I like Twin Peaks. I love the weird paranormal aspects about it, but I also love the corny soap opera stuff. The new season so far has been pretty one-sided with only focusing on the paranormal stuff, but it's not bad. They're setting up a lot of stuff, but it's hard to know if any of it is really going to pay off. The show seems to be about Cooper finding his way back to Twin Peaks, but it kind of feels like a gimmick because of the character he plays in the new season and how little progress is made every episode. I think it might start to wear a bit thin if it goes on for too long.
@metaleggman187 жыл бұрын

Derrick plays the giant AAA games that are advertised to him the hardest, then complains that they all play the same. if you really want something different, play more niche titles. whatever time period you think games were actually "original" in, I guarantee people back then complained about trends just like you do today
@kerokeropoonito7 жыл бұрын
judging from older podcasts, I think Derrick plays "niche games" the most out of the group. I think he just doesn't like all these big games made by all these big western companies, I get it cause I'm in the same position right now. They're for the most part pretty safe and uninteresting.
@korianderbadger7 жыл бұрын
faris b while I can see where he is coming from and more or less agree that modern AAA plays it very safe, I have to ask if things have really changed that much, and if 10-20-30 years ago, everyone wasn't just following some other trends. people have been saying that originality is gone for decades.
@CozyBanx7 жыл бұрын
Derrick is the one that always brings up smaller games, christ I think he was talking about stuff like Crusader Kings a couple podcasts ago. And he's right, these are the games pushed to the forefront for public acknowledgement and consumption and they are incredibly derivative, safe, and boring because over time it has become more profitable to keep making the same game as opposed to attempting to make something that sells because it is novel to the public.
@korianderbadger7 жыл бұрын
CozyBanx that's just the nature of that specific "market" of entertainment. Its the tragedy of the commons. Keep playing AAA titles and expecting them to magically be original come e3 is like watching superhero movies and expecting them to magically decide to be original. By buying their lazy products, you are incentivising laziness.
@korianderbadger7 жыл бұрын
And when he plays something "mainstream" instead he complains that they are all the same. Maybe, instead of coming back to a bad experience over and over, just don't bother? Why should anyone expect creativity out of the lowest common denominator?

Loce Derrick's criticisms of the film and videogame industries. The push for profit kills innovation.
@Fallenangel42757 жыл бұрын
Games have never been better and there's so many more high quality productions than there used to be like Witcher 3, which arguably is one of the best RPGs of all time, or Last Guardian, a game completely unique in its execution, there is absolutely nothing like it. Suggesting a reboot of Spore or No man's sky but GOOD, are not good ideas. Just sounds like Derrick has become cynical about modern videogames, which is his own problem.

The new Twin Peaks is excellent, in my opinion. As someone who loved the finale of the second season, I'm glad it picks up right where that one left off. That being said, I personally think Rocco is too harsh when talking about the second season. Sure, it loses focus and some of the subplots go absolutely nowhere (James and Donna. UGH.), but a lot of the characters go through some really great transformations (Ben Horne

26:20 I think Derek is pretty much on it when it comes to unimaginative superhero villains but I'd argue there was a small (albeit not very focused) moment after WW and Ares face off where the german soldiers and english soldiers are peaceful and not trying to kill each other. I could be remembering this wrong but there was a LITTLE bit of that union between opposing factions at the end.

s/o to Shawn on the religion thing. s/o to Twin Peaks. Even if the second season of the original had moments of boring as hell interactions and failed themes, it's still bomb. Thst said the most important about Twin Peaks is that it's like a painting or a song, you don't have to understand it to enjoy it. s/o to Derrick on movies.The caliber needs to go up. There seems to be even a basic lack of passion for thoughtful cinematography. s/o to the ghost I saw for a few frames appearing at 22:34. most ppl wont be able to see it but its the 3rd time i saw it this year and it likes to stand behind rocco. s/o to fuck e3. s/o to Garrett.

Derrick, please... It's not 'the World' that's the problem, it's China. Every single action/superhero movie is made only to appeal to Chinese audience. Even with all the restrictions and the so-called "domestic movie protection period", China is the biggest source of income for Hollywood abroad. As sad as it is, all Chinese people want to see in movies is good action and special effects, something that's lacking in their own lame productions.

Shadowfox nope not really. Alan Wake is stylistically inspired by Twin Peaks and set in a similar world. It shares so little else. Twin Peaks is more about the characters and their development. Watch the first few of the new season and you'll know if you are interested. Weird art house murder mystery / psychotropic demon romp.
