For me, Mega Man Xtreme was always that one game I had on my 3DS to hold me over until the actual Mega Man X games were re-released on the system 2 years later.

"You can only choose between 4 mavericks of the bat instead of 8, so it more similar to Mega Man 7 and 8." This actually originated from Mega Man I-V on the Game Boy, which also borrows robot masters from the console games, but unlike the Xtreme games, the stages are completely different and sometimes the music as well. You can also fight Zain in the X-hunter room in Flame Stag' stage.

And this would later be implemented with being able to choose one of four missions at a time in MegaMan Zero 1 as well as face up to four bosses at a time in Zero 2 and Zero 3. Zero 4 was the only game to allow you to face any of them in any order like the Classic and X series', as well as each of the eight Mutos Reploids being weak to a specific EX Skill, kinda like how certain special weapons X and Axl get as well as certain techniques Zero gets are the weaknesses of the Mavericks in the X series and certain boss weapons are the weaknesses of the Robot Masters in the Classic series. Finally, what Zero 1 did would be reused in MegaMan ZX while MegaMan ZX Advent would end up going full metroidvania.

It was early 2001, I received a Game Boy Color for the previous Christmas after begging my parents. I got into Mega Man a few years earlier thanks to MM8 and X4, so upon hearing voices about a Mega Man X game for GBC I was really excited. I imported Mega Man Xtreme from America (I live in Italy) thanks to my dad, and I was blown away. The impressive graphics, the great music, the fun but simple gameplay. To put it shortly, I loved it. I still have the box and cartridge, both in perfect conditions

If you ask me, MegaMan Xtreme should've just been a retelling of X1, and not even bother with adhering to the main X continuity; which would lend itself perfectly to the inclusion of both the X2 and original bosses to help it stand out from the original. At least, that's how I feel about it.

@8:50 You can actually just use charged Rolling Shield to wall jump onto the wall spikes. The barrier protects you from those spikes in Xtreme.

I didn’t really grow up playing it, but in Highschool I loved playing the small demo of MegaMan 1 on SSBU for Wii U! Those Mega Man websites bring back some good memories. I use to play Xtreme a lot back in the day and I agree with everything you said. Xtreme 2 is a lot better in comparison so I recommend trying it if you get a chance. Keep up the great videos!

Xtreme and Xtreme 2 were my goto car trip games at one point. Those and MM4 GB. Xtreme 1 I'd say is much less memorable than its sequel!

After discovering this game (mostly through you and research), I honestly like the idea (which is currently my headcanon) that the X Challenges from the Legacy Collections are taking place inside the Mother Computer, I mean the X Challenge plot is generally similar to how the computer is used here along with the idea of someone resurrecting them taken from Xtreme 2, which honestly makes me wish that, if we ever happen to get remakes of the Xtreme games, they use the idea of the X Challenge being the Mother Computer being a connective tissue between them with the first game being implied that Berkana placed the "curse" on the twins in Xtreme 1 (i mean she straight up has attacks that influence what button you use gets locked out and she's basically a Reploid witch) while being watched over by Geemel & Zain (i mean, they have a "general" knight motif in their designs, although Geemel is more "ninja" than "knight") with their "promised freedom" goal being that they need to, at least start on, research into how the DNA Soul aspect works which would lead into Xtreme 2. Granted of course have a difference adjustment, like when you reach the boss room or wherever the branching paths start, whichever character you picked between X and Zero, the playable character fights one boss while the other character follows and fights the second boss in another room to give a sense of continuity instead of just "oh it's the same path but your only difference is the character your playing and some unique dialogue" which I get it, it saves time on resources, but it always feels confusing from a lore standpoint of "well, which events are the actual canon then, X's or Zero's?" Granted that's a nitpick I have with any "alternate character path mode" unless it's clearly stated or implied somewhere as "this plot is not canon." Also, I wish this aspect was kept going forwards for the Street Fighter moves, putting in a code or being available from a NG+ that let's you use the moves as a separate secret Special Weapon or it be part of the default moveset with no Special Weapon equipped (sort of like how you get the Saber in the X Challenge if you don't choose any Special Weapons), possibly combining both "versions" of each, full health or charged being insta-kills while you can use the versions presented here as standard fire (also add the Tatsu and X3 Beam Saber for Xtreme 2) Honestly if I was any good at it, I'd wanna make the Xtreme games into mods for X2 & 3

Normal mode gives you gives the four boss from x2 . The n extreme mode has you fight all 8 mavericks.

It’s extremely cheap and I think it’s the most aged game in the franchise. I find that extremely baffling since, while it is the first handheld Mega Man game, it came out the same year as Mega Man 4, which set the bar on the performance of 8 bit Mega Man. Dr. Wily’s Revenge is my second least favorite game in the series, only behind X6.

X6 is my least favorite video game of all time for obvious reasons. And my second least favorite is Sonic Forces. That’s mainly because of the classic stages, and the story could’ve been great, but is now only a millimeter better than Cars 2. So I guess you can call DWR my third least favorite.
