Waiting for the Zach Snyder cut of the podcast that has everyone say the F-bomb in the first 5 minutes of the show. And I agree with Derrick about this whole "pulling the rug from under you" on Spiderman. It reminded me of Halo ODST. Everyone thought it looked so cool and it had fun city hubworld with some exploring but the game was over in like 2 hours. It just reminded me of going to game stores to trade it in and looking slightly to the left and the wall is COVERED in ODST cases! It was like the most traded in game of the 360/ps3 generation.

I feel like the instant they put out a CGI trailer for Cyberpunk back in 2012, they put a timer above their heads as far as people's expectations for when it should come out. I still have no clue why they announced that game so early without even having a prototype.

all that abusive labor forced on devs for this cursed tower of babel that all the Real Gamers(tm) put their hopes and dreams in, and it turned out like it did. in a just world it would honestly be illegal to sell a game bigger then 1 GB in download from an ununionized team.
@sunburst88104 жыл бұрын
@@take5transfat Every job has its rough times. Game developers have it pretty god damn good. They sit in a cushy office all day with catered food, air conditioning etc. For every game dev whining about 60 hour weeks, theres ten construction workers in the freezing cold and rain for the 10th hour today.
@take5transfat4 жыл бұрын
@@sunburst8810 ur comparison doesn’t work. it rlly don’t. nobody should be working 10 hours a day, and nobody should be working 60 hours a week, no matter what shitty cafeteria food they get or not. maybe consider that both of these kind of workers are both working class and have a common interest and enemy in mind?
@LetsGoGetThem4 жыл бұрын
@beep If a worker wants to work overtime to crunch since even in America any work day exceeds 40 hours a week is legally considered overtime, esp in Europe, then that should be up to them. I get the idea of compelled work, but I also get that individuals also tend to have varying views on how much time they want to invest in a project and that shouldn't be barred either. You could argue this leads to misuse, but I would also argue the effect of forcing a worker to not be able to work on something they're passionate about for overpay is also intruding on their individual rights to choose where to spend their labor. A balance of leaving it up to the worker but alleviating pressure is preferrable IMO. Looking at your sub box, you're obviously radleft, so let me be the one to tell you that not all workers consider project leaders and bosses to be "their enemy", they consider perhaps conditions to be bad and, newsflash, so does a lot of bosses who knows that the best and most productive atmosphere for the best product is a comfortable environment. However conditions are often out of the hands of anyone to control, in this instance as OP pointed out, the hype train caused by a foolish release of a CG trailer years ago. The work culture at least where I live is actually quite unionized but I still have crunch time, like you would with any job no matter how unionized. The unions work together with the bosses in a cooperative atmosphere rather than a strictly antagonistic one which doesn't lead anywhere unless it's strictly necessary. Most disputes are solved amicably as partners, not "enemies" of the "working class".
@take5transfat4 жыл бұрын
@@LetsGoGetThem literally no worker wants to do crunch time. just fucking read any expose on the conditions at cdpr, the devs will tell u that straight up. esp if all it does is end up with a game like this at this state. also, maybe those unions should realize their power as the group of those who really run the economy and keep everyone alive. they are quite lucky to not be absolutely mostly gutted of existence like the US for sure

The whole discussion about Cyberpunk just reminds me of why I’m happy for the burgeoning indie game scene. The best gaming experiences I’ve had in the past year have all been from small teams and have been so gameplay-focused. No state-of-the-art graphics, no celebrity voice actors, no season passes, just novel, well-polished gameplay and solid aesthetics to complement it. In an era where so many hugely-anticipated AAA titles end up hugely disappointing, Celeste, Hollow Knight, Undertale, and Slay the Spire have absolutely captivated me and reminded me why I love video games, and in all those cases I paid a fraction of what I would have paid for a AAA release.

Re: the Cyberpunk and platforms conversation you guys had as someone who works on AAA games I just wanted to give my two-cents (Disclaimer: I'm no expert on platform optimization or monetization): Platforms deviate so wildly in terms of capabilities, projects will often "target" one platform as a benchmark and then adjust values for other platforms as needed around that. Usually this comes in the form of graphical adjustments (i.e. lower aliasing on PS4 vs. PS5, lower texture resolution on XB1 vs. Series X) to accommodate hardware constraints. It's a lot of project bandwidth and threading the lines of what each platform can really do, and if your project isn't equipped or structured in such a way to take it into account it can be a very wonky process or look/act worse than intended. Couple this with a project trying to ship on Ps4, Ps5, Xbox1, Series X, Switch, Stadia, and PC and it's VERY easy to spread yourself thin trying to support all platforms, so it can be tricky to try and get parity across systems. Couple that with a long development cycle Cyberpunk had which included new platforms being worked on, announced and released and it doesn't surprise me there's such inconsistency between them. As to why they wouldn't just target one platform is basically what Derrick said - $$$. If you just launch on PS5 you're cutting off all the paying users on PS4 (very bad for a launch game especially since the userbase is largely divided). Even if the game is amazing on PS5, as a third-party dev it's a huge risk to make a really good PS5-only game and hope it's enough for PS4 players to look at and be willing to buy a PS5 just to play. On top of that you miss out on the already-at-capacity PS4 userbase which is so much larger than the PS5 early adopters. On the other hand if you build with only PS4 in mind there's less longevity/marketability there - PS5 users won't be rolling back to play it on the PS4 and there's a sentiment of wanting the "latest and greatest" product, not a last-gen title, so it's harder to market something which seems not caught up with the latest tech. I think companies without safety nets are always going to be risk-averse, and in CP2077's context it's might have actually been safer to release a buggy game on all platforms than a polished game on a single one. Anyway, just wanted to shad a bit of light on some of the behind-the-scenes stuff. I'm by no means an expert on these topics but it might help clarify what is already a baffling release for a lot of people. :P

I'm pretty happy with Cyberpunk on PC. 2080 Super and a 5-year-old i7. I haven't played any other games since it came out on the 9th. It's an open world RPG, not a sandbox game, so you don't really have a lot of activities, but what you can do is basically all authored with some kind of story. So and so pissed off this and them, so you gotta rescue them. Then you'll see dialogue and journal entries with extra context on the how and why. It's nice. The story is good. Teared up a couple times. There are a lot of bugs, but they're pretty much all minor and visual. The auto save thing isn't that bad. It autosaves like every minute, so if you get stuck with a bad one, just go back one more save. There are several autosave slots, and you can also quicksave (again, with multiple slots).
@ITNoetic4 жыл бұрын
Also, the reason why games launch in a shitty state is due to capitalism. If you didn't have to work for a living, projects like games would be done when they're done instead of done when they need to start bringing in revenue.

I'm some random schmuck with a high end PC and I've only had a couple of minor visual bugs (a floating phone, a guy walked through an elevator door once). Cyberpunk wasn't literally in 8 years of development, it got announced in 2012 but actual development started around 2016/2017 so like 3 years of development which is the norm in AAA game development but doesn't fit the scale the game was going for. The problem in the industry isn't the development side at the big studios, but the management of expectations (pre-orders as a practice should be stopped).
