I felt kinda bad for the flak Derrick was getting talking about Bill Nye's new show. But I really did give the new show a try and thought it was awful. The ironic thing is, I think that really supports Derrick's theory that when a show goes away for awhile and comes back, it loses that special something that once made it good. Even an infotainment show like Bill Nye.

Any time you change format can also affect the success of a revival. I look at Bill Nye and then I look at Bill Nye Saves the World and the title gives away the biggest flaw I think the show has; overconfidence. You can't have a politically fueled show and expect that acting smug towards either side, while remaining serious, to make people feel good about it. The Colbert Report is a good example of a politically fueled show that knew acting over-confident was always a joke, but still allowed them to provide information about current politics.

He's covered gender identity and sexual orientation. These have been some heated topics the past few years with gendered bathrooms and same-sex marriage. Take the following line from his show and let me know if he's being smug or not, "We are enlightened and forward-thinking, but not everyone sees it this way."

It definitely is smug, but I think there's a bit more to his general position that gives it credence. Specifically on the issues of same-sex marriage and transgenderism, I think it is enlightened and forward-thinking to support them, and that opposing them isn't just taking a different side to an issue, but causing harm to marginalized people. He may be smug but is he wrong?

It's not about the viewpoint that puts people like me off, it's that (while talking about a subjective topic) His delivery method appeals to one side rather than both. His original series was liked by everyone because his delivery didn't demean or prop up, at least without coming off jokingly. He isn't just debating/informing, he's recklessly showboating.

I'd go on a long tirade trying to convert Derreck regarding Prey but thatd be fruitless. I just hope he pulls what he did with Battlefront and give it a bit more time before trashing it so harshly. I mainly just liking seeing people I like enjoy stuff and I think hed really enjoy a lot of stuff in it. Then again, he liked Bill Nye's new show and disliked Twin Peaks so maybe I should just let it go. Not all my favorite people have to like my favorite things. :(

I absolutely love system shock and bioshock, but I agree with derrick that the game just didn't get me invested, and was too much fech-questing without enough development in between.

I think he only did that because it was a bethesda game. It's known that derrick loved fallout 3, and I respect him for that because I did as well. That being said, the main story is one of the weakest parts of the game. The point he made however, I think is sound. Even though the main story ends up being kind of garbage, you have to admit that the beginning segment of the game is engrossing and gets you interested in the game (at least on your first play through). As far as him liking Bill Nye, I chalk it up to member berries or nostalgia or something because the show makes me want to blow my own head off.

I totally agree with Rocco about Twin Peaks. Fire Walk with me is a good example. Lynch wants to do weird stuff and break form and for a lot of people that means betraying what Twin Peaks used to be. That's all I expect from this season so I'm cool with that but I bet this season is going to be disappointing for a lot of people. Great podcast!

Can't agree with Rocco and Derrick more about Alien Covenant. It honestly felt like Ridley Scott took the easy way out and shoe horned in stuff about Xenomorphs to appease the fans and everyone who hated Prometheus. In fact there are interviews about Covenant's original script being totally different, until they decided to try to avoid the backlash they got with the previous movie. And the climax of the movie was incredibly unexciting. But of course everyone I watched it with thought it was okay or good and I was the odd man out. This is what I get for being so critical. Sad day.

Rocco was fairly spot on. While the general reception has been a little more positive than Rocco seemed to think it would be, there's a lot of bullshit fanboy ism and "this isn't the real Twin Peaks" etc. I'll agree that the mood of the show is much different, and much closer to the movie than the show, but like Rocco said I believe the change is a good thing.

People complained about Prometheus, Alien Covenant is what you fuckers get. A sorta soft Alien reboot/ Prometheus sequal. Ridley Scott wanted to make Prometheus 2, which who the fuck knows what would've happened in that film. I'm with Rocco on this one. I expected zero Prometheus connection. The mythology is awesome, David is awesome, the ending was awesome. I felt I got my money's worth.

The problem that people have with Bill Nye is made up. People are very angry that he spoke about gender, some people calling him a sellout. I too am a huge fan of BN and im on the side of derrick. He choose to make a show that provides general knowledge on a lot of relevant and modern topics. He spoke about global warming, AI, Alternative medicine, GENDER; a lot of controversial things, yet I find this one gender episode is blown out of proportion.
