Gameplay was improved in this one. Each character had 3-5 different combinations and grab moves. Different attacks on the run and special attacks. Also, you could choose your way throughout the game. According to way you go, you must fight different bosses. Cool soundtrack and level design. This is arguably the GA game.

This game deserves way more praise than it receives. No, the graphics are not Master System looking. They look way better than the previous two games. Yes, this game is hard, and that’s what I enjoy about it. Anyone complaining about the difficulty of a game needs to either not play it, lower the difficulty, or get good. Everything about this game was improved on, especially the music, so I don’t know why people hate this game. It deserves more respect and I hate the fact that it doesn’t.

Not compared to the first two in my opinion, I find it cheesy and not like a Golden Axe OST but to each their own. It is not epic, just sounds like cheesy platform game music.

seriously, this was so fun to watch.. I've watched many golden axe 3 videos but why this was only recommended to me after 10 yrs i don't know the moves are too random so you know it's human. never taking the cheesy ways. always using the mounts. always throwing the sword just for the fun of it

I never understood why this was called a bad game at the time, and the reviews for it made no sense whatsoever. This was overall the best Golden Axe game, one of my favorites since the day it came out(it was sold in some places in english). Cool new character designs, better level designs, better music, mutiple level routes, more original gameplay features, and actually good graphics. Although ill admit, the magic doesn't look as good the first 2 games.

It was a step backwards from the other Genesis games. Even Streets of Rage 3 looked & sounds better in comparison. Also, every enemy this time around was cheap. The Knights are too easy to deal with. The Minotaurs are the worst. The final boss isn't that hard. Even the hidden final boss isn't that much tougher.

I'm surprised you did not use Tyris Flare's best best move. Press jump, then at the peak press down and attack (very briefly). This move is un-blockable and pretty much the best move in the whole game. Enjoy!

This really wasn't that bad of a game, tried it a bit, It's for the most part faithful to the Style, 1 was great.. 2 was sort of a generalized clone with it's basic additions, 3, bit of difference but still, I wouldn't complain, least its not like some sequels or prequels that Ignore a general game play.

I feel pity, as somebody who played this game when He was a child, that the PS3 version was rather disappointing. Were the team who developed God Of War (Kratos) were able to get an opportunity from SEGA to develop this game, the quality of this game would have been stellar. I do hope that SEGA could contact them for a remake of the first golden axe. Thank you very much.

Sadly it seems like this game would have been released before Golden Axe 2, just from the look and feel. Definitely disappointing compared to the others, but not a bad game. But it is annoying that half the time you use magic. Nothing shows and you only hear the sounds, or all the characters disappear and you actually do see it.

Is it just me or someone here never ended this game with 2 players? Me and my friends were used to try it so so so many times, many different strategies, different characters... but man, the last stage was way too hard, and of course we get in there with almost no continues...

A month ago i finished this game twice with my friend who has never played any 16-bit games before. Both times we got good ending, although during our first attempt he didn't make it and died very close to the final boss. Surely, I did most of the work during our playthroughs - but it is quite possible if at least one player is used to the game mechanics.

Golden Axe 1: Best music, hardest, very good graphics. Though I play the superior Arcade version, I once in a while play the Genesis version. Golden Axe 2: Amazing music, best magic system, good graphics. I tend to play this one the most of all of them. Golden Axe 3: The worst and most cheesy music (sounds like platform game music), most character choices, by FAR the worst game of the series. Graphics improved but I do not like the style as much. I hardly ever play it.
