They're fully rebuilt into a specific framework dedicated to complete flawless recreation of the original releases, with special care to include every detail of the original hardware. This collection is intended to be as close to playing the original NES releases as possible without tracking down the original hardware. The inclusion of sprite flicker, slowdown, and overscan is intentional to preserve these games as close to their original form as possible. This guy was apparently expecting some kind of HD remake, and is upset that what he got wasn't what he expected, but instead is exactly what was marketed. tl;dr the games are flawless recreations, this video is stupid.

I think this video largely misses the point of the Legacy Collection in the sense that he's missing stuff like price and the actual contents of the collection. First off, unlike the Aniversary Collection which charged $40 for the package, this is only charging $15. Granted, you bought the $50 version with a gold amiibo. The other half of it is the challenge mode which is where Gillie's complaint of wanting to "beat the Legacy Collection" is answered. The challenge modes also weren't even touched on in the video because that is the content to draw in people who already own the games. Won't argue with the emulation stuff though. The only good that came out of that was the devs being able to jump from one level of one game and jump load into a completely different level from another game in the challenge mode.

I think I am the only guy who appreciates the challenge mode, I mean, it's exactly the same game, but the twist that it adds and the emphasis on speed and efficiency really makes it really fun. Also, museum mode is a nice thing, but the database, oh boy, I really like it, it's nice to see that the database from Complete works was delivered here on this collection. And it even haves the option to allow you to challenge the robot masters directly. (unlike the fortress bosses, which is dissapointing). I have followed Megaman for eons, I own a PS2 and I even have played the Anniversary collection, and it was really good, but we can't expect for people to buy that game instead, I mean, it's not very easy to get, only hardcore gamers still have their old ps2, and the original 6 nes games are not cheap, by far. I am very pleased with my purchase, even if it does not have as many games as the Anniversary collection, Legacy collection encourages playing this games in another, very different, way, something that makes me so happy after having played this games my whole life. (And even if Anniversary had more games, it was still pretty lazy, specially the hud and menus)

The ports are closer to the NES versions, the colors are more vibrant, and the menus are fast, self explanatory and right at my fingertips. As for the Anniversary Collection, I own the Gamecube version and besides the missing/altered/drowned out sound effects, the main thing that turned me off immediately was the swapped controls. That alone made it unplayable.

I've never understood why people are so fast to dismiss this package due to what games are in it when you factor in the price. It's 15 USD for a digital copy. That comes to 2.50 a game. Meanwhile, Pokemon Yellow, Blue and Red go for 10 USD PER VERSION. Heck, at the very least, why aren't Blue and Red less than yellow considering they are technically inferior? Yet, they are the best selling digital games for the system. From what I can gather, and was even stated in this video, is that when people say "It should have had more games from the series" they actually mean "There's nothing new for me in this package as I already have them several times over." Hey, I can understand that, it's just not what you are actually saying.

This isn't the cheapest way to buy the classic series. I bought the Mega Man Anniversary Collection 2 years ago off of Amazon, brand new in the plastic. It cost 20$, I haven't looked since and perhaps the price has gone up but it was a great value then. A lot of people complain that they switched the A and B buttons on the Gamecube port, but why does it matter? Does it bother you when you play Metroid Prime? The shoot button should be the big button, doesn't bother me at all.

My initial interest into the collection was also rather "meh", due to already owning all of the games in the collection in one way or another, but shortly before I had to go on a longer trip, there was a Capcom Sale going on in the Nintendo eShop, so the collection went from roughly 15€ down to something around 6-7 bucks IIRC, so I thought "Sure, why not?" and bought it. And I can say, for that price it's actually really good! Playing MM1-6 on the go with customizable controls is pretty sweet, and the additional content (database, museum, challenge mode) is also pretty nifty. Even if you go for the download version without the sale, it's still the cheapest way to get all six games on the 3DS. IMHO it's a good purchase, even though I agree it's a bit weird that it's only the first 6 games.

My problems with this collection: 1:No 7,8,9 and 10 2:While yes this emulation is much better than the one in the anniversary collection , its still is underwhelming. The games still have slowdown and at times sprite flicker.In an interview they said we got rid of the slowdown that was there because of the system but we couldnt get rid of the slowdown that was programmed in to the game (apparently it was done so it wouldnt kill the nes) and we wanted to be as close to the originals as possible. Here's the problem.Why did you try to emulate the original feeling.The slowdown and the sprite flicker is something that hurts the experience.Just because it had those back in the day DOESNT MEAN they were good.I was really hoping this collection would AT LEAST make the games run like megaman 9 and 10 BUT NO it doesnt.There is literally no reason to buy this collection other than wanting to use a chance to show Capcom that we still care about megaman.

About the slowdown and Sprite flicker, I think they could at least do it as in MM9 and 10, were you can choose to turn on and off the flicker (this option is ironically named "Legacy mode"). With exception of Mega Man 1 and 2 Wily Machines, the flicker doesn't bother me that much, but beginning from MM3 the slowdown can get quite irritating... Anyway, it's 2017 and despite 2 years have passed I'm thinking about buying it now ("better late than never" they say), because it is a way to support the series comercially, to be able to play the games legally and to don't feel guilty about playing them on emulator :X .

For me it's already lazy for the fact that they only included the first 6 games. So they really didn't do it better than Complete Works or Anniversary Collection either, since Anniversary Collection includes more games. They could really bring the best of all collections and more, but they didn't do it at all. I think any modern console could hold all the classic Mega Man games, spinoffs and Game Boy titles with no problem. They could really make the ultimate collection and even include stuff that was only released in Japan. This could have potential, but no...it's not. Oh well, I guess if it's just a fancy NES emulator, it makes sense why it didn't include the other games. Damn, Capcom, why do you do this?

Sucks how companies release shit like this and force reviewers to grit their teeth and say "buy this game or CAPCOM might kill the IP" Like, I hate how they did this. So much. But if this gets too much hate, Megaman will probably die. This is the only thing we got in 8 years. And it fucking hurts cause Megaman deserves better than this. My best example of how old IP's deserve better treatment than their owners give them is Inafune and Mighty No. 9. I was rooting for Mighty No. 9. Kickstarted it and all. It was supposed to be the spiritual successor to Megaman. It was called "The true Megaman" to some. But it has been YEARS since it was announced and we have mostly gotten radio silence after the all the controversy on the forums during the first 2 years. And then the demo that made reviewers go "meh" FUCKING MEH? REALLY? This was supposed to be the comeback. The reincarnation of the Blue Bomber. And everyone was not interested or hyped after playing the demo?! And here we are at the final leg of the race and instead of hype, I am scared that this will become Inafune's big "fuck you" to the fans because Red Ash fell through. Like I've seen it before. A dev gets shit on for something they made or did, and they decide to take all their content and disappear. RIP Fez 2 At least Scott Cawthorn didn't back down when he dropped FNAF World and got hate. He apologized and went back to making scary animatronics.

Man, when I saw there was absolutely nothing more than the NES versions, including overscam and "framerates" going down when there are too much enemies on screen, I asked for a refund to Nintendo. It was kind of hard, then didn't want to do anything because I "agreed with conditions" but when I told them I was going to talk about this to customers associations, they "took the decision" to refund me and take away the game from my account. I have been refunded, and for 1 year, they still didn't take back the game.

Well, if you never bought the Mega Man games on the 3DS' VC and want to play the classic games on the go WITHOUT emulating then this is the way to go. One thing I like about this collection is the ability to have practice fights with the robot masters in the database. Also I really don't look at emulation as an option cause you're pirating the games. Ain't a big deal, but actually owning the game feels better than downloading a digital copy illegally. As for Anniversary Collection, that version had several problems (MM7's ending was screwed up, firing and jumping was switched around in the GC version, and several others) so those aren't really perfect ports and not everyone still has their PS2s/GCs/Xboxs.

I actually really like it myself. It may have had less content in it than Anniversary, but it felt better to play for some reason. Like the controls felt better, the visuals felt better, and I love all the museum content it has. I didn’t feel like I was cheated by a lack of accomplishments/trophies, and even that bit of overscan didn’t bug me all that much.

I didn't grow up with an NES. I had a SNES, and for the longest time my only experience with the blue bomber was X, which I owned and loved; 7, which I rented repeatedly before some other asshole rented and broke; and 2, which I played once at a friend's house. I preordered the Anniversary Collection, and I was blown away. Not only did I experience the entire original Mega Man franchise in one PS2 disc, I also got the two arcade games that never released in the US, crap loads of unlockables for beating each individual game, AND the first episode of the animated series (which in hindsight was pretty terrible, but childhood nostalgia is a powerful thing). It was the perfect game for introducing and immersing me into the original classic series. To this day, Mega Man: Anniversary Collection is among my all-time favorite games. It is, in my opinion, the Gold Standard to which compilation games should be held to. Last year, when I saw the Legacy Collection, my initial and only thoughts about it were, "What's the fucking point?" for the very same reasons which you illustrated in this video. The fact that Capcom has let its mascot, who helped define gaming as a whole, fall completely to the wayside is proof positive that they just don't give a shit anymore. btw: I just discovered you and am busy archive-binging, and I gotta say, I love your work. Never played the original 6. Extremely detest how Rock kinda has ice-physics-esque traction on 1 & 2. But I do agree with your opinion, this is for those of us that never really played the original 6.

Thanks for your opinion. I'm not really sure on whether to buy this game or not. I still have a PS2 hooked up to my HDTV via some Monster component cables (game looks pretty good to me) & so i borrowed the Anniversary Collection from a buddy to try that out instead as i've only played the X series. I'm really liking the games so far but i have the same gripes that you do with the Legacy Collection. Maybe if it's on sale for really cheap i'll pick it up for my only current gen console, my Xbox One...possibly.

Idek man, I first got the game on steam cuz when it came out I was starting to be a mega man fan and so I wanted to try the games out, when I first open the game as soon as it's finished installing the game only plays the music, no video what so ever, then I did it the second time, the title screen did load but it was frozen to the point where I could only here the music...luckily I fixed it a little bit and started playing the first game, but the it crashed and now I never play it and I'm so upset because I just lucked my self out of $20

In my time with Legacy Collection on the Xbox One, I noticed one thing that basically KILLED it for me. I had fucking BUTTON DELAY. What the fuck. So I thought I would switch to a wired controller instead. Nope, still there. I used the D-Pad. Nope, still there. So then I thought, maybe it's the TV? (Even though I am running a native HD console on an HD TV.) So I got my Gamecube from my room, plugged it in, and booted up Anniversary Collection. Little to no button delay at all, and I was running an SD console on an HD TV. Fucking emulation had less button delay than this. For an action platformer like this, button delay can literally destroy your chances of winning. What a shit port. Anniversary Collection has four more games, extra easier difficulties for the weak, maps, and easier to access passwords. Overall better experience, regardless of whether or not this game was trying to achieve the most authentic experience possible. Hell, the actual NES runs these games better than this collection's "authentic rebuild". Did you have any experience with button delay while playing, or was it just me or the Xbox One version?

I have the 3ds version, my only complaint is the fact that they made the screen smaller than what was used in the existing 3ds virtual console ports.

HD TVs and emulators both cause input lag, and combining them together is not a good option. The Wii U is a lot better for this, you can get Mega Man 1-7, X1-3, the two Battle games, Zero 1-4, and some others, and the Wii U has the ability to output a native 480i signal which you can plug straight into a CRT and enjoy minimal input lag. But as long as emulators are used at all, there will at least be a tiny bit, if Capcom built the game from the ground up like they said they could've reduced this but clearly they didn't.

I'm surprised you didn't mentioned that mega man 5 has an awful framerate and some sound issues. You can fix this problem with by playing the game in japanese but you're stuck with the US version for challenge mode. I'm not sure if this is a 3ds only problem but I know it's not just me that had this problem.

The anniversary collection wasn't released outside North America so the legacy collection is needed for the PAL regions

This is about as bad as super Mario all stars on the Wii. You compare that and this to something like kirbys collection on Wii, just doesn't compare. It's a shame too. I would be willing to spend full price or more to have Megaman 1-10, Megaman X1-X8, Megaman and Bass and Megaman Soccer on one complete disc. Might as well kiss that dream goodbye.

I have it on my Xbox One and I'm enjoying it, we also get achievements on consoles which addresses one of your issues. I've also never played Mega Man before. It would be nice to have Mega Man 7-10 though, maybe we'll have a second collection

I'll pass. I have Mega Man 6 already on 3DS Virtual Console, which I haven't even beaten. I suppose I'm part the target market you mentioned, but I don't see myself playing all six games, so I'd probably be better off just playing a couple of them off the VC. My friend really likes the Game Boy version of 5, so I might get that, whenever I beat 6, eventually.

Yeah mostly all the Gameboy Megaman games are great. The one that suffers the most is Megaman 2 (GB) which in my opinion is the EASIEST Megaman game I have ever played. Also, the soundtrack is downright horrifying. Just avoid Megaman 2 (GB)

Megaman 6 is SO good, but fuck my ass ragged, do I ever get bugged by the lack of a dedicated sound for a charged buster shot. Not having quality of life options like weapon/adaptor switching via shoulder buttons throughout all games also was a downer too.

I actually really enjoy the mega man legacy collection 1 and 2 on switch because of one thing. No slowdown or glitches. Everything ran smoothly EVEN 3 DID NOT HAVE SLOWDOWN FOR ME! I was shocked because 3 is infamous for its slowdown and the fact that it did not have any slowdown was a pleasant surprise. But that was my experience. Yours could've been different than mine

I don't agree with the idea to have a function that has the mega man games play as if they were on original hardware. It makes the experience less smooth and laggy :/

I must be crazy because even though i thought legacy collection 2 was well made...but for this collection is it just me or is does the games have a decent sized delay for jumping? After playing celeste, sonic mania, and crash bandicoot n sane trilogy, not to mention legacy collection 2 and it seems the jump delay is horrible, particularly on ps4...anyone else have the same issue? Cause the other games mention dont have this issue and there is an immediate finding of jump delay in playing with controls, being a vet when it comes to platformers recently it becomes apparent when something is off

I once got the mobile version of mega man 2 which i deleted in a week because i didn't like the feel of it on a phone but then a couple days ago i got the legacy collection 60% off on the nintendo eshop (bringing the price down to $5.99) and i only bought it just for the sake of having megaman 1-6 and I do like the controls. If it would have been. The original price, it would have been no sale. I have an nes but no mega man games for it atm, maybe I'll get them someday

I had no issues with 5, other than the game constantly seizing up on the quicksave menu. Is that the major flaw with it? If that's the case, play Rockman 5. It's much smoother. (BTW I'm talking about the 3DS edition. If the glitch isn't there, this comment is kinda pointless.

Yeah, I wanted to get this since I've never played Mega Man seriously before, like once I died playing a ROM in 2002 out of curiosity, but without at least seven and eight (the ones that looked the most fun to me) I have no idea why I'd want to get this. The fact that it's even shittier than I thought at a glance clinches it though. If I'm gonna play Megaman I'll either buy the SNES/PSX games or just emulate them, I mean why should I reward a company for being lazy?
