My SpongeBob game growing up was Creature from the Krusty Krab. Even after playing Battle for Bikini Bottom years later, I still prefer Creature. Battle is good too though.

The first game I had on the NES was MM5, so I have a special fondness for that game. However, when I played MM3, it somehow became my favorite game in the series.

Thank you! Yeah, a 7-yo video, but I just finished Yooka-Laylee a month or two ago, so I'm here now. I've been dissecting the common criticisms in my head for weeks now, and I agree with pretty much everything you said. I think I do like Tooie a little more than you do, but I agree that YL is much more inspired by Kazooie than Tooie and that the aspects of Tooie that are present in Yooka are mostly the good aspects. A few things I'd add that are my own opinions: Hivory Towers is fun to explore and also has 20 pagies of its own, and that instantly makes me like it as a hub world more than both Grunty's Lair and Isle o' Hags. The latter has no real jiggies of its own except the first one. Grunty's Lair is truly charming, but still most of its jiggies are just witch switch jiggies, and the only collectibles of its own that it has are the 3 Cheato cheats. Yooka-Laylee's moveset makes me like Yooka and Laylee so much as distinct characters. Yooka has a lot of tongue-based moves and camouflage while Laylee offers flight and sonar moves. And the roll feels like a true combination move. In both BK and BT, it feels like Kazooie carries the team and Banjo does very little. Even in BT, all of Banjo's solo moves are about his backpack, and not about him being a big-ass bear who should be stronger than Kazooie but isn't. So I love this improvement. (Plus they gave Laylee the ability to aim and to run while shooting.) There is one thing that I will critize YL for compared to both Banjo games, and that is enemy variety. There are normal troops, slightly stronger troops, eyes that possess things, hornets that shoot spikes, cyclops monsters, jellyfish, and security bots. And I guess you could count that type of ghost writer that attacks you. That's it. Most of the enemies you see in Galleon Galaxy are also encountered in Tribalstack Tropics at the beginning of the game. Both BK and BT has better enemy diversity than that. They had distinct level-appropriate enemy types and not just reskins. So I genuinely hope we get a Tooka-Laylee, but with more effort put into the enemy types.

I actually really enjoyed this game as a kid. We had a gamegear we played on road trips and this was one of my fav games on it. I actually didn't know the screen was crunched at all till I got the Mega Man collection on PS2 and realized what the levels were supposed to look like in 4 and 5, but I don't remember having any trouble with it. As I recall my older sibling was able to beat it, and I was able to get all the way to the last stage when I was like... 10. So it wasn't super hard over all. This game is also the reason that Star Man is one of my favorite robot masters and I love his stage. Even more so in Mega Man 5 for NES.

5:37 so i recently played through Mega Man Dr. Wily's revenge as part of a marathon where im playing the vast majority of mega man games (basically all of them except for a few niche spinoffs like the DOS games or that one FMV game for the PS1 that i just dont feel like playing) and you dont need to attack Enker's lance to damage him, or at least you don't need to aim for it. If you shoot him at any point while he's charging his lance, your shot will be redirected towards his lance, meaning you don't need to commit to a jump just to damage him and you can instead prepare to jump in response to his attack.

So much of this video was so bizarre for me to hear. I've been playing Megaman games all my life. It's my favorite video game series. And so many of the claims you make about the series, and various entries in it, clash so hard with my knowledge and experience with the series. Like, Megaman 6, 7, and 8 weren't unpopular because people were getting tired of the same old formula. 6 was a NES game in the SNES era, 8 was a Playstation game for a Nintendo series, and 7 wasn't unpopular at all. It was just outshined by the X games. I discovered Megaman & Bass same as you, as an emulator when I was a kid. I was surprised when you said it was unpopular, and downright shocked when you said it was because of the difficulty. The game never seemed any more difficult than other Megaman games to me. Saying that playing it with Megaman was hardmode was also weird, Megaman was the easier play for me. I like Bass as a character, but I disliked playing as him. He always felt so weak. The extra mobility, while nice, was never all that useful or necessary when you can just move properly without it. It's so weird to hear someone who loves the series as much as I do have such different opinions about much of it. Even different perceptions about popularity and reception than I do. But a Megaman fan is a Megaman fan, and we always need more of those. Different opinions and preferences and all. I appreciate the walk down memory lane, and hope we'll get a real new Megaman game again, someday.

I thought about playing DB Origins 1, but it uses the gimmicky touchscreen so I'll go straight to Origins 2 which starts during the Red Ribbon arc and reaches the end of Dragon Ball. I've played DBZ AotS and it really is an amazing game, Supersonic Warriors 2 is great too, although I have never played Goku Densetsu but am interested in doing so.

New subscriber here. Great video. I had to pause it at MM2 and save it to watch later. Dude, I'm an old school MM fan who had moved on to 16 bit and mmx. I never finished 4 and never played 5 or 6. With the recent releases and how well I know they were received, I'm currently playing through all of the classic series and just finished the 3rd master in mm1. I'm going to save this vid as a primer to re--watch each relative segment concurrently with each game. Great presentation.

The only way i can see the games redeeming themselves is if they make a third game in the style of the other two rpgs and then make a comment about this game not mattering, sort of like when they switched from playing fantasy to superheroes at the start of fractured but whole. Just toss a lampshade on it and move on.
