This is by far my favorite port of the game primarily because of the unforgettable music score. -

I never knew the backstory of the game, that it was a malfunctioned training program for the people of the future, since they were people of peace. Didn't find that out until recently, a few years ago. Made the "modern" levels make a whole lot more sense.

Yea, this game had way more depth to it when I longplayed it compared to when I first stumbled over it on the Sega Channel back in the day.

Not necessarily. They wanted to cause a little ruckus because they were “too peaceful” (not my words). They created the system to fulfill their warmongering spirits, but they didn’t anticipate it backfiring.

I loved this game as a kid. I find it surprising that out of all the games from this era that have had reboots or sequels we have never seen this game get one. Please can someone bring Gain Ground into the 21st century!? Round 4 was such a pain in the ass!

Same. For some reason I was thinking his name was Webad. Maybe that's just what I called him. Lol. Definitely the best character. I remember the manual that came with the game had all the character names

Webad is his name in the US Genesis manual, and as listed on the original arcade bezel art. His original/cannon name, however, is Verbal, as seen in the game’s Japanese versions and in the PS2 remake. However, if you grew up in the EU with a Megadrive, or if you read the version of the manual that came with the Steam release, they named him “Erik” for some reason.

I like to play on Hard cuz you get all the characters to start with. The downside is you can only have one guy "down" on the field at a time and you cant gain anymore from the levels either.

Since this game was co-op it was a big hit in our house when I was a kid. The bowman (we used to call him "Thor") you can rescue on Round 1 Stage 2 is the most powerful character in the whole game.

This is a good game. I've got this game (s.w.a.t. and a couple of others) on a yellow controller that plugs straight in to the back of my computer, it even has a second controller that connects in to the back of the 1st controller allowing for 2 players. Technology is crazy in how far it's advanced, I remember playing games by loading them off a cassette tape, the good old Vic 20, a powerful beast of a thing with a 20k ram pack (without which it was only 4k haha). lol!!

I haven't stopped playing cassette games since the early 1980's. I got a TRS-80 Color Computer 2 in 1983 and all of the games still load. I play them regularly. Also my Commodore 64 tapes from 1988 still load fine. I think they lied to us about the longevity of cassettes. Keep them in a box away from magnetic sources and they're reliable.

I just recently beat this game for the first time last January, after picking it up again for the first time in about 15 years. I love this game. It's difficulty curve may be a bit sketchy at first and it can be frustrating enough to keep you going, but it's so satisfying.
