Well done sir. Unfortunately things have gone downhill. I was on her in December 19 2019 and back on her 2023. The food has gone down hill and by the looks of your video the passport bar still has the same old tired furniture. Been on 5 cruises with them two more are booked and paid for. The staff however is still a 10 out of 10. I hope they stop the downward spiral.

Coincidentally I drove on the toll road to Denpasar today and saw an enormous Celebrity Cruiseschip docked in the harbour et voilà, here are the answers to questions that sprung up in my mind looking at it from afar. I commend you for being on a cruise for ten days without your family…. Yes, the food offerings are amazing, the size of the ship is impressive, the destinations are bucket list…..but then….your room…!!! What a let down, I don’t want to come across as spoiled, but personally I really think that was below par. It looked so worn, tired and dated. I know you’re supposed to only sleep there and are encouraged to enjoy everything the ship has to offer during the day, but I would have felt miserable waking up and going to sleep in that room! Thank you for this epic review, must have been a monster job to finish! 😅🙏🏼

Definitely agree. My guess is the dry dock after my sailing was originally meant to be a full refurbishment but was deferred due to Covid. Even one of the staff I was speaking with was surprised the dry dock was “just for painting”… all of that said, after the Virgin cruise, I feel like I’m never going to look at another room the same… even new ones on Celebrity! Haha.

What a fantastic review. How did you possibly cover all of that content in 10days? I started watching thinking I’ll time out after 5 minutes but I enjoyed the whole experience. You couldn’t eat that much food on land for ten days and pay under $4k excluding accomodation so it seems an amazing bargain. The 4 minute montage was beautiful. What a wonderful video experience. Fantastic review. I just completed a cruise on the Reflection which was out of FT. Lauderdale on Dec 23rd, 2023. The food, at Oceanview, looked fantastic in your review than my cruise, however mine was still fantastic. The choices were more on your cruise than mine, however it was still fantastic. I understand yours was a Mediterranean cruise (so higher in caliber) compared to my US to Bahamas. The only main issue was the satellite coffee stations had cold coffee and supplies like milk were not refilled in a reasonable time. The cafeteria closed/transitioned promptly at scheduled times. I have never had a better fish-n-chips than on this cruise. I had a balcony stateroom... I would have like the railings on the balcony wiped down, because of the dried salt from he ocean, but I never asked them to. The entertainment always conflicted with our meal time (8:30pm) at Opus.

I don’t think I’ve ever been on a cruise that wouldn’t allow that- and I do it quite often. I’ve only ever seen outdoor decks closed for stormy weather, not based on time of day.

We have just been on Celebrity Edge here in Australia. The food as you said was excellent. We were concierge class with an infinite balcony which was ok. The mix of passengers was poor - very rude people (unusual for an Aussie cruise) and I couldn't get a decent cocktail, they were different every time. The staff were great but I didn't like the design of Edge - very claustrophobic. This ship looks nicer for me in design - more open with heights to different spaces. Great video!

No, no plans for it now. It is a niche destination to begin with, that combined with a very slow Covid recovery (only ~20 flights today, half of which from VN) make it a non starter for the time being, unfortunately.

@@tfft The definition "mega" keeps changing. "Mega" has gone from 75,000 tons to 100,000 tons to 150,000 tons to now over 200,000 tons. Celebrity is now looking to make money in the suites, the so-called Retreat that they feature so much on the Edge class ships. I hate it personally. But that may be the future of premium cruising and already seems the future of lines like NCL and MSC.

Thanks for the review. One of things that my family and I always enjoyed on Celebrity is the main dining room food (MDR). It was always so good that paying extra to eat wasn't needed. All the cruise lines are pushing the extra charge dining, like every moment on the ship, everywhere you go, "Buy the dining package". Is the decline of MDR food purposeful, to get pax to buy the extra cost dining packages? Because it seems that way. I am not interested in eating the buffets during most of the cruise...

No way for me to answer that specifically but it could have something to do with it. Ironically though as the MDR food has declined the Speciality food has been elevated compated to years ago, making them more of a value to consider. Generally I stay within the bounds of whatever on board credit I'm given to book my specialty dining.

The chapters in this review are well done. Commentary is excellent. I think dated can be good but I don't think this ship is dated. I feel it's the proper evolution of Celebrity style. Celebrity Edge is a departure and a rather characterless departure from that style. Celebrity is all about being evocative of the 1920s through 1960s style and this ship does a solid job of that. It does not need the bland beige/blue look and "contemporary" treatment that was given ships like the Millennium and Summit, taking some of the character away from those ships. And I will say that this beige and gray and neutral palette look that too many ships are adapting now will be "dated" soon enough as well and that look is trendy more than truly contemporary. More than that, the Solstice ships have a nice intimacy about them that makes them stand out. However, looking at this review, when was it done? The ship is white here, the original livery and not the blue hull it currently has. And Celebrity has now 4 Edge ships in service with one left but they've sold off their Century class ships. I will say that maintenance in the cabin is not up to par. Celebrity standards at one time would never allow this amount of disrepair that you showed. I don't consider this ship old. To me, this is a relatively young ship and when you filmed this, probably was just 12 years in service. Food looks average, nothing like Celebrity once was. Murano is close to the original specialty restaurant on the Millennium ships. But there was one only and was just more personalized service with a bit better food than the dining room. But now Celebrity wants passengers to go for the specialty restaurants for their elevated food. I love the lounges, especially the Martini Bar, Passport Bar and Ensembles. That they're "dark" just enhances the mood IMO. The Sky Lounge isn't and it's a nice area as well. Interior lounges and promenade decks are my favorite parts of ships. I like the previous Solstice ships with Quasar and a full Sky Lounge but still the Reflection is a fine ship.

Looking at how many deck chairs were crowded around the pools made me cringe at the thought of what it would be like if filled with people all using those pools. No wonder these cruise ships are called floating Petri dishes. Can't believe people pay for that experience crammed in with so many others but to each their own I guess. Think I'd be in my stateroom most of the time lol.
