funny story about this game... I originally asked my mom for Megaman Legends, but she got me the wrong one and got Megaman x4 for me that christmas. I love my Mom... and I love that she made this mistake, because I love this game so much!

Legends was shit. She definitely did you a solid! Legends is a great concept, but it ends there. If they could make a legends with like legend of zelda questing, I'd be on board. Have a central city, with 8 different paths to different maverick bosses, and many many many off quests you can do. Ocarina of time was mostly linear, but it didn't feel so much because of the game design. Make a Megaman game like that, dicks will get hard.

I remember buying this game back in 03 for cheap since it was disc and back cover only. This what brought me back playing megaman games and I enjoyed this one. But man playing as Zero and his side of story was just tragedy, maybe X was too but Zero's was worst. Not to mention the ending music was just sad. The soundtrack was amazing to listen too.

When you're getting the arm parts in storm owls stage, if you walk upto the boss door, then try and get them, if you die, it'll spawn you at that spot, and you won't have to keep running the level

I'de love to see a MMx game that adds a few things; co op play with Zero and alternate paths. E.g. Say you fight the military train stage first, after you destroy it, all enemies in other stages have weaker weaponry. If you beat it 4th, they have decent, and if you beat it last then they have full weaponry. Say you play biolab last, bosses and certain enemies have developed a resistance to some of your weaponry!

Yeah, the armor is called "Ultimate Armor". The Fourth Armor also has the dash attack but you can only use it once per life, if I'm not mistaken.

Illyasviel von Einzbern PS1 games are generally written in MIPS assembly, though some PS1/GBC/GBA games were written in C but weren't that efficiently programmed as a result (hardware limitations were awful for these systems and the only way to squeeze every last once of power was assembly). Assembly is low-level programming language, and is hardware specific (ARM for GBA/DS/3DS, c6502 and variants for NES/SNES/PCE, MIPS for N64/PS1/PS2/Saturn/PSP, Z80 for GB/GBC, x86 for Windows-compatible PC/PS4/XB/XB1, PowerPC for Mac/iOS/GC/Wii/WiiU...). tl;dr: trying to pick the same programming language choice as this PS1 game is a bad decision since it's low level, and works on 1 platform only: people relying on it are usually devs working on console exclusives. Ask other people about high level languages (ie C++, ..) since they're far more versatile and platform-independant. Just avoid Java.

Illyasviel von Einzbern Just to add one more thing, programming for the PS1 (especially for 2D games) is a less than ideal experience since the hardware and the programming suit they used is very unfriendly, cumbersome and unpredictable (even the PSN emulation for PS1 games just couldn't replicate the functionality of a huge lot of them). Yet the (now ex-) Capcom employees managed with MMX4 to find a way with all the limitations to produce this game - with good management of memory resources and graphics storage (none of that bullshit of SkullGirls sprites taking up 1GB of RAM alone because they were uncompressed and not color indexed, or loooong loading times because the loading is done all at once rather than preemptively and gradually). I think it's inspiring, and a testament that having the best programming languages isn't that crucial in the process. But it's important nevertheless - you don't want a memory leaking unstable mess coded with Java for videogames. Some PC game devs are so paranoid with memory management they resort to assembly or C, even if that means rewriting that whole part from scratch for ports.

XD The deeper down the rabbit hole you go the more work, best to go with Game Maker for hobby/prototype projects.

Japan has different standards than the US on what is okay for entertainment made for kids. Trust me, Japanese entertainment for kids can get away with a LOT Megaman X4 was supposed a Japanese game at first. The Double scene doesn't come until later in the game.
