Then if you haven’t already done so, I highly recommend checking out the top tier super in depth OP-1 tutorial series on the channel that was given a shoutout in this video, RED MEANS RECORDING. Each ep covers different functions/features & I haven’t come across anything more informative than that playlist. I’ve owned my op for about 2 years now & I’d consider myself pretty solid in terms of understanding/navigating within the device, but I always come back just to brush up because they’ve got a lot of amazing tips and tricks littered throughout. I can recommend more great channels as well if you’re really invested in taking a deep dive for finding some hidden gems. Just let me know.

Another great video Jack! The OP-1 has been on my wish list for a while now. And I appreciate you still taking the time to make content for older gear, like the OP-1 and the DeepMind 12. Just a thought for possible future content (on portable samplers) maybe you could do a basic comparisons/shootout between the OP-1 and the MPC live 2, since they are roughly around the same price, portable, with similar functionality, albeit achieved in very different ways. I want them both...but $$$ Thanks again!!

Hey, thanks for this video. I bought an OP-1 a few months ago and I didn't manage to get my head around it and actually do something with it until now.. It's really nice how you don't overcomplicate it and just show some functions you live. I'd love to see more of it! I especially like the recording voice option. Could you show more of that? Is it possible to record longer sections? And could you show a few more tricks on how to manipulate/twist the voice as well? THANK YOU SO MUCH

I've always wanted one. I owned a po33. It was fun, but I gave it to a friend and then I bought an sp404mk2. One thing I find fascinating about the op1 is the design and graphics. It looks like something from hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. I remember when it first came out. The first time I saw it was from that Swedish house mafia music video, in the intro I think it was Sebastian Ingrosso playing the op1 like an electric piano. I was like, wait, what the heck is that thing? I thought it was a custom made device only wealthy artists were allowed to have or something. A couple of years later, I went to IKEA and saw their frekvens line and it said made by teenage engineering. I was like, that sounds familiar, didn't they make that toy looking music box? So I looked deeper, and found out they make all sorts of stuff. Bought the pocket operator, been a fan ever since. They seemed to be the only company at the time that was trying to make something that made you want to make music with and something that was pleasing to the eye. Because most electronic music production devices, while they don't look terrible, they looked like tools and not art. The op1 is almost like a musical video game as well. The graphics, the rules, the way you can customize them, it's really a serious toy for musicians. That's the best way I can describe it.

Can the OP1 record an incoming audio signal directly onto one of the 4 tape recorder tracks and/or overdub your pre-recorded material? (Say, I hook up my hydrasynth or MDUW+) .. I know it can’t midi sync, just wondering how deep the sampling goes, max length of samples, etc. (I understand the max tape recorder length is just over 6 minutes?) ..
