Thanks to a generous donation from the McAllen Education Foundation, students in the McAllen ISD STRIDES Program are enjoying learning outdoors! This realistic learning environment is for the STRIDES Home Improvement class. It includes a washing station where students can clean what is harvested in the on-campus garden. It's a great learning experience for the students.
The McAllen ISD STRIDES Program is a special education initiative for students who are 18-22 years old. It stands for Supported Transition and Road to Independence: Development and Employment for Students. STRIDES students receive guidance and instruction toward independent living, can earn a professional certification and take courses that provide them with employment skills. Begun in 2019, the program has partnered with South Texas College and Texas Workforce Solutions. To learn more, call 956-632-3285.
