Video game composers should take notes and compose their games using Sega Genesis hardware! Hah this is friggin awesome

Exactly. The YM2612 deserves more love

@@Evaldas256 I've listened to the original now, it's not a patch on his version but it's actually not bad. The original has terrible mixing down though the drums weren't loud enouh

It's amazing how much better this sounds in comparison to the original. The original was kinda flat and generic, while this sounds very nice and less generic. It's amazing what old FM synthesis can do to modern composition and still sound amazing at the same time.

Gotta 100% disagree with you on that one.

@solarflare90782 жыл бұрын
That's the thing. Most people are used to hearing crappy GEMS OSTs (see also: Savaged Regime's 2021 April Fools joke), but good MD composers back then, mainly Japanese ones, can make games sound great like this.
@machinaeZER06 жыл бұрын
Hey man, would you ever consider a cover of something from the Donkey Kong Country soundtrack? I feel like you would put a really cool spin on some of the more techno-y tracks. :) Either way, friggin incredible cover! Your work is consistently amazing.

FANTASTIC. I'd be interested to hear this on original hardware. There are a few games with samples this clean, but only a scant few composers/sound programmers could pull it off(I'm looking at YOU, Shaun Hollingworth, and You, Data East)....

It sounds the same. If you are supporting him on patreon, he gives away download links for .vgm files which you can play on original hardware.

Now i know why MM11 Soundtrack felt so flat compared to the previous MM games , As u expected the composers got so lazy but you Gecko , You are something different fella , You have out-shined the og and the composer herself , I am so proud of you , Can't bloody wait to hear your MMX 4 5 6 works , those 3 especially has the best soundtrack in the X series .

It's a technique which old games used, typically referred to as single channel echo, where you repeat a section of notes at a lower volume.
@bondosho5 жыл бұрын
Or play the same note on another channel. In Streets of Rage 2, some of the Roland piano samples took up to 3 channels.
@XBladenoJutsu5 жыл бұрын
Roland Piano samples... The Genesis only has 1 sample channel, and 98% or 99% of games which use samples at all use it for drums. The Genesis generates sound internally by programming operators. That Piano is pure FM.
@bondosho5 жыл бұрын
Must have been a Roland FM patch converted to work on the Yamaha.
@XBladenoJutsu5 жыл бұрын
No, you can't just convert samples to FM. You have to manually program the sound from scratch. Besides, he's been using that FM Piano since the 80s, so it's more likely he heard some of Sega's Arcade games and tried to replicate that sound.
@lilim8875 жыл бұрын
wtf :D
