The "missile" brick is a call back to the 80's toy skystriker .Where it had a lever that would slide to swing the wings.

that is what duke's actual back pack looked like in the 80s ...the part you said was a parachute is his bed roll/tent and the spot in the middle was a shovel it was for when duke was out in the wilderness.
