I think the concept is interesting, although I think it could bring in the side effect of not being able to see enemies or projectiles all that well.

That's the best way to do remakes like this. A bit of the old and some brand new stuff. Mainly for Mega Man 1-3 too since they've all been remade once and Mega Man 1 at least twice officially.
