Usually, this is the first maverick that I pick up when I play this game. The boss fight is retardly easy and the spinning blade is so OP that it makes the buster upgrade at least bearable, since you never need to use the buster ever again. XD

This is probably the only stage where I actually like the Anniversary remix more than the original. The original was a little TOO heavy on the SNES-Guitar for my liking, the intro sounded grating to me. And the main melody is a lot catchier in the remix. Also, I can't unhear the Dr Light capsule as his MM8 "Dr Fudd" voice. "Dis chip wiw incewase youah defenswive capabiwitys."

Blast Hornet takes extra damage from the Spinning Blade, despite his normal weakness being Gravity Well. If I recall correctly he takes 2 damage from the normal shot and 4 damage from the charged version. Crush Crawfish and Toxic Seahorse have frames after being hit with their weakness where their "mercy invincibility" doesn't work correctly, allowing the player to repeatedly damage them. It's kinda tricky, though.

there's an even easier(in my opinion) way to fight him xD hug the wall, take the snare, and he'll try to shoot his claw at you as you fall and completely miss... giving you enough time to jump back up there and continue the cycle

The little backdash attack Crush Crawfish does is used by real crayfish, but as an escape method. However, you can fairly easily catch one by hand - if you ever felt like it - by taking advantage of their instinctive use of this tactic. Just get your hand behind it, reach out with your other hand and will scoot straight into the one you put behind it.

To be honest, if you're going for a no-damage run, it looks like it's just easier to use the buster on Crush Crawfish than it is to use his weakness, the Triad Thunder- mostly because up close, he's capable at trying to truck you, and unless you've gotten the angle just right on the two bottom orbs of the Thunder, you'll end up missing him completely with the shots. Using the Buster means you can stay far away from him, which means you'll be able to see the truck attempts coming from a mile away- and seeing as how his snares don't do any damage, and that he's locked into firing a set of two of them... it's like a free attempt to punish him. The Spinning Blade, on the other hand, well... I was wrong about it, and Pink was right. It does pack a pretty good punch up close and personal, but it's also useful if you know how to work the firing arc- if you face away from your target, your shots will go out, up, and back to hit anything above or below you. It's the perfect angle to smack flying enemies and to completely embarrass Neon Tiger in his boss fight- mostly because the Spinning Blade will knock him right off the wall. The charged form of the Blade... Yo-Yo of Death, anyone? You can hold it in one position, or move it up and over you to smack enemies. As for the upgrades in this area, the Helmet seems to be the throwaway upgrade this time through- revealing the location of the secrets hidden in the level doesn't really mean much if you've got internet access these days, but the chip it can hold is one of the better ones. Still, it's kind of useful. The Ride Armor in this stage is known as the "Hawk" version- it lacks the punching to break through the walls, but it has a very developed hover/flight system in it that you can use to keep aloft for a while, and those missiles pack a decent punch. (Protip: If a stage contains a Subtank, you'll find a blue capsule with armor in it. If you see a Ride Armor, you'll find a pink capsule with a chip in it.) This stage's capsule is the Body Chip- one that can boost X's already capable defenses up. I don't have the numbers on me, but I think the armor itself drops damage by half, and the defense field it grants drops damage by another 12.5%. I'd like to say that the chip boosts that to 75% armor reduction and keeps the defense field up for longer...

Rain Feather The awesome thing about the Spinning Blade is that not only does it do huge damage to normal enemies up close, but it has no delay between shots, so it's easy to just spam it on enemies close to you, which is great for those red chainball holders. Of course, this is mitigated by the fact that around 75% of the enemies in most stages aren't bullet sponges that require more than one and a half charged shots to destroy. As for the upgrades? The chip system is counterproductive - you can only get one, but getting one already locks you out of a chance to get all of them? It's kinda irritating, since once you figure it out, it almost flat-out tells you "psst, get the Golden Armor", and the Golden Armor looks like a bigger vomit stain than the normal armor set. The Ride Armors are pretty cool, but their practicality is neutered by the design of, well, every single stage. It straddles the line between being just for looking awesome and being an afterthought.

RoKayven Let's face it- it took until X4 for a decent buster up-grade and until X7 for decent Ride Armor stages. The chips range in usefulness from unusable (Buster Chip) to useful (Body Chip, Leg Chip) to brokenly powerful (Head Chip) to gamebreaking (Gold Chip). I mean, let's face it- five full life bars that you don't have to worry about wasting because they'll refill while you screw around on your phone or something until the tanks are refilled. If you've reached the Doppler stages, usually you can find out a boss's patterns and weakness within a few minutes- and you might just be able to brute-force through the bosses with that much life. But having all four of them... yeah, that's just cheapening the game. Not to mention X's coloration is just hideous- at least give us a bit of blue instead of this giant yellow thing. Ride Armors... yeah, they pushed them in without seeing if they were feasible in every stage first. Everything but the Frog model blows up in deep water, the Hawk is pretty much useless except to eat damage and fly you around- even if there's not a stage where it's actually helpful- and even if you collect the other three models, you can't use any of them until you clear Blast Hornet and liberate the Chimera suit. There's no need for the Kangaroo armor except to round out the set at four.

EvilMariobot X2's buster upgrade was fine. It trumps X3's by virtue of its design - allowing you to charged two power shots in stock. Simple, practical and efficient - things completely absent from X3's convoluted thing that's complicated and tricky to use, very impractical (you have to use up both shots for the special - that's a pretty big step back) and lagtastic to boot. Awesome on paper, pathetic in practice. It's nice for X4 to give you the benefit of choice, but somehow feels like they were just testing both ideas and put them in there for the sake of it, which is why two Light capsules in one spot is pretty weird, come to think of it. The Stock charge is just a continuation of X2's shot that really doesn't add anything new (aside from one extra charge stock), but at least it's functional. The Plasma shot is hilariously powerful (despite clashing with the armor design), and was basically the better of the two. Probably why that's what they went with it for X5. On an unrelated note, the charged shot in this game looks muted compared to the other two. Almost a straight downgrade.

I don't see how the helmet upgrade would be useful at finding the Hawk Armor, simply because you can't just press a button like X to bring it up and tell you where you are, which in my opinion would have made the helmet so much more useful. At the very least, it tells you what upgrade are in what stage on the level select screen, and which one you collected, so it at least has that going for over the last two upgrades.

I have the Anniversary X edition, and it was actually the first time I ever got to play X3, never could find it around here when I was younger, so this is interesting hearing the original music tracks. On that note though, the Anniversary versions sounded REALLY distorted in the previous videos. This one is completely accurate to how it sounds off the playstation, but was something messing with it in the previous ones?

Perhaps it Crush Crawfish intended for X to drop down through the doors, rather than walking, before the sub started sinking. Either that or Crush Crawfish knew that X would have to make it start sinking. (After all, X WAS blocked off by the little generator thingy.) Also, I wouldn't call the Hawk Armor useless in a million years. It can not fire missiles, but it is the only Ride Armor in the game that can hover.

Japanese pop media isn't always too good at dramatic tension from what I've seen. Stuff like this, zillions of spoilerific episode titles in anime... They could have at LEAST given the mysteeeeerious Maverick a completely black silhouette instead of just greying out his normal sprite. Also, is it really surprising that Crush Crawfish is boring what with the drab gray sub? Of course, part of that's just the X Series' tendency towards "Everything is grim and lifeless in the future", but still.
