After watching this for the umpteenth time I realised you can use Shift + Left/Right while playing to move the loop section over the adiacent take. Had no idea, cool to learn something new. Didn't see this in the synthdawg manual, or maybe it was phrased differently. Many thanks!

I did shift+lift (lifting whole tracks) and just drop without shift, no merge tracks.
