I had this back in the day and I really enjoyed it. It was hard as nails and I never finished it (I think I made it to Stage 13). Funny thing is that I rented the SNES version once to take to a friend's house, naturally assuming it was the same game. It was not.

Personally loved and preferred this version - the SNES version was, obvs, technically far superior in terms of graphics and music but there was a rawness to the Meg version that just kept you hooked on it. And the music was aceballs.

I love the utterly anticlimactic ending. *Freeze frame of Ripley * "It is done." Kind of wish this game ended with you throwing yourself into lava at the end. Not a cutscene, you would have to manually jump into the lava to win the game. I can dream.

I played Alien 3 on the Amiga, Mega Drive and SNES. I always felt that the sound and music were excellent on the Mega Drive and Amiga but graphically the SNES version was far more atmospheric.

Very good run 'n gun. Has that Mega Drive Arcade quality feel : high-res, fast paced, with efficient gameplay and a little scoring system. And the music is great! And again Mega Drive version > Amiga version (though in this case the Amiga version is good, far from some disasters such as Amiga OutRun for example...)

Amiga version was pretty good considering the hardware. One thing I find weird about the Amiga version is how the final credits are EXACTLY the same of this Mega-Drive version which damn sures make no sense since I am pretty sure Shaun Hollingworth wrote no "Music Driver" for the Amiga (Though I feel like 99% of European Mega-Drive games use his music driver with music made by Matt Furniss :D) Though not as bad as the Shaq Fu version of Amiga where the devs took the Mega-Drive title screen and didn't even bother to remove the "Licensed by Sega Enterprises" text.

Always loved the hive stage in this (#12). The music is so subdued and creepy (before the heroic theme kicks in, at least), and all the purple hive bits in the foreground gave the aliens that blended-with-the-environment quality that seems missing in the rest of the game. I'm surprised tho, I'd always remembered it as being the last stage. Hmph.

That pixel perfect jump at 41:58 is so nasty... yet so crucial because of the hostage. And you lose a lot of time everytime you need to return to it in case of a failure.

Does anyone here know about the jump glitch? There is a glitch in the game for fun, doesn't make any difference, but I found out a long time ago that if you jump as you leave the stage, Ripley will appear to walk on air. Try it, if you don't already know of it.

Loved this game as a kid, really eerie and bloody hard too. Only thing which sucked about it was you were too close to the front of the screen when running which made it easier to get hit by aliens. They should have zoomed it out a bit more.

I was never a fan of this game for some reason,maybe it was too dark for a younger snes colour saturated me but these days i prefer more and more sega games because they are more arcade twitchy,have more raw audio like 80s arcades and have a much more difficult challenge that unlike fairness of some games is more like stratagy. This game has great audio,graphics,gameplay and challenge,i would say batman returns on genesis is much the same,just need to look at it the right way and take it for what it is

The problem with this game is that the difficulty level is really bonkers and the time limit is insanely tight. You *need* to know the levels layout or you won't stand a chance of beating them before time runs out.

I have always wondered why they did not just make the game purely centered around Aliens? Instead Aliens with the backdrop of Alien 3. I think that it would have drawn more people to it and the final boss fight with the queen would have been more satisfying than the same “spitters” that are at the end of every level.

It basically IS Aliens and everybody knows. Alien 3 (the movie) was just released so they didn't want to take the risk and name it after the older (yet better) movie. Too bad, but a marketing decision. And since they needed an action background, they took at least half of the content from the second movie (weapons, AlienS, the hive level)

If you play it via emulator, I strongly recommend to use a cheat for stop the timer. It does not make the game easier, but at least you can play more relaxed.
