The queens that waited so long to lay eggs give me hope. I have a queen that's well over a year and still looks healthy. She is a fully colostral species but I just keep feeding her.😊

Your collection is very impressive! 50 species is amazing! Melophorus bagoti would be so cool. Make sure to get a powerful heat cable! #5 is Pheidole megacephala. Invasive, so don't release them, but the cool thing about them is queens and males from the same colony can mate! #10 is a Crematogaster sp. #16 is Colobopsis gasseri #33 is actually Camponotus nigriceps #35 - Advice: Just release them. You don't want to risk them attacking other colonies. #37 - More advice: Meat ants dig quite deep nests, so a naturalistic setup might not be the best for them. You could try though, they'd probably adapt fine.

Hey there TheAntKeeper! I know of the ID of a few of your ants. I will list them below for you. 2. Camponotus humilior 4. Ochetellus glaber 9. Papyrius nitidus or Iridomyrmex discors. BOTH are parasitic queens and need BROOD and workers/cocoons to get going or they will die. 11. Polyrhachis ammon worker. Not a queen unfortunately. 16. looks like Colobopsis sp. 31. looks like Polyrhachis vermiculosa or Polyrhachis aurea 39. looks like Polyrhachis vermiculosa or Polyrhachis aurea 49. Myrmecia fulvipes

It’s definitely too late now but the Polyrhachis ant is a work not a queen. It’s really hard to tell with P. ammon but the biggest differentiating factor is that queens won’t have as a very boxy top to the thorax.

Idk if you’ll answer this, but I have a question. I just got a rather developed big headed ant colony yesterday. I have found that my ants do not explore a lot, and I have only seen 4-5 ants out at most in their out world. They also have only occupied one chamber in their nest and there are quite a lot of them - probably around 50-100. I am rather confused, as all of your ants, and most of the other ant youtuber’s ants are very curious and explore their entire nest and outworld.

I was thinking that #2 looks a bit like C.irritans, but my knowledge of Australia ants isn't that good. Also, #4 lacks the heart shaped gaster that crematogaster usually posses. That species looks more like monomorium or iridomyrmex. At least here, it is common for colonies of monomorium to be shallow nesting in wood. Often times, some monomorium have so many queens and can inbreed. #16 is also probably colobopsis sp. For the colony that keeps escaping, maybe you can put some Vaseline as a barrier. It's working for me. Thanks for showing off all you colonies! Congrats on all the subscribers.
