture with the kids, but I can understand as there were a lot of spectators around and Charlie did not have his best day.

He has a lot of talent and can really bomb the ball for his size (funny side note, he crushed a 260 yard drive on the 8th hole, and as we waited for the group in front of us to clear the green, I noted the awesome drive--Tiger peered back at me and with a wry smile said "yeah, but it was down-wind and got a big hop forward"--tough crowd I guess :) .). Like most kids, including my son, there are good days and not-so-good days. That day, 2 holes messed up his score. Unfortunately for Charlie, and my son as well, the 10-year old age group in this area is stacked with REALLY great players, so winning requires you to be nearly perfect over the entire round.

Great story David! I'm sure that is a round of golf with your son that you both will never forget. I actually can picture TW being very quiet the whole round and being intensely involved with his son's progression. Imagine being in Charlie's shoes???

@@2cardarsenal310 You are absolutely correct, Tiger was quiet and only focused on Charlie's event. He made sure this was about Charlie, not himself. He was laser-focused, calm, and ever-present. The one thing that stuck with me is what he would say to Charlie the few times he hit a wayward shot. He was quietly, and directly say: "reset". Whenever tournament golf resumes for my son, I'm using that should he ever dwell on a bad shot or missed putt. Always, "reset" and move forward.

In 2003, I was 5 years old, and had been in remission from Leukemia for a almost 2 years. Through the Make-A-Wish foundation , my family and I flew to Florida I got a private lesson on a driving range from Tiger Woods. He met me and my family along with his Nike team, and knew all of our names upon arrival. We hit balls for a half hour or so; and took many photos. He won a major the following weekend. He is the GOAT!

Most of you won't believe me but I won a Nike golf competition to enter in I had to buy the new Nike dymo driver at the time, put the code that was on the drive along with my details to enter.I got picked the winner and was taken to Dubai stayed there for a week, played two holes with Tiger Woods on the fado course, stayed in a fancy hotel and played a full round round at the montgomerie Dubai all paid for by Nike golf. To this day it's one of the best days of my life he's a funny chilled out guy

OK. So I coached an age group swim team for twenty plus years. The kids would grow up, go to college and eventually get jobs. Winters in PA. are pretty bad. The kids that found work, where it was warm, would send me photos of the beach, the pool, anywhere warm. I started the "I hate you" list. They started competing sending pictures of beautiful sunsets, beers on the beach, Disney in winter. All to get the top spot on list. Well EAL, even though I've never coached you...You sir, now occupy the top of the "I hate you" list! Hehehe

You are a lucky man, it does help to have a bit of an in with Taylor Made, but I would be shaking in my boots. I've followed him since his amateur days, and to me, when he is playing, I have to watch, and compare it to when MJ was playing, and on TV, I had to watch, you just know something special could happen. great video.. congrats. Met Tiger when he was five years old. I was a golf starter at a par 3 golf course in Long Beach Ca. called Heartwell Golf Park. Tigers mom came to my window and asked if her son could play. I had to look out the window and I saw this little kid with a small bag of clubs. I told the mom that minimum age to play was 9 years old with an adult. Tigers mom said that he hits balls with his father, but would like to play. I introduced her to the golf pro Rudy Duran. Rudy said let’s take your son to the range and let’s see how he does. Ten minutes later Rudy came back and said he will be on the course with this kid. In around an hour and a half, Rudy gave Tigers mom his card and said he would like to give him lessons. Once Tiger and his mother left Rudy turned to me and said he just met a five year old with a PERFECT SWING😄 Rudy Duran became Tiger Woods first teaching pro.True story👍🏼

Erik Anders Lang , and he never calls😄😄😄 Of course who knew, but he used to shoot even par at around six years old on this course. The old TV show “ That’s Incredible” came out and shot a segment with Tiger hitting full shots, chip shots and putting. We thought it was cool, but back then we just thought how neat for this cute little kid. So it’s a great “ One up story” at the 19th hole😁

When i volunteered at deustchebank championship in boston. I was a standard bearer with his group. I was as nervous as you were. Shaking his hand and talking with him. The aura around him is crazy. When i was younger like 12 or 13 going back maying 15 16 years he hit his ball ob and asked if it was playable. Its was crazy i think met him 3 or 4 times.
