Glad to see this stage getting the hate it deserves. People will tell you this is a good boss battle because it's hard, well guess what this is what we call artificial difficulty. If you don't have enough power you have to die, and there is no warning beforehand. SHIT!

I never worried about the trick shot stuff. if you die, the gates you destroy don't come back. So on the first life, I destroyed all the gates, died, then farmed weapon power-ups and then went back for the turrets.

You take a death, and restock. It’s the same if you don’t complete it on the first try. You have to be ALMOST as tricky as in this run to make it. Next time you’re back, the shield barriers you’ve destroyed are still gone, but the enemies are back, and you HAVE to have Crash Bombs to defeat this boss.

I can agree with the idea, but the level is not designed for farming at all. if they wanted to do this kind of boss they should have put it in Wily Stage 2 next to the room of infinitely spawning drill enemies. The placement of the Mets, Joes, and Tellys make it near impossible to farm with it being a gordian knot of hangups.

The blinking is the sprite limit trying to cope, it was like that on the NES even if it was new. Also, you could of bashed both walls when you had 2 turrets left by shooting at the corner and took down both walls with the explosion. That's just a speed runner tactic I saw from TASvideos. They also had a trick called 'damage distribution' but you couldn't of used it in this Mrs. Perfect run you're doing.

For all non-expert players.....the room at 1:21 can be your friend. If you die at the boss screen you can use the enemies in this screen to fill up all your weapon tanks on the next go-around. It can be tedious and take awhile, but if you sit in the lower left corner up against the wall and wait for them to come at you from the lower right corner. When they get close to you, shoot them and collect whatever they happen to drop. Then when you're all full, go to the next room.

Here are some tips: Instead of climbing all the way down the ladder (which i tried to do once, but for some reason i phazed through the platform) go to the item menu and close it again. Just make sure megaman is above the platform. This also acts as a faster way to travel down ladders. to go over the spikes with fake platforms above them, use item 2. it's a great help.

I seem to recall differently. I happen to own the game, and I've played it a lot. As far as I recall, you will respawn right before the first room with the Tellies. So the game DOES have a slight amount of mercy on the player in that regard. But the boss most certainly does not.

This boss is just like the final wily boss in that you HAVE to use one weapon to win...but unlike him, crash bombs are expensive. If you fail at the boss, you are stuck fighting sniper joes and mech sniper joes to try to get your crash bombs back to full. It was one of the most infuriating memories I ever have of playing the megaman series. At least it seems in subsequent MM games the option to win with the buster was always there?

Here's two tips for you: 1. Don't grab the two weapon fuel items at the beginning; if you accidentally use up your Crash Bombs or any other weapon, backtrack the best you can and use 'em to refill. 2. There's an easier way to dodge the shots from the turrets: pause the game at the right moment, and, when Mega Man is "reforming" himself, the shots will phase RIGHT through him. Since the shots are very quick, there's a nicely sized window for dodging, so don't sweat it too much.

I always thought this boss was clever, because it basically required you to die and come back to beat him. They even save which doors you get rid of between deaths. The line between genius and annoying is difficult to see though.

Thank you. I had to scroll down a long way to find this. As an eight-year old, I felt immense satisfaction figuring this out on my own pre-internet. Had always figure this was simply a creative way to design a boss, one that required you to 1) figure out its only weakness 2) deal as much damage as you could 3) die 4) grind to power back up and 5) return to finish it off.

With a couple of other trick shots you can manage to save up to 2 crash bombs. 3 if you use the stage wall glitch. That way you crash up both forms of wily's machine. The bomb into the small exhaust port works on both forms of wily machine #2

So I did figure out if you blow up all the walls in the boss room when you get back there after you die they are still gone so you can kill the shooters easily if you refill crash bombs power

I baught the mini nes and this boss seems to bee too mutch even for the console. When im trying to start to get item 1, i must press multiple times and by that time i will get knocked off the platform so i have to get it again and then get the crash bomb and by then i have been knocked off again since it took too mutch time to change again while the screen is blinking.

More lives just makes it worse, because it takes more time to build up the bombs then to just restart the stage. I just gave up for tonight. That's kind of the MO for Wily's castle without using guides, just wasting time trying different things, having that "Eureka" moment after lots of trial and error, then packing it in for another day because you know the puzzles just about solved, and just don't want to deal with it right now..

The first ladder down room is a good spot to farm power ups and extra lives. Cross down to the second ladder down and stand just above the ladder. If you clear the room correctly, 3 enemies will float across the screen from the bottom right. It does take patience, but you can build up all the lives and power ups you need.
